Captain America is feeling excited today! :) "Big announcement, guys! So excited! You excited?" Iron Man commented: "Look guys, I know we're getting a continuation to our Facebook game Marvel: Avengers Alliance, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. I mean, what's really new about this one?" Nick Fury commented: "This is Avengers Alliance Tactics. Like before, players will take on the role of a SHIELD agent who sends teams of heroes out to save the day in turn-based battles. However, this time the the map is grid-based, when before it was just teams of heroes on the left side of the screen battling enemies on the right. Now, positioning is a factor, and the 3D graphics mean the 20 heroes available at launch can be seen from more angles." Hawkeye commented: "As long as they get my good side!" Black Widow commented: "So where and when can we play it?" Nick Fury commented: "We're not sure when it'll be released worldwide, but it's coming to Canada first. They say we'll have it 'soon.'" Wolverine likes this. Spider-Man commented: "Hey guys, I know this might not be the best time to ask, but can I be an Avenger now?" Hulk poked Spider-Man. Spider-Man's bones are dust. Playdom has announced that Marvel: Avengers Alliance will be shutting down for good on April 20th, 2014. "Although it is a difficult decision to shut down a game," a note to the players states, "this decision will allow us to focus on building new, more engaging games." This shutdown will affect only the Playdom version of the game, not the Facebook version. Playdom says that it will offer no refunds or credits for "virtual goods, game currency or other items purchased" once the game stops being offered on Playdom's platform.

Two of Marvel's biggest summer films, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, will be coming to Facebook, iOS and Android in the form of extra content for Marvel: Avengers Alliance. MTV reports that the game, in which players fight teams of Marvel villains in turn-based battles, will feature Winter Solider missions that "run parallel" to the film's plot later this month. Details regarding the Guardians of the Galaxy content were not given, except that it would introduce the members of the team one at a time, instead of all at once. The Guardians movie doesn't hit theaters until August 1, so there's plenty of time for introductions. 2014 movie tie-ins aren't the only content planned for M:AA - Taskmaster will also be introduced as a playable character in an upcoming update. At this rate, we'll have every Marvel character in the game sometime shortly after the sun explodes. [Image: Marvel]

Disney begins its inevitable assault on Facebook through its subsidiary Marvel, with the upcoming Q1 release of Marvel: Avengers Alliance, a new game for the platform developed by Playdom. It's a "combat role playing game experience with dozens of familiar Marvel superheroes and villains to be collected," in which players can train their stable of Marvel superfolks to upgrade their abilities and stats. This, of course, means we can expect to see more Facebook games from both Disney and Marvel -- the floodgates have been thrown open (let's say by the Hulk, in the interest of following the theme). We're surprised that this hadn't already happened!%Gallery-143601%
