Alltel shores up parental offerings with "Axcess Family Finder"
Right on the heels of its Parental Controls announcement, Alltel's tackling another side of the love-hate relationship parents share with their kids' cellphones with "Axcess Family Finder." As the name implies, Family Finder allows the parental units to pop up interactive maps online (either through a PC or their own phone) to determine where their children are and can also be configured to keep track of areas that kids frequent most. The whole setup costs $9.99 per month per child when used with a compatible handset -- and yes, Alltel is very specific about the "per child" part here, so we suspect you can't go strapping a Samsung Wafer to your dog.
Alltel intros "Day Pass" mobile web access
A full month of mobile web on your phone seem like a bit much? A tad overwhelming, perhaps? Alltel subscribers now have an option situated squarely between per-kilobyte and monthly rates for its "Axcess" content: the easy-to-swallow Day Pass, coming in at just $1.49 for 24 hours of all-you-can-eat news, sports, and miscellany. Of course, customers are still more than welcome to buy ringtones, wallpapers, and games over their data connection without paying a dime -- but if you simply must know the score in the game, you're now just $1.49 away.
