Gameloft is having a Twitter Advent event, with an e-chocolate based piece of information or free game every day up until December 24. The free games will be available globally (unless specified) for iOS and Android devices, with "a little bit more in the end." All you have to do is follow @Gameloft on Twitter to partake in the goodies. Yesterday's treat was Driver for free, today was a sneak peek at StarFront: Collision. Yeah, we're hoping for more stuff like the former too.

Creepy-crawlies form the theme of this week's Xbox Live Deal of the Week, with all the featured titles getting 50 percent off the asking price. There's quite a diversity of invertebrate offerings, including the turn-based mayhem of Worms 2: Armageddon, the strategic Band of Bugs, the fantastic platforming of Earthworm Jim HD and twitchy blasting in Centipede and Millipede. The last title is 200 MS points ($2.50), while the rest are 400 MSP ($5) each. The deals last until next Monday, December 6. Now, excuse us while we go look at adorable puppy videos for a little bit, because all this bug talk gave us the heebie-jeebies.

  • Windows Phone 7 review: Earthworm Jim HD

You'll want to like Earthworm Jim HD. The Windows Phone remake of the classic SNES-era platformer retains the same immature humor and charm as the original, but features updated graphics that make it look like an almost-modern game. With the addition of Xbox Live Achievements and an updated soundtrack, Earthworm Jim HD has almost everything going for it. Well, except the ability to play it. Like other poorly conceived first-generation touch-based phone games, Earthworm Jim HD uses a virtual D-Pad that, frankly, doesn't work. Add some poorly laid-out buttons (seriously -- can you even tell what these on-screen buttons refer to?), and you have a game that is a total mess. Considering the precision demanded of a game like Earthworm Jim, this game is simply unplayable. If you manage to get past the first level without smashing your phone apart, you deserve an Achievement. PS3 owners who've been jealous of nearly every other platform's chance to get their hands on the unbridled power of "puh-laaazmuh" will be pleased to learn Gameloft's HD remake of Earthworm Jim, appropriately titled Earthworm Jim HD, will hit the PlayStation Store next Tuesday, August 3. So, what bonus features has Gameloft injected into this version of the game as an apology for its tardiness? Well, it's available for $9.99, which is ... the exact same price as the Xbox 360 version. However, you don't have to do any conversions to arbitrary "Microbucks" -- it's just ten dollars, plain and simple. That's what the PS3 version offers: Convenience.

It's a great day for people who love old, weird platformers (and who doesn't?) with the European PSN release of Earthworm Jim HD and the PSOne version of Rayman 2: The Great Escape. Looking for something a little more introspective? Why not enjoy the demo for Flower, or download a few extra courses for Tiger Woods 11? Looking for something action-packed and introspective? How about a nice game of PSOne Pong? Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

First, yes, there is another game out this week. That game is NeoGeo Battle Coliseum, an SNK fighting game. But enough about that, because Earthworm Jim HD is upon us. It is, by and large, Earthworm Jim, which should make old school fans happy, and undoubtedly delight the uninitiated. Check out the latest XBLA in Brief and see what the fuss is about. Major Nelson has spilled all of the proverbial beans on next week's XBL content and deals, and it looks like the perfect time to catch up on some games you might have missed. Leading the pack is Earthworm Jim HD, the long-awaited re-release of the only game in memory that lets you launch cows for fun and profit. It'll be out on Wednesday, June 9, for 800 ($10). Red Faction Guerrilla and Need for Speed Undercover will be released for Games on Demand, and a demo for LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 will be out on Monday, June 7. The deals are excellent as well -- Worms 2: Armageddon, Duke Nukem 3D and Peggle (yes!) will all be on sale next week for 400 ($5), and you'll be able to get FPSes Serious Sam HD, Call of Duty Classic and Battlefield 1943 for just 800 ($10).

  • Earthworm Jim HD trailer wriggles out

So there's a trailer out for Earthworm Jim HD. Don't worry, it looks just fine. Gameloft was even kind enough to toss in some footage of the game's new co-op levels. Heck, we even get to see some entirely new single-player levels, replete with jet-packing grandmas and ... keyboard cat. That's all well and good, but what is up with Jim's voice? Maybe it's just the difference between old, muffled 16-bit samples and the modern sound clarity we enjoy today, but something seems off. Like "someone just grabbed the janitor and told him to say 'groovy' into a microphone" off. Come on, Gameloft. Surely someone over there has Tommy Tallarico's number*. *Or Dan Castellaneta's.

  • Earthworm Jim HD trailer introduces snazzy t-shirts

Rather than posit that, yes, we are obviously the biggest non-arthropod invertebrate fans out there, we'll just point out how neat we think these "I love Jim" shirts are. They can be found, appropriately, in the latest trailer for upcoming digitally distributed HD re-release Earthworm Jim HD. We could use a bit more video from the gameplay department, sure, but what we see looks as good (if not better) than what we last saw last September in screenshots. The video also introduces a contest for fans of the series that sees five winners being flown to NY to Gameloft's studio for an early chance to check out EJHD on Xbox Live Arcade this May. To enter, interested parties should head over to the Gameloft Facebook page and sign up, write a 500 character or less message on "Jim's wall" explaining your "most memorable moment playing Earthworm Jim" (like that time your brother Charlie slipped a sleeping pill into your chocolate milk so he could play it uninterrupted for four hours straight), and voila ici! The directions also note that the entry period ends on May 2, so we'd suggest you get to it -- right after you check out the trailer we've dropped below the fold. [Thanks, Gavin Burbidge]
