  • Rabbid fact #76 -- Bunnies look good in Spore

While Joystiq was spending a week trying to create cool and clever things with the Spore Creature Creator, other folks were up to some interesting projects as well. Take, for instance, this rabbid made by YouTuber judhudson.Sure, the little guy might look even more demented than your standard, already-crazying-looking rabbid, but it shares a pretty good resemblance. Between his appearance, the dancing, and the dubbed in screaming, he has "rabbid" written all over him.Apparently, people are making all kinds of neat things with Spore. Have you ran into any particularly good character remakes in your travels?[Via GoNintendo]

  • Ubisoft loves getting exclusive with the Wii

In an interview with Ubisoft UK's Managing Director, Rob Cooper, GamesIndustry unveiled some insight regarding Ubisoft's policy on Wii-exclusive titles. Many gamers have complained about the piles of shovelware and lousy ports while Wii Play and other mini-game compilations continue to dominate sales charts worldwide. His line of thinking makes sense. While it may be easy to port the latest rubbish from other consoles, Wii gamers are clearly buying original titles by the bucketload. Cooper explains that exclusive titles for the Wii will always get that extra bit of attention, and since gamers are already rocking out with casual party games, they will be looking for bigger games you can't find anywhere else. Okay, Ubisoft still likes to throw a few random games out there, but based on Cooper's interview, from a business perspective they know what will end up being the most popular.Need some examples? The Raving Rabbids series, No More Heroes and yes, even Red Steel are some of the successful names in Ubisoft's portfolio. As gamers, we already know the Wii is something different entirely, and it's good to see some positive reinforcement from the powerful players in the industry. For further Ubisoft shenanigans, check out the full interview.

It was only a few months ago that Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot was promising us all "Nintendo-like quality" games. Since then, the company has announced Raving Rabbids TV Party, Babies Party, Shaun White Snowboarding, and much, much less. It's a line-up that has generated only ripples of laughter on the internetz, rather than tremors of fear in Kyoto. The snickering is not limited to NeoGAF. Ubisoft's own forums have come under attack from those who are disillusioned by the company's planned Wii output, so much so that UK Forum Manager "Raide" recently had to ride to Ubi's defense. The gist of his argument seems to be: because the best-selling games on the Wii aren't necessarily the best games, it's actually okay for Ubisoft to release stuff that, well, doesn't have "Nintendo-like quality.""If you look at the most successful Wii games, they are not amazing new AAA games, they are predominantly family-orientated games/alternative games," explained Raide, adding that Ubisoft is pursuing the casual dollar because "parents who are buying a console for their children do not really care about Prince of Persia, Rainbow Six or Far Cry on the box."On one level, Raide's logic is fairly sound; after all, games targeted at the casual sector do sell well (particularly in the UK and Europe), and it's understandable that Ubisoft has shareholders to keep happy. But promising higher quality Wii games and singularly failing to deliver on that pledge? That's just weak. Hit the "Source" link below for Raide's full defense.%Gallery-23883%%Gallery-23972%[Via Kotaku]

We've got nothing better to do than watch video from Ubisoft's Ubidays presentation, and have a couple of brews! Don't talk about anything else -- we don't want to know! We're dedicated to our favorite Balance Board- and/or Wii Remote-based minigames! We get the feeling from the above trailer for Raving Rabbids TV Party, and especially from the on-stage demonstration (which can be found after the break), that Ubisoft is more than proud of their butt-based gameplay. They're thrilled to finally be able to design Rabbids minigames that are controlled by booty movement. It's kind of the whole theme of the presentation. If you're looking to get your posterior more involved in your gaming life, this is absolutely the game for you.%Gallery-23883%

Click to embiggen ... Daaaah! var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo/Raving_Rabbids_TV_Party_announced_uses_Wii_balance_board'; Those wascally wabbits are back. Ubisoft has announced Raving Rabbids TV Party, due out this holiday season for the Nintendo Wii and DS. Said the press release, "The Rabbids plan to invade televisions worldwide, providing players with a variety of games and comedic exploits spoofing TV shows, pop culture and even advertisements."As was hinted in a recent video (embedded after the break), TV Party will make use of the Wii balance board. Early screenshots indicate the balance board is not required for every game, but will involve sitting on the board and shaking your butt. Said CEO Yves Guillemot, "The inclusion of the Wii Balance Board into the game was a huge source of inspiration for our development team and I guarantee you will see the Wii Balance Board used in ways that will be surprisingly unexpected!" More details are to come at this year's E3.%Gallery-23881%

  • Raving Rabbids balancing out their wacky life [update 2]

[Update: Screens available in our gallery!]After solving a moon mystery, the more astute Fanboy readers noticed the inclusion of a rather understated header on the latest cover of Nintendo Power. The game formerly known as Raving Rabbids 3 will henceforth be known as Raving Rabbids TV Party, as if we needed a reminder to plug our Wii into the TV instead of some shrubbery out the back. Despite the Rabbids showing us how the Balance Board ought to be used, we couldn't confirm that the next addition to the series would go nuts with the whole leaning and weight-shifting thing. However, the teaser wasn't teasing and among TV Party's 65 mini-games, many (maybe even most) will use the Balance Board. If using Wii Fit was enough to make your friends laugh stupidly (they are right to do so), then getting down with these crazy critters is enough for them to consider finding new people to hang out with. %Gallery-23883%[Thanks, RingmasterJ5!]

In the above teaser video, which Gametrailers has labeled "Rayman Raving Rabbids 3," you'll note the appearance of one of Ubisoft's lovable and inherently demented hoppy things. While that is often amusing in its own right, this particular Rabbid appears to be figuring out how to properly operate a Wii Fit balance board. While his time with it ultimately results in weight gain, we get the feeling he's trying to tell us about some new use for the peripheral in his next mini-game miasma ...[Thanks, StarFoxA]

We love Michel Ancel's screaming balls of bunny - more so than the games they headline, in fact. Yes, we know ... they're back. Screams and everything, although thankfully this features a lot more belching than screaming. In fact, there isn't any screaming in this video, unless you count us at home watching it. It's a bit like Burnout meets belching, and it actually looks like fun. Yes, we said Raving Rabbids 2 looks like fun, you can shoot us later. But at least wait until the game comes out.

  • Ubisoft dates Haze, Splinter Cell, Raving Rabbids 2, more [update]

    06.19.2007

Ubisoft has revealed the release dates for all of its major 2007 titles, asking the majority of them to form a neat line in November and proceed to remove the contents of your wallet one by one. You're more than welcome to make a fuss about it, but having the sneaky men of Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell: Conviction within grasp of your neck renders such action unwise. A more notable entry in the release schedule (as posted by Eurogamer) is Free Radical's sci-political first-person shooter, Haze, previously described as "leading on PS3" in a display of timed exclusivity: Haze (PS3) -- 23 November Oh, you'll be wanting the release date for the other platforms as well: Haze (Xbox 360, PC) -- 30 November [Update: Oh dear, Ubisoft has removed the Xbox 360 and PC versions of Haze from the current release list. We're waiting to hear back from Ubisoft on the matter.] Other key titles dated after the break include Assassin's Creed, Dark Messiah: Elements, Rayman Raving Rabbids 2, Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway, and Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Ubisoft's Ubidays event in Paris spawned almost as many video trailers as it did announcements. Thanks to the wonders of embeddable streaming video, we're able to put them all in a single post for your viewing pleasure and/or displeasure, depending on the game. Naruto: Rise of a Ninja (Xbox 360) Loosely based on the 837,212 episodes of popular anime, Naruto, this cel-shaded action game seems to strongly encourage you to leap through trees, punch older men and generally behave like a ninja who's under the constant scrutiny of kids. No sudden decapitations like that other guy.

The second Rayman Raving Rabbids is in production, and GameTrailers has posted a series of in-game clips from Ubisoft's gaming event. The Rabbids trailer and these clips seem to downplay Rayman even more than the first game. (Here's hoping the shipping version has little to do with the appendage-free mascot. Let Rayman thrive in the platformers; he doesn't add much to these mini-game buffets.)See gameplay clips of bunnies spitting carrots, playing baseball, rodeo riding, and serving food after the break.

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Last week, following some hinting in the Xbox 360 version of Rayman Raving Rabbids, we found out that the Rabbids were returning to the Wii and DS. This week, following an announcement at the Ubidays conference, we find out that's all they're returning to. Too bad it's still just a bunch of minigames. In Rayman Raving Rabbids 2, the bunnies are out to rule our world. The Rabbids have set up an interdimensoinal gate in a shopping mall and are ready to take over the Earth. Rayman will stop them, blah, blah, blah -- just give us more bunnies screaming, "DAHHHHHHHHH!" There will be 60 minigames and there's sure to be more information at Min-E3 before the game's launch this fall. Now can we please, please, please get the Rabbids in a non-minigame setting? A classic platformer would do nicely -- or a Rabbid RTS. We're just looking forward to seeing more Rabbid commercials.

Those rabbids are coming back. NGamer magazine has learned from Ubisoft that they are currently working on a sequel to Rayman Raving Rabbids that will give background on their training for world domination. And lots of minigames, of course. As a game, Rayman Raving Rabbids was an entertaining though somewhat inconsistent collection of great (anything with Disco) and not-so-great (e.g., "Bunnies don't like open bathroom doors") minigames. As a character, however, the rabbids and their hilarious videos have touched us like no other adorable conquistadors ever have. We'll never forget their battle cry: gaaaaaaaahhhh! It's currently unknown whether Sony or Microsoft will see rabbid love, as the Nintendo-centric magazine only mentioned DS and Wii as consoles the game will appear on. A book in the Xbox 360 version's case hinted at a sequel as well, and we expect Ubisoft to ultimately release this on every platform available. No release date has been announced.A collection of hilarious rabbid advertisements after the break.
