If the first thought on your mind when you saw the pink Viewty was, "man, I wish that came in a darker shade of pink," have a gander at this puppy. LG's 5 megapixel touchscreen masterpiece has reemerged in yet another color -- a straight-up red this time around, where it'll see introduction in Ukraine later this month. That's great, LG, but let's not milk this one too much longer, pretty please? The way we see it, you've got more important phones to recolor these days.[Via phoneArena]

  • LG's Viewty KE990 is downgraded KU990, destined for China?

Remember the KU990 Viewty? Of course you do, well, meet its twin -- but decidedly duller -- sibling, the KE990 -- notice that E? That means EDGE. This handset apparently brings most or all of the same goods to the table as the KU990 did but lacks HSDPA and dumps tri-band for dual. So yeah, rather than stuffing this thing with another HSDPA band -- ah-frickin'-hem -- LG has chosen to head in another, less interesting direction by stripping it of some of what made it glorious in the first place. Of course, if rumors of it going to China prove true, we get that removing the 3G radio will improve battery life and shrink the price a bit for that market -- as not all markets want that 3G speed -- but this still hurts as we're way cooler with more, better, faster around here. Hopefully we'll hear a little something announced at CTIA but until then, we'll simply pretend none of this ever happened.

One 5 megapixel cameraphone not good enough for you? How about two? Three? Still not satisfied? Good, because if there's one thing in this crazy world that we can say for certain, it's that there's no such thing as "too many 5 megapixel phones." Today we take a look at LG's KU990 Viewty, a phone that builds in several ways on the KE850 Prada's lovely formula. Read on.Thanks to the good folks at Wireless Imports for the hookup!%Gallery-11843%

  • The Boy Genius Report: AT&T gets Vu in January, K850i in March

Field tidbits from Engadget's mobile insider, The Boy Genius.Remember way back when we caught wind that AT&T was eying Sony Ericsson's initial American 3G efforts -- the Z750 and K850 -- for release? Well, it's looking good! This slide, imploring employees to focus on "exclusives," shows us that AT&T has locked onto launching a version of the K850 as the "Ansel" (seriously?) come next March. Seems like an awfully long time to wait, but in the meantime, we can check out the MediaFLO-equipped LG Vu in January. Why must you make it so hard on us, LG -- Voyager or Vu? Decisions, decisions!

  • LG's KU990 "Viewty" now available in Europe

You've waited oh-so-patiently for LG's Viewty to land, and you've even tried to subdue your anxiety by combing over a glowing review, so feel free to cut loose now that the KU990 is finally available. Yep, starting today users can snatch up the mobile in "major European countries" for a still unannounced price, but we're willing to bet you'll pony up for all the joy that touchscreen, five-megapixel camera, DivX support, TV out and HSDPA will bring. Unfortunately, LG fails to mention any specific carriers in its release, but we'd assume Vodafone (and potentially Orange in the not-too-distant future) will be picking it up in their respective regions.UPDATE: A couple of folks in comments have mentioned that the Viewty is a go on O2.

  • LG's KU990 "Viewty" reviewed, loved

CNET UK's Andrew Lim had a bit of one on one time with LG's sexiest -- yeah, you know we're talking about the KU990 -- and rolled those thoughts into a fairly positive 4-page writeup. The 5 megapixel camera gets top marks -- compares well with Nokia N95, for example -- with a bevy of adjustable settings such as ISO, white balance, image quality, and so on. The high speed video recording can capture at 120 framer per second allows for fun slow motion effects and upload and download of said vids directly from Youtube. The Viewty (we're really having a tough time warming up to that name) also packs other goodies such as a slideshow viewer that shows the "flickable" images scattered on your screen and a web browser that supports full web page viewing a-la Microsoft DeepFish. Seems LG deserves a big sparkly unicorn sticker for this one, as long as the touch screen's quality overhauls its older sibling, the Prada, we're about sold.[Thanks, Leonardo G]

  • LG's KS20 and KU990 vs. the iPhone

The silent, yet eerily palpable rivalry betwixt LG and Apple continues, secretly, growing subtlety with every new phone release (as you can see in the Windows Mobile-based KS20). Or maybe these two companies just love this design -- certainly Nokia is fond of it. It's hard to say really, but what isn't hard to say is that these phones do look alike, and there's no way around it. Please forgive the German showgirl for the upside down iPhone handling -- they haven't had the fortune of holding them here. After the break, be sure and note the UI of LG's KU990 -- the company's other widescreen touch phone -- and its familiar look. One thing's for sure: they all smudge the same.

We wanted to get down and dirty with LG's other touchscreen phone -- the KU990 (AKA the Viewty) -- a 5.1-megapixel cameraphone that also does Flash, but the company's staff would barely even let us get close. It's true: the German showgirls and Japanese press handlers were less than forthcoming with the goods, but after a round of strong drinks and some serious sweet talking, we got to demo some of the phone's functions -- though there appeared to be a lot more lurking beneath the surface. Check the gallery for some "hands-on" action, and feel free to write letters suggesting LG's people to lighten up.%Gallery-6645%

  • LG's KU990 touchscreen "Viewty" is a 5 megapixel, HSDPA beauty

It's out. LG's newest heartthrob -- the KU990 -- is official and on the way to the UK (likely with Vodafone) this fall. The German IFA show at the end of the month will mark its coming out party seeing the KU990 dressed up in a 5.1 megapixel shooter with Schneider-Kreuznach lens, image stabilization (likely digital), auto focus, 120fps video, and ISO 800 sensitivity. Sure, the camera is nice and all, but this pup is packing a 3-inch, 240 x 400 touchscreen riding on 3G HSDPA data. Hoozah! With a European launch imminent (Sorry, no Stateside details), the wait for the iPhone is suddenly less of a burden, eh? [Via Akihabara News]

Every time we see this thing, we forget what the iPhone is, if but for just a moment. Between the integrated FM radio, HSDPA, stereo Bluetooth, microSD expansion, 3 inch touchscreen with the Prada's stellar interface, tight YouTube integration, and 5 megapixel cam with xenon flash, LG's upcoming KU990 looks fit to take on all challengers. It comes in at 103.5 x 54.4 x 14.8 millimeters, making it about a centimeter shorter, half a centimeter narrower, and 3 millimeters thicker than Apple's device. Still no word on when we might see this thing in our hands (or anyone's), but owing to the silkscreened Vodafone logo there, we can pretty much figure out at least one of the carriers planning on picking it up.

  • YouTube-enabled LG KU990 shows up online

It looks like LG is getting set to release a new Prada-esque keypad-less phone, with its hereto unheard of KU990 model recently landing in the hands of the folks at Clipset.net. Apparently, this is one of the forthcoming YouTube-enabled handsets recently mentioned by the company, meaning that it'll not only be able to play YouTube videos but let users submit videos to the site straight from the phone as well. Otherwise, the phone's big selling points are its ample 5-megapixel camera and HSDPA connectivity, not to mention its sizeable 3-inch touchscreen. Rounding out the specs, you'll get a built-in FM radio, MP3 player, microSD card slot, and an array of pre-loaded applications, including the Muvee video editing app. No word on pricing or availability, though it certainly doesn't seem like it's all that far off. Hit up the link below for more pics and a video showing off the phone from every angle.[Via SlashPhone]
