This ad for PSP's Tekken: Dark Resurrection gets my vote as the best PSP ad ever. Of course, there really isn't much competition when all the other ads seem to be dumb, immature, racist, or feature way too much man-nudity. I don't want to say anything else, because the punchline works best when you don't know what's coming. Check out the rest of these ads by heading over to saveitfortekken.tv.

The weird ads just keep on coming out of Sony these days. Syphon Filter, one of the PSP's best exclusive games, has been out in the states for quite some time. Unfortunately for Europe, they just got the game relatively recently. In order to promote this stealth action shooter, Sony hired a scantily clad man to run around his house, acting a little silly. It's funny, but I question the wardrobe choice: certainly this commercial would've been just as funny if he were wearing pants. Due to the excessive amount of male skin in the commercial, I deem it somewhat not safe for work. Check it after the cut:

Our sister site AdJab has discovered a new PSP ad. And it continues Sony's strange fascination with bathroom jokes to promote their handheld. In this ridiculous viral ad for the upcoming Gangs of London, gangs must relieve themselves in order to "mark their territory." Funny or not? You decide.[Update 1: YouTube video was removed, so I've updated it with a new video. Also, updated AdJab link.]

HDTV owners like it when content providers go the extra mile, and that's pretty much what MTV did with these station ID spots for their high definition station, MHD. This cool animation which is entirely black and white was created by Psyops for the channel and also has 5.1 surround sound. Check out their page to see what kind of challenges they faced when animating for HD, maybe that's the reason we're not seeing prime-time animated shows like The Simpsons in high-def yet.[Via the SD loving heathens @ AdJab]

High definition advertisements are going upmarket, with these separate releases regarding Mercedes-Benz and Lexus producing their new spots in HD. The first focuses on the Germans, who shot their new S-class mostly in 720p (but some 1080p, maybe for Blu-ray or HD-DVD trailer releases only) and how they used Apple software to manage all the footage. The second regards the marketing campaign for the new ES 350 and how their three commercial spots set to run on network television during prime time were all filmed in HD.Seen any other HD ads lately? The last one i noticed was the trailer for the new Mission: Impossible.

That is the new rallying cry of the HD-DVD camp; will it be enough to move customers into stores to by players before Blu-ray comes out, or enough to make consumers care about high definition DVDs at all? Toshiba and Warner Brothers certainly hope it is. To counter, the Blu-ray supporters were considering launchnig a market campaign around the concept that HD-DVD "came first", leaving HDTV owners unsatisfied. Expect the milder tagline "step into Blu" when their media juggernaut hits the ground. They plan to start the advertising on channels that air high definition content but we haven't seen any yet, although I did catch a nice Mission Impossible trailer in HD during 24 last night. Drop us a line if/when you see the ads.[Via Adjab]
