WRUP: Someone should make a Warcraft movie MMO

So there's this Warcraft movie that's getting made? And they showed off the logo and some props from it this week, and there's apparently going to be a big panel at SDCC where Legendary Pictures may or may not reveal some details about the movie. And so now I'm thinking about it, and I think we totally should make an MMO based on this Warcraft property, if the movie does well enough.

So this week, in addition to asking about what our friends are playing, I asked what they thought about this Warcraft movie and if it would make a good MMO.

Alex Ziebart (@AlexZiebart) If all goes well, I'm going to be doing more writing than playing this weekend. I conquered the first wing of Curse of Naxxramas and I think I'd like to take the weekend off from the Warlords beta for some personal projects. If I play anything at all, it'll probably be a run of Binding of Isaac when I need to let my brain chill out.

As for the Warcraft movie ... I think my excitement for it waned a couple years ago now. That doesn't mean I don't want to see it. I do! I totally do. We've just been waiting for details for so long that I really don't care about it until the thing releases and I can go watch it. Also, I suspect this whole Warlords of Draenor thing is happening to begin with because of the movie. Hey kids, did you like Warcraft? Do you need more Durotan in your life? Pick up Warlords of Draenor today!

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I'm going to be writing this weekend, and quietly, wistfully wishing that I were in San Diego, because Comic-Con is kind of a blast. Oh well! Also, hopefully checking out the rest of the beta content, if it opens up for the weekend.

Thoughts on the Warcraft movie -- I am weirded out by the logo, but it's mostly because I'm used to the particular font and style they've been using for Warcraft for ... well, twenty years now. It's very strange to see them use a different one. I'm sort of hoping they have some raw footage or a sample of the CGI or something, but I haven't got my hopes up too high. I think it would be weird to play an MMO based on the movie franchise of the movie of the MMO I'm already currently playing.

Dawn Moore (@dawnwow) I have a knee injury which is aggravated by sitting for long hours so I've had to take the month off from raiding. Getting my gaming fix through my 3DS at the moment by playing A Link Between Worlds.

I will definitely go to see the Warcraft film but I don't have high expectations for it after watching the movie panel at BlizzCon 2013. Duncan Jones is a talented director but I get the impression he's stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to script decisions. If the Warcraft film is half as good as Source Code or Moon, I'll be seriously impressed. Would I play the MMO? Hmm... I dunno. Would have to see how the end game looks.

Elizabeth Harper (@Faience) No playing this weekend - just running around SDCC!

Sarah Pine (@ilaniel) Not sure what I'll be playing this weekend. I've got the internet all set up at my new apartment but the equipment that makes up my desktop is still scattered on top of various boxes. I'd love to hop into WoW but it may have to wait until next week. Until then, I can play Words With Monsters on my Chromebook.

I don't really know what to make of the WoW movie just yet, to be honest. Not enough information. Would I play an MMO based on it? Aren't I kind of already? (But seriously, no, one MMO at a time is enough for me.)

The weekend is the perfect time to kick back, relax and enjoy some game time. Are you an achievement junkie? Can't get enough raiding? Rolling a new alt? Considering taking the leap into roleplaying? Whatever your favorite way to play

World of Warcraft, let us know in the comments what you're playing this weekend!
