The Great Race Clash

When you launch the game for the first time, you are greeted with a nice action-filled cut scene that shows a snippet of the Starcraft lore and history. Immediately you are brought to a screen with options to select which game mode you would like to play, campaign, co-op, multiplayer, or arcade. The most popular game mode is unranked 1v1 against a real person. You are then faced with the question of which race you want to play. At the back of your mind you remember something about a player named Terran King (a top tier professional gamer from South Korea that played exclusively terran). "If he chose terran, then it must be the best race to play," you assumed as you clicked the play button.

Quickly, you are presented a screen that may show the race of your opponent and their rank in the game. As luck will have it your opponent is a player with "only rank 8." Little did you know that it takes a bit of skill to master the game well enough to achieve rank 8. Soon after, the game loads in and you are presented with a Command Center structure unit (produces the terran workers called S.C.V.) and 6 S.C.V. units harvesting blue minerals (main currency of the game). You see that there is a map in the bottom left corner showing your positions and possible expansion points.

As you try to figure out what to build and what fighting units to get, your opponent sends in the all chat, "GLHF (Good Luck Have Fun)." You hope to have fun, but so far all you have done is set your workers to mine for minerals and start building supply depots. You remember watching professional game streamers in the past quickly max out the number of soldiers and worker units as soon as the game starts in order to get a head start. Unfortunately, you did not know that the streamer was playing for fun on his alternate account. Thus, this strategy will cause you to lose spectacularly.

As the game progresses, you soon realize that having too many worker units are not useful, so you start training more soldiers and tanks in order to fend off a possible attack from your opponent. You keep on hearing the announcer say, "Not enough minerals! Additional supply depots required!" At first it is confusing, then you realize that you do not have enough minerals for the third tank and you have already reached your supply capacity.

You carry on building up your army and expanding to your second base, or even your third base. Out of the blue, your enemy comes in with his army, consisting of units significantly stronger than yours. He rushed in with everything he has. As soon as the fight starts, he realizes that you have virtually no units capable of fending him off. He sends, "GG (Good Game)," since he knew that the game will be over soon. You keep on hearing, "Your forces are under attack. Base is under attack," but you are unable to defend it since all the soldiers have already been killed.

Moments later, you have lost the game and returned to the home screen with the score board showing how you performed compared to your opponent. You stand up, and walk away swearing never to play the game again, but you still do since you have spent sixty dollars on the game.

You improve your skills over time, but there are still times when you once again lose the game, and your temper.
