It will now be harder to pretend you didn't know how many calories that Fettuccine Alfredo has before you ordered. MyFitnessPal quietly slipped the Restaurant Logging feature into its iOS app back in December, and it adds menu information from 500,000 restaurants in the US. Yes, that includes both big chains and single restos. TechCrunch says the company is working with Foursquare to gather data. For menus without calorie info, it uses data science to make an estimate, though the company is relying on user feedback to ensure accuracy.

In the company's announcement posted today, it wrote:

A restaurant menu item is logged every 3.2 seconds on our app. And yet, one of the biggest pain points for MyFitnessPal users has been making good decisions while eating out... We've heard the need for help loud and clear -- that's why we've created our new Restaurant Logging feature.

To access Restaurant Logging, simply select the Food tab and tap on the location icon next to the search bar to look for your restaurant of choice. Unfortunately, some users in the announcement's comments section are complaining that they can't see the location icon even if they have an iOS device in the US. If you've recently updated your app and still can't access the feature (and if you're an Android user), we're afraid you'll just have to wait a bit more.
