If you've got a Nokia handset enjoying life in its golden years, it's comforting to know that the mothership hasn't forgotten you -- at least, not completely. Owners of the original N95 -- like seriously original, N95-1 style -- are enjoying the spoils of a new firmware update, though "spoils" might be a bit of an exaggeration since the package is being described as "minor." Better than a slap in the face or getting run over by a dump truck, we suppose.[Via Symbian-Guru and Symbian-Freak]

Ah yes, there's nothing quite as capable of robbing us of an afternoon of work as a firmware update, is there? The joy of discovery, re-installing all your apps, contacts, and such is as painful as it is uniquely fun. Of course, you can skip all this if you're the proud owner of an American 3G N95, because your time hasn't come, yet. Crazyk, a forum user over Nokia Support Discussions mentions that boot time has been reduced in firmware 3.0.015 to 15 or 16 seconds, camera colors seem better, autorotate's a go, a new share online icon has appeared, and Maps 2.0's in there. Of course, make sure you back up your stuff before you fire up Nokia Software Update to begin this journey, just in case you bump into a problem on the way. Feel free to drop us a post and let us know how it goes.

It's not every day that a manufacturer makes a conscientious effort to keep an older product in feature lockstep with the new, so our hats (and hearts) go out to Nokia for this latest round of love. The original Nokia N95, the European N95-1, has started getting blessed with firmware v21, which brings it in line with the N95 8GB's recent update to offer Flash Lite 3, in-browser Flash, and a host of performance and stability improvements. It seems that folks are still having limited success getting the new update via Nokia's software update app, but it's starting to trickle out there. North American N95 owners, though -- well, as you can probably guess, you're left out in the cold for the time being.[Via Boy Genius Report and Nokia Users, thanks Jonathan]

US N95 users need not apply -- yet, anyway -- but owners of the original should high-tail it over to Nokia's software update site and get crackin' on this here download. Firmware version 20.0.015 brings a wealth of new features to a phone that still rests near the top of Nokia's lineup, including significantly improved memory management (especially important to the N95-1 which rocks half the RAM of the N95-3), a couple N-Gage demos with a link to download the full app when it's available, search integration from the home screen, improved camera performance, and the list goes on; in other words, this is an upgrade you definitely want. Any love for us poor, underappreciated Americans, Nokia?[Via All About Symbian]
