Sure, the Nikon D90 isn't going to be any huge surprise when it arrives at this point, but it looks like whatever ta-da moment Nikon had planned just got upstaged by USA Today, which is running its piece on the new cam just a little early, complete with quotes from Nikon's senior technical manager. Nothing we don't know about here: 12.1 megapixels, 3-inch Live View screen with HD video recording and a kit price of $1,299. Not bad -- and that HD video mode certainly sounds intriguing. At least detailed specs will still be a tiny surprise, eh?Update: Nikon press release makes it official. Read it here.

  • Nikon D90 now up for order at Circuit City

Nikon's still unofficial D90 DSLR may have been pulled from Target's website after making a brief appearance a few days ago, but it looks to be holding steady at Circuit City, where you can now get your pre-order in for the expected price of $1,299.99. As you can see above, the site is also listing the camera with a release date of September 5th, which is only a tad off the mark of some of our earlier tips. There's also no surprises with the specs, although the "real movie-like" video recording mode that piqued our interest yesterday is apparently now officially known simply as an "HD movie mode" -- a step backwards if you ask us.[Thanks, Chris]Update: Looks like the game is still afoot! Circuit City has pulled its page too.

  • Seemingly official Nikon D90 pics, specs surface

Nikon's much-anticipated D90 has been popping up all over the place lately, but it hasn't actually shown its face -- in any non-Photoshop fashion, that is. That now looks to have changed, however, as the all-but-official picture above (and a few more) recently made an appearance on Target's website only to be unceremoniously yanked, but not before being grabbed by a helpful member of the dpreview.com forums. Nikon Rumors also claims to have some "100% legit" specs for the camera, including word that it clocks in at 12.3 megapixels, and that it'll sport a 3-inch LCD, ISO 200 to 3,200, 11 AF points, and video recording with "real movie-like" quality. Be sure to head on past the break for another pic, and dig into the links below if you still want some more.[Via Neutral Day, Nikon Rumors, thanks to everyone who sent this in]

If there was any doubt that the Nikon D90 D-SLR was coming your way, and a Best Buy stock record wasn't enough after a Circuit City inventory screen didn't sway you, then perhaps a snapshot of the product UPC will convince you? This code showed up on UPC database last night and, well, let's just say that it's time to start saving your pennies for this $1300 wonder.UPDATE: Meanwhile, a UPC for the Canon EOS-9D also popped up on the site. UPC haters can (and should) move along, but the link is here. [Thanks, Scott F]

Well, you wouldn't expect Red to get the new D90 without Blue getting in on the action as well, would you? Yep, Best Buy has the same specs and pricing on Nikon's newest as Circuit City -- and a slightly more, uh, today stock system, from the looks of things. Better start shaking those cushions out for $1300 in change -- our tipster says this bad boy'll be in stock on September 7.[Thanks, Anonymous]

As Photokina looms large, D90 rumors have been in abundance -- with a varying range of legitimacy. This here Circuit City inventory screenshot, however, has a ring of truth to it, and even unveils a pricetag in the process: $1299.99. Not bad for rumored specs that include a 12 megapixel Live View sensor, video recording, HDMI out and GPS. The price also includes that new 18-105mm VR lens, but there's no more info to be had at the moment. A little help, Nikon? We won't tell a soul, we swear.

Man, all these old camera rumors are just seeping out of the woodwork ahead of Photokina next month -- now it's the Nikon D90 getting the zombie rumor treatment. At least we're getting specs this time around, and they're not bad at all: 12 megapixels, Live View, video mode (necessitating a built-in mic), HDMI out, optional GPS, and a new 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 VR lens. Sure, it's a worthy successor to the D80 -- but we'll believe it when we see it.P.S.- Yes, that's another old, probably Photoshopped image that's been floating around, so don't get crazy -- like we said, these rumors aren't exactly new.

We don't have much to go by, but the image above image might just be the Nikon D90, successor to the well-received D80 -- then again, it might be a photoshop, too. (The more we look at it, the more the area in/around the D90 badge looks pretty sloppy.) According to Nikon Rumors, it might be due as early as tomorrow; we'll let you know if the kit goes from rumor to reality.

  • Nikon D60 gets rumored, set to replace the D40x?

Ready for another go on the Nikon rumor carousel? Apparently, the mythical D60 could be next in line to replace the D40x (pictured), but of course, all of this should be taken with a copious amount of salt for the time being. Based on rumors suggesting that the D60 is coming next Spring (by the same fellow who called the D3, purportedly), combined with reports that the D40x is at the end of its own rope, we're left to believe that Nikon may be swapping the latter out and replacing it with the prior. Hit the links below for the beginning of what's sure to be a long road to denial / confirmation.[Via Photography Bay]Read - End of D40x production?Read - D60 on the horizon?

  • Telus releases Fastap-equipped D90 from ZTE

Digit Wireless' quirky Fastap text entry system doesn't have the biggest following in the world, but every once in a while, some random manufacturer will release a Fastap-equipped handset on some random carrier. Case in point: China's ZTE -- of all companies -- has hooked up with Telus up in Canada to release the rather nice looking D90 flip this week. Specs ain't shabby, either, with EV-DO, stereo Bluetooth, integrated GPS, multimedia support, and a 1.3 megapixel cam. Get it now for $80 CDN (about $76) on a 3-year contract.
