Midway to pass Blitz: The League II downfield this fall
Confirming an earlier report, Midway has announced plans to return to the line of scrimmage this fall with its everything-but-the-license take on American football in Blitz: The League II for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. While details remain scant, the company notes that the game's story mode will be penned by ESPN Playmakers writer Peter Egan, while former New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor will also lend his chemically-enhanced likeness to the title as well. Even so, with Electronic Arts' seminal Madden franchise slated to take to the field and bankroll retail shelves this August, how exactly Midway plans to sack EA's tough actin' fat man still remains unclear.
Video: A rain soaked Blitz: The League II
Heading into an unfamiliar gaming genre (sports game, oh my!), today we bring you the debut trailer for the Madden 09 "competitor", Blitz: The League II. There's a lot of attitude, a lot of rain, a lot of mud and face-masking (see, we do know some sports lingo), all giving it that signature Blitz feel. Good or bad. But our biggest gripe with this debut trailer is the fact that there's absolutely zero in-game footage. Nada none. Enjoy watching it though.
Blitz: The League, Game Party sequels coming
Midway has announced that Blitz: The League 2, sequel to their totally extreme football game, will release simultaneously on all three home consoles this fall (we're guessing it'll be right in time to get lost among all the holiday releases). What about the first game, which was supposed to be a Wii launch title? Saaaaaaaacked. Midway also announced a sequel to Game Party. They must have made back the twenty bucks they spent developing the first one. No details have been revealed about either game -- Midway is planning to release more information about their entire lineup at E3. We at least know what to expect from Game Party 2: an average minigame collection that will generate inexplicably high sales.
Shipping this week: no more jokes edition
Ever since it was first announced that Crackdown would contain a golden ticket to the Halo 3 beta, the jokes have been flying. We admit it, we're as guilty as anyone else, even "designing" our own box art for the game. At this point, most of us have made up our minds about the game. The demo has sealed the deal for many who now eagerly await the retail release. Good news then, 360 Fanboy readers, that time is upon us. As such, we are now retiring the "Halo 3 beta with free copy of Crackdown" meme. Crackdown is a good game that deserves its own space. Sure, we know that many are mainly anticipating the beta, but they just happen to be getting it with a fun game. Blitz the League demo tackles Live
The New Year's Xbox Live content dry spell seems to be ending, as a Blitz the League demo dropped on Marketplace today. Sure it's not the freshest demo around, but it's better than nothing. It should be noted, however, that Silver members will have to wait until next week. For the rest of us, start your year off right with digital football complete with digital hookers and digital drug use. Doesn't get much better than that, right? As long as it's a videogame, you can do all your favorite things and not break your New Year's resolutions!Oh, and if football isn't your thing, don't forget the Crackdown demo that drops next week.
