  • Defender of Law raises slight objections

It's a testament to just how good the Ace Attorney series is when we're considering playing something that looks -- well, meh, to put it bluntly -- in the hopes that we'll be able to experience something even somewhat similar. Yet, without the charm of characters like Phoenix Wright, not to mention a much cheesier-looking objection screen, is there really a point? In case you're wondering what we're rambling on about, Portuguese developer GAMEINVEST is releasing an attorney adventure game this summer titled Defenders of Law, Inc: Crime in Willburg. Like the Ace Attorney games, you'll be finding clues and gathering evidence to help you solve a murder mystery, just to prove your client innocent. What intrigues us is that there will be 25 different scenarios, and you can choose from five different attorneys to play as, too. If this game does turn out to be good, at least it will be a lot of good. On the other hand, if it turns out to be bad ... well, we're sure you get the gist. %Gallery-28336%

  • More like Defenders of LOL

Gameinvest's Defenders of Law, Inc.: Crime in Willburg looks a bit ... familiar. We can't quite place it, but we're looking at this anime-style adventure game starring defense attorneys, and we have this vague feeling that we've seen something like this in the past. In Defenders of Law for PC, Wii, and DS, players will control one of five lawyers who must investigate crime scenes and interview witnesses in an effort to find evidence to clear their clients. Where it diverges from other lawyer games is in the courtroom, where evidence takes the form of a deck of playing cards and the defense must play cards with the prosecution to determine the fate of the defendant. Finally, a time-management style of game that doesn't revolve around the culinary arts. Developers Gameinvest have created Sarah's Emergency Room and are attempting to move it onto the PlayStation Network, among other places, boasting that the game "revives the time management genre with fun, challenging levels and a frenetic pace with simulation management skills." We'll just see about that. The game is just what it sounds like -- you're a poor college student and you've landed a gig as a nurse. Take care of every patient as they come into the hospital with the correct tools and such. It's most likely Diner Dash with less food and more needles. Gameinvest is seeking a publisher and distributor, so when they find one, expect more details to emerge.

Portugal probably doesn't spring to mind as a hotbed of video game development, but the strangely named GameInvest is based in beautiful Lisbon and its first title, Sarah's Emergency Room, "revives the time management genre with fun, challenging levels and a frenetic pace with simulation management skills." The game is being developed for the Nintendo DS, Wii, PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and PC platforms and allows you to assume the role of a graduate nursing student named Sarah as she moves from California to manage a busy emergency room in Arkansas. There "she discovers that managing an emergency room is a bit harder than she expected." Nothing like gender stereotyping with a female nurse who thinks life is hard. What's next, Sarah's Lunch Rush Hour where she runs coffee and waffles?

The artificially-generated virtual Toy Shop, that is, not one of the thousands of toy shops around the world that already carry the DS. Uh, in a game. In other, clearer words, Majesco has announced a new DS game called Toy Shop for an April release, developed by Gameinvest. The game is a business simulation in which players, as Mel and Mark, inheritors of their grandfather's toy shop, do their best to make sure they don't ruin the family business. The player is in charge of making toys (via minigames), setting prices, monitoring customer satisfaction, and maintaining the appearance and layout of the store. The game will allow the player to choose the level of interaction, from simply making toys all the way up to micromanagement of the store. We're all about making toys on the DS, but we aren't sure about the whole dealing-with-people aspect. Luckily it sounds like we'll be able to enjoy the toymaking part and ignore the human interactions, just like in real life. We have the first screens of Toy Shop available in our gallery.%Gallery-14107%[Via GamesPress]
