Samsung has been pretty tight-lipped about the inevitable successor to its popular P2 (or YP-P2) PMP, but the company has taken the wraps off of it in a big way today, with it not only announcing its new P3 handheld, but letting a few sites actually get their hands on it. As rumored way back in May, the device's touchscreen gets a haptic upgrade, but the size and resolution stay the same at 3-inches and 480 x 272. Otherwise, you can expect capacities ranging from 4GB to 32GB, built-in Bluetooth with A2DP support, an FM tuner, a mono speaker, support for all the usual audio and video formats and, of particular note, an all new interface complete with customizable widgets. No word on a price or launch date just yet, but Samsung will apparently have more to say about that when it gets even more official about the device at CES in January. Until then, you can hit up the links below for some more pics, including an ample supply of comparison shots.Read - Generation MP3Read - Le Journal du Geek

  • Samsung dreaming of YP-P3 with haptic support?

Not even a month after we asked you fine readers what you'd love to change about the YP-P2, in comes early word that a tweaked successor could be on the way. Granted, most everything here is lost in translation, but we're gathering that Samsung could be readying a touchscreen YP-P3 that would look awfully similar to the SCH-W420 mobile. Good thing, too, as that particular unit has haptic support (force feedback from touch panels, in a nutshell) already loaded in. So convenient, wouldn't you agree? Keep a loose eye out for this one to surface late this year.[Via PMPToday]

  • Could mystery handset on Sony Ericsson page be P3i?

We love when handsets pop up in places they aren't supposed to, and Sony Ericsson happens to have done just that with the handset outlined in red in the pic above. Nothing is known about the phone pictured -- or if it isn't just a placeholder or other error -- but some speculate that it may be the rumored P3i. While the image is a bit dodgy, it appears that it sports some type of joystick-like d-pad and seems thick enough to be a slider. We've absolutely no idea when or if this handset will be announced, but be sure we'll fill in the blanks as soon as we're able.

  • Nikon's P3 reviewed

It's not been long since Nikon announced their latest volley of (WiFi enabled) digital cameras, and we've been pretty curious to find out how the P3 in particular stack up to the competition. Digital Camera Review snagged one of those 8.1 megapixel, 3.5x optical zoom, 802.11b/g-equipped shooters to play around with, and they seemed to dig the camera in whole with its Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization and manual features, even despite its chunky size and drab aesthetics. The WiFi still isn't apparently anything to write home about -- and it won't be until your camera doesn't require a host computer to do things like move around photos (or post them on the Interwebs) -- but the P3 definitely seems to have the hobbyist-ready features and image quality to make up for the limited use wireless and its size.
