WebOS hopefuls -- especially owners of a Palm Pre, Pixi or their Plus variants -- you there? HP's TouchPad launch is a few days away, and the company's seeking to entice loyalists with a $50 mail-in-rebate on the new slate in the US and Canada. You've got until July 31st to make good on the deal, and all it'll take is proof that you own one of the aforesaid phones. Still need help deciding? Dying to get your hands on HP's TouchPad before it's available on July 1st? According to Pre Central, a visit to either Best Buy or Walmart may afford you the opportunity. During the past few days, the stores have apparently begun quietly displaying demo-loaded versions of the slate. The device went up for pre-order about a week ago, but for webOS hopefuls still contemplating whether to take the Palm-rooted plunge, a pre-release impression may not be a bad grab between socks and motor oil. HP demos Citrix running on Touchpad, tries to make webOS corporation-friendly (video)
Lest you thought HP's Windows 7 slate was for large businesses and its upcoming webOS ones were reserved for consumers, not so fast. In a video (embedded after the break for your viewing pleasure), HP touts Citrix running on its forthcoming Touchpad to show it can play nice with enterprises' IT departments, too. As with Chrome OS, Citrix Receiver runs inside the browser, letting people choose the desktop apps they want. Both platforms, it seems, are capable of running computer-aided design applications in the cloud, with HP showing a 3D model in AutoCAD eDrawings Viewer. The frame rate isn't as fluid as HP would have you believe, but getting started appears idiot-proof, thanks to some large, tap-able icons. In any case, with 80 percent of the Fortune 100 already deploying the iPad, it's wise of HP to woo corporate customers with webOS. Isn't that right, Microsoft?
HP TM2-1070US tablet details leaked, is temporarily out of stock
Wondering about HP's TM2 tablet we heard about back in September? Read on and sate thy curiosity, as eCost seems to have updated their database a bit early, spoiling HP's fun and, if this is accurate, confirming the detailed specs of the TM2-1070US. It's packing a 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo processor behind a 12.1-inch multitouch screen, 4500MHD integrated graphics, 4GB of DDR3 memory, a 320GB disk, and even a fingerprint scanner, all in an aluminum case that's been given the "factory custom" treatment with some laser etching. It's listed next to a $1,099 price, which seems fair enough, though the site still won't let you order one at this point. We're guessing this one will stay "temporarily out of stock" until HP gets the druthers to make it official. That should be soon enough. [Thanks, Liam]
