If you've been patiently holding out on Destiny, if the Dark Below expansion is prompting a relapse, or if you've always fancied a picnic in space with Bill Nighy, then head on over to Amazon. PS4 and Xbox One copies are half-price there at $29.99, but that's for today only. Bungie's galactic shooter kicks off another round of Iron Banner today, and that's scheduled to end on December 22. While the player-vs-player event won't feature Dark Below maps this time around, Lord Saladin has exclusive level 31 gear to tempt you back to the Crucible. [Image: Activision-Blizzard]

Amazon, in a bid to recoup recent outlay, is offering open-world vigilante-em-up Watch Dogs as its Gold Box Deal of the Day. Ubisoft's game with the waggly tail is down from $60 to $36 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with the PC version nearly half-price at $32. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are available at $40. If you've really got money to burn, the normally $130 Limited Edition is going for $85. It bundles in a steel book case, the soundtrack, a real-life vigilante mask for use on your own hacking exploits, a hardcover art book, and a 9 inch Aiden Pearce statue.

Look high into the sky today and you'll see $37 copies of Titanfall, which are ejecting from Amazon Gold Boxes as per the retailer's daily deal. That price applies across all platforms - that includes the newly released Xbox 360 version - so if you've been tempted to mech time for Respawn's shooter, today might be the day to do it. Amazon is springing a few other Lightning gaming deals over the next day or so, including ones on PS3 Dafoedrama Beyond: Two Souls and both the regular and portable flavors of Batman: Arkham Origins. Check out the Gold Box page for all the deals and their times. [Image: EA]

  • Bling Bling: It's Saints Row 4 on Amazon Gold Box

    09.24.2013

Today's Amazon Gold Box wants to make sinners out of those who've abstained from Saints Row 4, the daily deal whittling it down to a lustworthy $37.49 on Xbox 360 and PS3, and $29.99 on PC. If that can't tempt you into buying Volition's latest sandbox of insanity, maybe a $70 Wub Wub or $90 GOTG edition will push you over the edge. Otherwise, you'll want to keep an eye on Lightning Deals today, given how this morning's Muramasa Rebirth discount was quickly gobbled up. Highlights include $50 worth of Amazon credit with a Xbox 360 purchase (6AM PT/9AM PT), BioShock Infinite (12PM PT/3PM ET), and a whole bunch of Skylanders deals towards the end of the day.

If, like some of us, you've been peering over the windowsill, staring sadly at all the happy, smiling faces playing with their Skylanders Giants, wishing you had the excuse to say what-the-hey and jump in to some toy-portal-fun-stuffs, then today's Amazon Gold Box might be for you. The online retailer's daily deal squishes the game's starter kit, complete with game, Portal of Power, and three figures, to less than half-price at $29, which is pretty handy. Elsewhere, the lightning deals aren't quite as exciting as previous Gold Box fare, although unusually the first deal of the day, a $20 PlayStation Move controller, is already sold out. The next deal, starting 6AM PT/9AM ET is the Move navigation controller, so expect a similarly wallet-friendly price and speedy sales. Based on the not-so-cryptic blurbs, we're forecasting flashes of lightning deals in the Epic Mickey 2 and Hitman: Absolution regions among others.

With the next generation of consoles so very nearly here, we should see some tasty deals for current-gen systems cropping up in the next few months. Witness today's Amazon Gold Box, which has the all-day offering of a 320GB PS3, complete with Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and 30 days of PlayStation Plus, for $250, down $50 from the regular price. If that doesn't take your fancy, then as with any Gold Box there's a smattering of short-lived Lightning Deals throughout the day. Looking through the not-so-cryptic list, we can see probable discounts on Ni no Kuni, Dead Island: Riptide, and Black Ops 2, among others.

Maybe it's just our Memorial Day hangovers, but today's gaming Gold Box from Amazon feels a bit muted. There aren't that many deals, and the all-day discount sees Injustice: Gods Among Us drop to $35 - a price we saw it at some time ago - albeit, the Collector's Edition is also going for $65. Still, maybe it'll perk up with the Lightning offerings. The highlights look to be Tomb Raider (9AM PT, midday ET), Forza Horizon (2PM PT, 5PM ET), and Dead Island Riptide. Regards Riptide, it has a couple of hours to survive at the time of publishing. The Gold Box discount sees the Special Edition sliced to $31.99 and the Rigor Mortis Edition cut to $59.99.

Today's Gold Box deal of the day on Amazon is BioShock Infinite. Downloadable PC versions of the game are $25 off ($35), whereas boxed copies of the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are $20 off ($40) for today only. Meanwhile, $35 Steam codes through Groupon for the game appear to still be available until the end of the day. What we're trying to say is, today might be a good day to buy a new game. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Amazon would like to relieve your wallets of any heaviness with another one of its all-day video game Gold Box events. A number of lightning deals will run throughout the day, and you can check out the line-up here. In terms of what's confirmed or obvious thanks to Amazon's clues, Black Ops 2 is going for $35 on Xbox 360 and PS3 at 11AM PT/2PM ET, while Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Dance Central 3 are likely contenders for later time-sensitive discounts. The all-day deal might be the one to grab your fancy, though. Crystal Dynamics' high-octane Tomb Raider reboot is down to $41.99 on Xbox 360 and PS3, and $34.99 on PC. We reckon that's decent, but if you'd prefer a chunkier version then there's still time (as of writing) to get in on the game's Collector's Edition lightning deal, which ends at 9AM ET. The CE includes a 8-inch tall Play Arts Kai figurine of Lara Croft, steel tin packaging, a 15 by 19 inch double-sided island map and poster, a lithographic print, CD soundtrack, three iron-on badges, and the Weapons Pack DLC, all for $76 instead of $100 in Amazon's deal.

Sometimes Amazon is left home alone with too much J-U-I-C-E, gets a bit too excited, and chucks around a whole bunch of quick-fire gaming deals throughout the day. Today is just such a day, and if you head over to the Gold Box page you can see all those deals just waiting to be hurled into your discount-loving arms. One deal is ongoing through the day: Dead Space 3 for $39.99, a touch cheaper than other recent offers. As for the Lightning deals, discount sleuth GamerDeals reckons they'll see StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty swoop to $17.99, Battlefield 3 Premium bomb to $39.99 (confirmed), and the Professional Edition of Hitman: Absolution taken down to $35.99.

If it's as ludicrously cold where you are as it is where we are, you should consider buying Far Cry 3 on Amazon today for $34.99. While it's not that Caribbean vacation you've been saving for, the tropical island in Ubisoft's open-shooter sure looks warm, and maybe that virtual warmth will osmose through the screen and into your near-frozen frame. That Far Cry 3 price is the deal of the day in Amazon's all-day, all-video-games Gold Box event. The first Lightning deal is already up, knocking the Plantronics Gamecom X95 wireless headset down to $49.99. The full list of upcoming deals teases discounts on the way for NHL 13, Hitman: Absolution, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and NBA Baller Beats. Well, the NBA Baller Beats deal isn't so much teased as it just says the game's name. It's just too cold to come up with a riddle for everything, you know.

  • Amazon Deal of the Day: Cataclysm for $20

If you've started a new account recently or have been waiting to purchase Cataclysm, now's your shot to get the newest expansion on Amazon for only $20. Cataclysm is Amazon's Gold Box deal of the day, with a reduced price for only 24 hours. The deal is currently on the U.S. Amazon store, but the boxed copy of Cataclysm can be added or applied to any region's account. With the recent sales in the EU for WoW and The Burning Crusade, as well as the free copies of WoW that were distributed to game veterans to give away, Blizzard is making a hard push at getting WoW into more peoples' hands and lowering the admittedly high barrier to entry of an MMO that's now 6+ years old. Hopefully, we will see this barrier come down even more over time as Blizzard figures out the answer to one of the more difficult questions in the MMO genre -- how will Blizzard deal with expansions once there are too many to reasonably expect new players to buy them all to get the full game experience?
