If you were excited to hear that Gorillaz and Blur frontman Damon Albarn has made an album completely on the iPad, get ready to have a very merry Christmas: it's coming out on December 25th, Christmas Day, and Albarn is giving it away for completely free. On Christmas Eve, the band will release a new video for one of the songs, and then on the holiday itself, fans will be able to get the whole album for free. And why is Albarn releasing it right away on Christmas Day? "If I left it until the New Year to release it," he tells the media, "then the cynics out there would say, 'Oh well, it's been tampered with.' But if I put it out now, they'd know that I haven't done anything because I've been on tour ever since." In other words, he wants to make sure that when people hear this album, they really do believe it was made completely on an iPad. That's pretty awesome. Can't wait to hear the album -- apparently it'll be part of the Advent Calendar running on the website right now, so go sign up there if you want to be ready.

Deals on iPhone and Android games aren't exactly hard to come by at this time of the year, but the folks at Gameloft have cooked up something a little extra special for the month of December. They've just kicked off an Advent Calendar on Twitter, which promises to reveal a free iPhone games, Android games, and a few other surprises every day until December 25th -- plus "a little bit more in the end." While there may be a few duds in there, things have gotten off to a pretty good start -- you can now grab the updated version of the classic PlayStation game Driver for the iPhone and iPod touch.

The folks at Blacksmithgames have come up with a really nifty idea. They've created an Advent calendar, or in their words, an appventcalendar. Each day from now until Christmas, a new door will open showing an iPhone game app that you can get for free, but only for one day. Being December 1st, the first door just opened and what's behind it is 33rd Division [iTunes Link] a line-drawing stealth game where the goal is to escort your troops while avoiding enemy patrols. 33rd Division is for any iPhone or iPod touch running OS 2.2.1 or later. Tomorrow its price will go back to US $0.99 and another door will be opened. Blacksmithgames promises a mix of well known and undiscovered games to keep things interesting. So go on over and pick yourself up a free game. Then keep checking back for new surprises.
