GameFly has sold its online games distribution service to AtGames Holding Ltd, the company revealed in a brief announcement at its digital storefront. The service will remain active during its transition between owners, and users will still be able to access and play their purchased games after transferring their account information to AtGames. AtGames notes that it will "build upon an extensive product line-up" with continued releases. GameFly established its digital distribution catalog with the purchase of IGN's Steam precursor Direct2Drive in 2011. AtGames, founded in 2001, manufactures a number of retro-focused replica consoles and handhelds, including the Atari Flashback and the Sega Genesis Classic Console. [Image: GameFly]

We don't do usually cover plug-and-play consoles, but this one was too cool to pass up. While Innex and AtGames' Firecore Classic Console is pre-loaded with 30 Genesis games like Sonic and Knuckles and Ecco the Dolphin, it can also play all your old Genesis carts. We're not sure where all it's available, though you can find it on Buy.com right now for $50. The console also supports wireless Firecore gamepads, though you'll have to buy them separately, and newly developed "Truecolor" games. Innex is also releasing a very cool portable system with 20 Genesis games playable on a 2.4-inch LCD screen. You can get a look at it right after the break.

  • Mega Drive Portable gets rebadged, available to order

It looks like that Mega Drive Portable we caught sight of a couple of months back is no longer exclusive to retro-happy gamers in Brazil, as a suspiciously similar-looking device has recently turned up for order at Play-Asia.com. As with the TecToy version, this one from AtGames is apparently officially licensed by Sega, and includes the very same line-up of twenty Genesis titles, including Golden Axe and Altered Beast, among other games with decidedly less hacking and slashing. Best of all, this incarnation the handheld is also a good deal cheaper than the TecToy, with it setting you back just $40. According to some early buyers, however, it seems that the emulation isn't entirely faithful to the originals, but at that price it's hard to complain too much.[Via technabob]
