The 3 Ss for Writing Sexy Blog Posts That Convert

Like a sexy superstar wearing short ensemble, simple black Giuseppe Zanotti heels with stacks of Vita Fede bangles (think Jennifer Lopez at the MTV Award), your blog post needs to be "hot."

With 2 million blog posts written every day, according to MarketingProfs, and a petite 8 seconds attention span, you need to dress up your content with a stunning dress (epic words) so you get more eyeballs, shares, leads, and tons of buyers.

Because writing a blog post is mostly a creative art, there's no one formula for creating alluring content that guarantees conversion. However, as a veteran freelance writer and blogger, I've studied over fifty blog posts that transform readers into paying customers, generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue, and used my findings to get great results.

Below are the three Ss. They will help you write sexy blog posts that convert.

  1. Structure

  2. Simplicity

  3. Style

Let's look at how to incorporate each of these factors in your next blog post.

1. Structure

This is how you organize your ideas. It's like your blog post's skeleton; it holds the flesh and blood of the post—data, facts, case studies, words, etc. Usually, blog posts are structured in outlines and subheads, which help present your core message in bits and make it easy for your readers to digest.
For example, Brian Clark's article: "2013: The Year of the Online Writer" is beautifully arranged in three main sections:

1. Introduction: Here, Brian introduced his core message – the value of both the content creators and their craft. "... But there's another thing Copyblogger has always been about ... it's the people who create the content," he says. "For the most part, especially for us, that means writers." Adding that, "content marketing isn't going away." Beautiful intro, isn't it?

2. Body: Here, he outlined and discussed three good reasons why, in his words, "the writer runs the Internet show." The reasons are:

  • Online marketing is driven by content

  • Google elevates the online writer

  • The writer as entreproducer

3. Conclusion: He wrapped up his message here by reiterating what he had stated earlier in the introduction – about the value of writers and the content they create. Take a look at how he brilliantly recaps it:

"Content makes the Internet work, but without the writers and other content creators, it wouldn't happen at all. Never forget that, and never underestimate how much you're worth in this brave new world of a content-driven, convergent medium.

As a writer, I've read this article again and again because it inspired me as it did thousands of my colleagues. It also made me buy Copyblogger's product, Authority, which the article introduced. Talk about conversion.

2. Simplicity

To be sexy is to be simple. In fashion, we have seen, time and again, how famous models, artistes, and celebs outshine the rest of us with their elegant but simple looks.

A simple red backless halter dress is always better than a thick, tight, multicolored outfit. An iPhone with a single button is sexier than a Smartphone with two or twenty-two. A simply written blog post that communicates a single idea is more effective than a 3,000-word post with fifty ideas.

So, how do you write a simple blog post that communicates a clear message? Apply these three tips:

1. Use three points to communicate your message. Research has shown that the number of items we can easily recall is three or four. No wonder Steve Jobs used three numbers in almost all his presentations. "Today, we're introducing three revolutionary products," Jobs said, during his introduction of the iPhone. "An iPod, a phone, and an Internet communications device." And it was memorable.

2. Use simple English. Nobody is interested in knowing your level of education or your sophistication in English grammar. Don't write "it is inconsequential" when you want to say "it is not important." Be simple.

3. Use short paragraphs. You can use long paragraphs when writing academic articles, but not blog posts. Users' attention span is minimal. In fact, most Internet users don't read; so you need to make your paragraphs short, sweet, and sexy to get visitors to read your blog post and signup to your newsletter.

3. Style
You might structure your article beautifully and manage to use simple words that make it easier for your readers to digest. But, do you know that it's not what you say that matters, but how you say it? That's style.

To write a unique content with a mesmerizing style, you need to harness three things:

1. Flow: Your writing has to have a great flow so that your reader will not only navigate your content with ease but also consumes your core message without difficulty. To achieve this, you need to use transition words (e.g. in addition, however, etc.) to connect your ideas. This helps the reader understand how each sentence relates to one another and make sense out of them all.

2. Voice: Great writing styles are clothed in gorgeous writing voices, unique tone that defines you, the writer, and makes you stand out from the crowd. The best way to allure readers with your voice is to be original. And to be original is to be yourself.

3. Purpose: What's the purpose of your blog post? Is it to educate, entertain, or trigger a sale? It has to have a purpose. Communicate it in your blog post.

Conclusion

These three Ss – structure, simplicity, and style – aren't a new science for converting a visitor into a customer. They're a simple, sexy writing art that charms and moves a reader to take your desired action.
