Motorola Pro+ 4G rides into Canada November 7th, will kick off shoes and stay a while
We knew it was planning to grace Europe and Asia with its presence this month, but now we're hearing the Motorola Pro+ 4G is ready to make its North American debut at Bell Canada. We're not seeing any large differences here compared to the overseas model, though the addition of "4G" to the title is an obvious exception. The device offers a 1GHz CPU, 512MB of RAM, Android 2.3, a 5MP camera, 3.1-inch VGA (640 x 480) display with Gorilla Glass, HSPA 14.4 (hence the "4G" name) and a lot of Enterprise-friendly security features. We know it'll be hitting shelves on November 7th, but no price has been announced so far. To find out the full shebang, head south for the press release. Update: We've confirmed with an inside source that it'll sell for $349.95, but there's no word on whether subsidies will apply for long-term contracts.
3LM resurfaces, still wants to make Android secure enough for the IT guys
Remember when Motorola bought 3LM, a startup dedicated to offering enterprise-class device management to Android users? After eight months of silence, there's finally some news about the company and its handset-agnostic solutions. It's called, erm, 3LM and you (yes, you) can begin the scintillating process of installing it on your servers and company-issued smartphones later this week. Administrators will get the power to encrypt data and removable storage on Android devices like the Motorola ET1, remotely install / uninstall / blacklist applications, connect to the devices over VPN and behave like the killjoys we all know and love admins to be. There's no word on how much this shebang will cost, but you'll find most of the other important facts in the press release, tucked after the break.
Motorola subsidiary 3LM to offer enterprise-class device management for Android; HTC, Sony Ericsson, others on board
Apple's been working hard to chip away at RIM's lead in the enterprise over the last couple years by beefing up iOS' IT policy management chops in ways that traditionally only BlackBerry (and the now-marginalized Windows Phone 6.5 / Windows Embedded Handheld platform) have excelled at, but Motorola -- a company that's got virtually 100 percent of its skin in the Android game -- would obviously like to see that change. To that end, it acquired a little company called 3LM (that's "Three Laws of Mobility") last year that's been working on an enterprise management platform for Android, and it appears they've pulled off a bit of a coup -- not only will its parent company be supporting it on devices starting in the second quarter of the year, but devices from competitors like HTC, Sharp, Sony Ericsson, and Pantech are on board, too. A standard software package for this sort of thing is just what IT bosses like to see -- and it could be Android's most dangerous strike yet on the enterprise side of the market.
