Sprint invites Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 and Inspiron 11z into the dual-mode 3G / WiMAX league
It's been a good long while since a Dell Mini 10 with WiMAX crossed the FCC, but it's finally headed to Sprint next month, and its big brother the 11.6-inch Dell Inspiron 11z is along for the ride as well. Both sport Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 chips to serve up Sprint 4G and 802.11n WiFi, plus EV-DO Rev. A for 3G speeds on an unspecified secondary card of some sort. The Mini 10's mostly your standard 10-inch Atom N450 netbook, but we're happy to say this one comes with a six-cell battery, and the Inspiron 11z got a modern 1.2GHz Core i3-330UM processor under the hood, which should contribute favorably to both longevity and speed. The Mini 10 is free on two-year contract, while the 11z will set you back $150; find both at Sprint stores starting November 14th. PR after the break.
Dell and AMD get together for new Inspiron 1501 laptop
As expected, Dell and AMD are busting out a cheap-as-free 15-incher this month -- and today looks to be the day. The new Inspiron 1501 sports a 15.4-inch WXGA display (presumably 1,280 x 800), and the base model sports a 1.6GHz AMD Sempron 3500+ processor, 512MB of RAM, a 60GB HDD, CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive, ATI Radeon Xpress1150 256MB integrated graphics, a 6-cell lithium ion battery and 802.11g Dell WiFi. Of course, it's the pricetag we're all here for, and Dell doesn't disappoint: the 1501 rocks a $549 starting pricetag. If you want a bit more power, you can spring for the $859 model which sports a Turion 64 processor, 1GB of RAM and other spec bumps, or one of the plentiful configurations in between. Yeah, we're a bit bummed that Dell couldn't quite manage to get one of these under $500, but the Inspiron 1501 still shouldn't disappoint buyers on a budget this holiday season who can't quite afford or have no need for Intel power in their laptop.[Thanks, NateMan99]
Dell Inspiron E1505 reviewed
If you've been looking to go Core Duo on the cheap then wait no longer. PCMAG just busted out their Editor's Choice award on the 15.4-inch widescreen Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop. Good reason too, since their $999 test model shipped pre-loaded with XP Media Center Edition 2005 (TV tuner costs extra), sporting a 1.67GHz Intel Core Duo, 1GB DDR2 SDRAM, 80GB (5400rpm) disk, 802.11b/g, dual-layer DVD burner, and ATI Mobility Radion X1300 graphics -- not top of the line by any means, but oodles better than a lot of those integrated graphics craptops, and more likely to run Vista with some pep. PCMAG calls the E1505 "perfect" for people on a budget who "appreciate technology" which well, pretty much covers just about everyone we know. Knocks? Sure, the battery only managed about 3 hours and you have to enter a goofy Dell E-Value code "E1505PC" when ordering if you expect your kit to ring-up with that sub-grand price tag. Righteous pricing indeed for this full featured and powerful kit.
