WRUP: Objective edition

This is a set of data stored in a computer that tells your computer to render pixels into letters, which in turn allows you to read these data as an article. Above this text is a different set of pixels forming a reproduction of a photograph of two elephant seals. Elephant seals are a type of aquatic mammal. They possess a set of visual characteristics that some human beings find pleasant and others do not.

The subject of this article is a statement of what the Massively staff members plan to play over the weekend. It is titled "WRUP" as a shortening of "what are you playing," intentionally misspelling the words "are" and "you" to the phonetically identical "R" and "U." Clicking the "Continue Reading" button below will allow you to continue reading. Comments may be left below the article by clicking the "Submit Comment" button. @ceruleangrey: I'm going to the Florida state fair this weekend, but I plan to get some gaming in. There's that game where you toss ping pong balls into cups to win fish, and the one where you hit a doohickey with a hammer real hard and prove how strong you are. Then there's the game where you avoid fried versions of food that should never be fried and dodge people openly sporting the Confederate flag and face waves of crushing crowds. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure why we're going to the fair, except that my wife wants to look at plants and I want to look at rabbits.

After that I'll definitely make time to pop into Guild Wars 2 and play some more in the Edge of the Mists because it's super fun and has rekindled my love of World vs. World. My favorite thing about it is being able to deny the opposing team kills by flinging myself off the side of the floating islands. Ha! Pyrrhic victories are the best victories!

@nbrianna: Guild Wars 2 and Skyrim for me. I'm predictable like that. In GW2, I'm playing my Necro and kicking butt. In Skyrim, I've just rolled a new magey-type to test out some spell mods.

@Eliot_Lefebvre: Bravely Default came out, and whilst I was purchasing that I managed to find a couple other little titles that I wanted, so it's time to get some quality time with my 3DS in a big way. (I do so love having titles just sitting there rather than having to sort through carts.) I am, of course, going to clock more time in on Final Fantasy XIV and WildStar's beta despite that. (I'm almost a master of Magic in addition to War; that'll be fun.)

@irljasmine: It'll be a pretty relaxing gaming weekend in my house, mostly some crafting in Final Fantasy XIV and a few Labyrinth of the Ancient runs. If I'm feeling wild and crazy, I'll take my 3DS with me and play Pokemon in the car between errands. Yay, adulthood!

Matt Daniel, Contributing Editor

@mvmatt: This weekend is going to be a relatively gaming-light one for me, thanks to homework and other school-centric events occupying much of it, but if/when I'm able to settle in for some quality gaming time, I intend to jump back into Final Fantasy XIV. I finally reached level 50 in the Pugilist class after abandoning Conjurer at level 47. Now I'm trying to debate whether I want to jump headlong into the endgame or maybe try my hand at leveling a Disciple of the Hand and/or Land. I'm leaning slightly toward the latter out of fear for the time investment that MMO endgames tend to require. Plus I'd like to be able to craft fancy things, so there's that. We'll see where that takes me.

@nonsensicles: You may have gathered from my article yesterday that I am totally done with The Elder Scrolls Online. You would be right. I'm leaning to Age of Conan for my column next week, so I'll probably be playing that. I may yet swerve for Fallen Earth, but that's looking like it'll be the week after. Other things on my plate are seasonal content in FFXIV (I know the Valentione's stuff is short, but I have alts who also need to finish the returned Lightning event) and leveling my electric archer mentored by Lex Luthor in DC Universe Online. My partner has decided to get back into DCUO, so I might be playing with her too.

Mike Foster, Contributing Editor

@MikedotFoster: I'm working my way through a more careful, lore-centric (yes, me, seriously) New Game+ Dark Souls playthrough. It's crazy how the story of that game is buried in nooks and crannies all over the world. I'll also be tagging in for some Dota 2 depending on the availability of my Steam buddies and hanging out with some real-life friends for board games.

MJ Guthrie, Contributing Editor

@MJ_Guthrie: Ten guesses where I will be -- and the first nine don't count! Yes, I will be whittling away at the landscape of EverQuest Next Landmark, hoarding resources for epic construction plans. I tried to hold off putting down a claim, but I ran past a sweet spot with lots of extra room on Serenity so I couldn't help myself. Join me on the east side of Cinder and we shall rule the alpha! Call it my weekend of EverQuest because I will also be advancing my new little Shadowknight in EverQuest for Choose my Adventure, and I might throw in a solo dungeon or two in EverQuest II. I do actually intend to also dive into The Secret World a bit this weekend, especially if the Flappy raid is live (and if not, I need more fragments anyways). Obviously, sleep is not a part of this weekend's plans.

Patrick Mackey, Columnist

@mackeypb: I'll be playing all those things I usually play (League of Legends and Age of Wushu) plus Guns of Icarus Online because ramming teammates with your airship in the middle of a tense battle is an important life skill. Also possibly Champions Online because I feel a bit nostalgic about that game. It's the best superhero MMO ever made, so it gets props for that at least even if it is pretty fundamentally flawed.

Richie Procopio, Contributing Editor

@RichieProcopio: This weekend I'll be playing a mix of Hearthstone, WildStar, and Minecraft. I'm still having a great time in the Hearthstone arena, and in WildStar I'm leveling up an Aurin Spellslinger. My sons and I are constructing a massive sandstone castle in Minecraft, and our favorite game is playing tag in its twisting halls. Of course, the words "tag you're it" are a bit painful, since we tag eachother with enchanted diamond swords!

At the start of every weekend, we catch up with the Massively staff members and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game -- and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!
