A winner, but it's a winner with reservations. If you're totally kosher with Mini DisplayPort, and you don't mind the omission of additional inputs, and you're confident the glossy panel won't turn you off, you'll be hard pressed to find a better LED-backlit screen.

There’s no denying that the 24-inch LED Cinema Display is an attractive, capable piece of technology. The new panel is simply beautiful, capable of high-quality images and almost mesmerizing color. True, the speakers lack finesse, but that’s no surprise for a monitor; they’re at least an improvement on those in the MacBook.

While performance is excellent, the Apple LED Cinema Display's one connection option paints it into a small corner that is welcoming only to newer MacBook owners.

The LED Cinema Display represents many firsts for Apple: the company’s first LED backlit stand-alone display, the first external display designed specifically for Apple laptops, and the first Apple monitor to sport the new Mini DisplayPort connection.

What it does, it does well, but it's also very niche. The future of Apple displays starts here, but it's of limited use at present.
