If you're a horror game enthusiast living in the United Kingdom, you may want to spend the next couple of months avoiding any circumstances that may frighten you. Warner Bros. just announced that FEAR 3 is set to launch in your territory on May 27, meaning you've only got a little over nine weeks to store up all of your body's natural terror juices before playing through FEAR 3's titularly appropriate, spooky campaign. Us Statesiders are also curious about how long we've got to prepare for all the phantasmagoria -- we've contacted Warner Bros. for an update on the game's North American release date.

It's always a good sign when a representative for a game developer who's leading you through a demo tells you, "No, that's not an in-house nickname -- that's what this game mode is actually called." The gametype in question is FEAR 3's "F***ing Run" (its actual moniker), a four-player cooperative mode that sends players down streets and alleys filled with enemies, whom they must mow down as they race from checkpoint to checkpoint. That would sound like a fairly uninspired experience, if it weren't for the gigantic, horrifying innovation Day 1 Studios has thrown in the mix: The Wall of Death. As the players shoot their way through the crowd, a towering black cloud pursues them, gobbling up any and all stragglers who rely on the safety of cover for too long. %Gallery-119108%

  • FEAR 3 behind-the-scenes shows where the spooky comes from

Why is FEAR 3 so damn scary? Well, the obvious answer is "because of all the blood and monsters and stuff," but the latest behind-the-scenes video shows that there's a little more to it than that. Well, a lot more to it than that, actually. Like, a whole universe of stuff to it than that.

  • Paxton Fettel playable in FEAR 3 single player, kind of a jerk

Paxton Fettel won't be reserved solely for co-op in FEAR 3, as a new trailer reveals he will also be playable in the solo campaign. Once a level is beaten with protagonist Point Man, it will then be playable by Fettel, who can use his powers to defeat enemies -- by which we mean make them explode.

Listen, FEAR 3 protagonist Point Man: we know that you're craving Funyuns more than you've ever craved anything in your life. However, we'd suggest staying away from the Alma-infested supermarket for a while -- based on the screens below, it doesn't look like the safest place to be.

We foresee one major problem with the co-op mode for F.E.A.R. 3, previewed in the video below: One of the characters looks way more fun to play than the other. Who would you like to be: the standard, cover-based first-person shooter guy? Or the telekinetic, intangible ghost-killer?

  • FEAR 3 Collector's Edition includes pregnant Alma figure, abject terror

The F.E.A.R. 3 "Collector's Edition" release will include a SteelBook case, an in-game gun and a comic or something -- those items aren't important. The real bonus is something more intangible: a lifetime of nightmares. See, the Collector's Edition also includes a pregnant Alma figurine, and of course it glows in the dark. The F.E.A.R. 3 YouTube channel shows the Collector's Edition listed for several European countries. (We've contacted Warner Bros. to find out if it's also headed to North America, though we're not sure we actually want to know.) There's a video of ... the thing after the break. Please, please don't watch it.

Looks like F.E.A.R. 3 needs a few more months of gestation. Previously announced for March 22, 2011, Joystiq has confirmed with a Warner Bros. representative that those looking for supernatural pregnancy scares will have to wait until May. So far, Best Buy is the only major retailer reflecting the change. We want to make sure we're prepared for those earth-shattering Alma contractions, but WBIE isn't currently sharing a more specific due date.

Let's see. Poorly lit hallways, bloody graffiti on the walls, an otherworldly red glow, dudes with guns, dilapidated playground, creepy little girl and the unfortunate fellow seen here. Yup, must be new F.E.A.R. 3 screens from Gamescom. Turn the lights off and check 'em out.%Gallery-99762%

Paranormal FPS sequel F.E.A.R. 3 had previously been set to scare on October 20, 2010, but now Warner Bros. Interactive has confirmed to Joystiq that the game will take on corporeal form sometime in 2011. No reason was given for the delay. Black Ops already spooking the competition?

Maintaining a healthy fraternal relationship is tricky, forcing you to wrestle with subjects like individuality, compromise, and, as illustrated by the FEAR 3 trailer below, whether you should shoot the enemy soldier your ghost-brother is currently possessing. Tough stuff.

The breadth of F.E.A.R. 3 trailers we've been subjected to thus far have been hit or miss. We say this because with this latest trailer, Warner Bros. Interactive seems to have finally divined a winning formula. The E3 trailer above is everything we'd hope for in a trailer: There's ample quantities of dudes getting shot in slow-mo, along with equal amounts of bad boy Paxton Fettel 'sploding chumps with his mind. What more could you want?

So it looks like the team at Warner Bros is sticking with the live-action ads for F.E.A.R. 3. Apparently it's just a thing it's doing, so you'd best get used to it. Anyway, the latest trailer for F.E.A.R.3 is all about telekinetic bad boy, Paxton Fettel. The actual gameplay segments of the trailer show off some of Fettel's abilities, including telepathic control of enemy soldiers. He can also lift soldiers in the air, making them easy targets for F.E.A.R.'s perennial protagonist, Point Man. He also glows a really pretty orange. After all, there's no reason to murder hapless goons without a little flair, is there?

Dear Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Look, we get what you're trying to do here with this F.E.A.R. 3 trailer, but you aren't getting the desired result. The live-action portions don't make the world more believable -- in fact, they do the complete opposite. It just comes off as hokey and low-budget. Did you really watch this before sending it out? Bush league, guys. The gameplay portions of the trailer, however, are more our speed. There's slow-mo gunplay, creepy monsters and plenty of that wonderful ragdoll physics we've grown to love. That's the winning formula! Please keep that in mind for next time. Sincerely,

You ever pass by an argumentative couple and think, man, some people just shouldn't have kids? Sure, that may be an overly judgmental conclusion, but, you know, maybe some people just shouldn't. Case in point: Freaky, telepathic demon women and their obsessed possessed partners. Of all the shouldn't-have-kids candidates, you'd think demon women would be at the top of the list. Alas, having already given birth to F.E.A.R. characters Point Man and Paxton Fettel, Alma is pregnant again and set to have her third child in F.E.A.R. 3. They say that the third time's the charm, but something tells us this kid doesn't have a bright future.

Hot on the heels of rumors of a new title in the first-person franchise, Warner Bros. has made F.E.A.R. 3 official. The shooter is scheduled to release this fall on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Freaky devil child Alma is back once again, along with "Point Man," the protagonist from the original F.E.A.R., and even the villainous Paxton Fettel. While the single-player campaign tasks players with controlling Point Man once again, a new "divergent co-op" mode allows a second player to take control of Fettel. The press release also notes that F.E.A.R. 3 will feature "an evolved cover system." F.E.A.R. 3 is being developed by Day 1 Studios, the developer behind the console ports of the original F.E.A.R. as well as the more recent Fracture. Warner Bros. has also enlisted the help of horror director John Carpenter and writer Steve Niles (30 Days of Night). Niles co-wrote the script for the game, while Carpenter "provided his expertise in crafting the in-game cinematics." And yes, it's been confirmed that the game's logo is, in fact, F.3.A.R., officially opening the door for its inevitable sequel: F.E.4.R.

Here we are, September 18, and the Fracture demo promised by LucasArts has landed on Xbox Live Marketplace. Weighing in at 772MB, the demo allows players to sample a section of Fracture's single player campaign. Using the game's terrain deformation system, players can try their hand at creating and destroying the landscape using a variety of weapons. Here's hoping that creating hills, holes, craters and spires is enough to keep things interesting. If you've been anxious to try out Fracture's much vaunted terrain deformation, give it a go.

LucasArts has announced that an earth-shattering demo of Fracture is scheduled to crack up the Xbox Live Marketplace on Thursday, September 18. If you need a little help digging the name Fracture from your mind, it's a third person shooter with the central mechanic of land deformation, which the devlopers have cleverly dubbed Terrain Deformation. Players can build their own cover or, conversely, pull the land out from under the feet of approaching enemies. Land deformation can also be used for other things, such as accessing otherwise unreachable areas (think of it like a dirt elevator). For those who enjoy the demo, Fracture will be hitting retail on October 7 in North America and October 10 in Euorpe. Hoping to shatter our notions of shooters and the rigid environments they take place in, LucasArts' Fracture is set to debut in demo form via the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network on Thursday, September 18th. If you recall (and let's face it, you probably don't), Fracture's biggest back-of-the-box bullet point is "Terrain Deformation," which allows players to reshape the landscape in the midst of frantic combat. The interactive teaser is an opportunity to "create cover, solve puzzles and revolutionize battlefield tactics," says LucasArts, shortly before reminding us that Fracture will dash onto the retail stage and break its metaphorical leg on October 7th in North America, and October 10th in Europe. Let's hope big "L" steps up the marketing campaign just a tad before then.%Gallery-2929%

  • Fracture gets October release, new site, new trailer

Gamers looking out for Fracture might take interest in the game's newly redesigned and relaunched website. Fracture was announced around this time last year, and it looks like the game is well on its way to release this October 2008 according to the new website. With the new site in place, a release for October, and a demo hitting the PSN a month or two before the scheduled release, then it seems we'll be hearing much more on this title in the months to come. It looks like this blogger was wrong when he said, in a previous Fracture post a few days ago, that Fracture news would again be sparse; this is most definitely a good thing that it won't. If you're interested in Fracture, make sure you check out the official website. But also, make sure you check out the new trailer after the break.[Via Joystiq]
