Current State of Service:

Summary: Destiny servers experienced brief downtime over the weekend, but have otherwise been stable. A new in-game event has been added and high-level players are taking advantage of a loot exploit. Bungie has issued a patch to solve a problem with the Vault of Glass raid mission.

Destiny's overall service largely remained steady in its second week, though issues are cropping up in the newly released raid mission, the Vault of Glass. Servers briefly went down on Saturday, September 19, and players were unable to log in for a short time. Joystiq's Features Content Director Xav de Matos experienced intermittent connection issues late Saturday evening, possibly related to the server downtime. After playing on Sunday, Joystiq EIC Ludwig Kietzmann noticed some lost bounty progress when logging in today. Beyond these instances, Joystiq staff have no connection issues to report.

Bungie has released a new patch that corrects a problem with the Vault of Glass raid, in which some players near the end of the mission would be greeted with a black screen. Many players on Bungie's forums report that they received no rewards after finishing the mission. The patch to rectify the problem was released today, though it would appear that players who completed the raid prior to the patch still haven't received rewards for doing so, according to a forum post with over 100 replies. Bungie states in the patch notes that another glitch in the Vault of Glass, in which players who die at the end of the mission remain dead, will be addressed in a future patch.

Meanwhile, Destiny players (perhaps those without the XP or the gumption to tackle the Vault of Glass) have discovered an exploit that can be used to farm high-level items. The exploit involves shooting down infinitely respawning enemies in a specific cave in Old Russia. Finally, a new area of the Tower has been added, in which players can take on bounties for the Queen and earn new loot.
