If Let's Pilates is as good as Let's Yoga, then it's a real steal at Amazon today at under $15. Looking for something a little less active? No problem -- tons of games are on sale, and accessories, too. We're not guaranteeing they're all great, but they do have one thing in common: they're cheap as hell. Let's Pilates -- $14.28 Magical Starsign -- $14.18 Warhammer 40k: Squad Command -- $9.45 Avatar: Burning Earth -- $9.45 Brain Boost: Gamma Wave -- $9.45 The Golden Compass -- $9.45 Interactive Storybook DS -- $9.45 Elements of Destruction -- $9.45

As you probably already know if you've paid even a modicum of attention to the mainstream media recently, Phillip Pullman's book The Golden Compass totally killed God. But did you know it also did something even more difficult? Did you know it broke Warren Spector's heart? It's true! The respected developer talked about the book (one of his favorites) and the ensuing movie on his personal blog, saying "I really wanted to make the game, long before the film came out, but that's another story..." Instead of whatever Warren Spector would have done with the franchise, we're left with a 44% average offering. ... Hmm. Maybe The Golden Compass broke our hearts.

Wow, another practically barren week for Xbox 360 releases. This week actually doubles last week's total, with two games shipping to retailers. The first is Dance Dance Revolution Universe 2 (say that three times fast). We're guessing that the game involves dancing. The second release is the game adaptation of the film The Golden Compass, which itself is based on a book. Given its movie tie-in nature, we're not exactly expecting to be bowled over. That said, the game was developed by Shiny, so maybe there's some hope for redemption. For now, we'll just be mashing F5 over at Metacritic.[Via Joystiq]

Fans of rhythm and fighting (righting?) might want to cast their eyes toward the release of Draglade this week, but the real excitement (at least, to us) is everything releasing outside the U.S. Well, maybe not everything, but there are certainly some interesting titles to consider, including Arkanoid in Japan and Myst in Europe. Steam is the agoraphobic gamer's best friend: all the joy of video games, none of the hassle of venturing "outside" with "people" to acquire them. So it's with these folks in mind that we deliver the latest news from Valve's land of digital distribution: Sega is beefing up their offerings on Steam – currently limited to Medieval II and Rome: Total War – beginning with Sega Rally Revo and Sega Rally (both available now) to be followed with the rather high profile RTS Universe at War as well as the movie tie-in The Golden Compass next month. There's also some good news for our European friends: those previously available Sega titles are now also available in "Europe and most of the world." Oh, and you can look forward to Sega's Worldwide Soccer Manager and Futbol [sic] Manager if that sorta thing interests you. We'll probably stick with the alien invasion one.

Fans of book to movie to game adaptations, are you going to wet your pants when you hear this news! Sega has let everyone know that they are releasing a game based on The Golden Compass film adaptation. The game is being developed by Shiny Entertainment (who are also working on the Earthworm Jim PSP title) and will feature the likenesses of the film's cast. You'll play as Lyra and her animal friends Pan and lorek Byrnison. The gameplay consists of using special items and sneakiness when playing Lyra and more head-on physical attacks with lorek. The game will span 13 environments based on areas from the movie as well as some areas that aren't featured in the film. I really have no idea what to expect of this title, but I used to love Shiny's games back in the day, so I can only hope this and Earthworm Jim are good fun. We'll find out for sure when The Golden Compass game is released this fall. [Via Gamespot ]
