Here's some quick hits on a few big name releases across Apple platforms. First up, the funny and addictive DS hit Phoenix Wright has made its way to the iPhone, and you can pick it up for US $4.99. While it's kept the two-screen gameplay from Nintendo's handheld, it's still a great time. Square Enix has released another original title for the iPad; Chocobo Panic is a cute little puzzle/action game in which you grab and release the Final Fantasy-famous birds. Those expecting anything deeper will be disappointed, but if you want a fun touchscreen game with the slimmest of Final Fantasy ties, I hear it's fun. Finally, as announced yesterday, Half Life 2 is now available for the Mac via Steam. And it tuns out that Episodes 1 and 2 have been released as well. The game itself is a jaw-dropping $7, and you can get the two add-ons for $5.59 each. If you already own them on Steam, they're all available via Steam Play, so that means you already own them on the Mac, too; just head into Steam and download away. AAA companies releasing games natively on Apple platforms? Man, it's a great time to be a Mac gamer.

Square Enix's Chocobo Panic isn't an RPG about a chocobo uprising, as we speculated. Instead, it's an iPad game about catching and releasing chocobos in response to prompts. Players tap to hold up to six chocobos of the correct colors, and then must let go of specific chocobos by taking a finger off the iPad. This simple gameplay is available in both single-player and co-op modes, the latter featuring alternating turns. In simultaneous two-player mode, players compete until one makes a mistake. Think of it as a prelude to our fantasy chocobo uprising game, in which you attempt to keep the chocobo population literally under your thumb. Chocobo Panic is available now for $3.99. • 'Chocobo Panic' hits European trademark office

Square Enix has filed for another Chocobo-branded trademark in Europe. Adding to the still mysterious "Chocobo's Crystal Tower" trademark application, the Final Fantasy publisher recently filed to secure "Chocobo Panic." In addition, Siliconera notes that the "chocobopanic.com" domain is registered to none other than Square Enix president Yoichi Wada. Chocobo Panic sounds like a name for a downloadable puzzle game, but until we know for sure, it's more fun to imagine a game in which Final Fantasy characters become terrified to ride the giant birds after a series of Chocobo attacks. Players would choose either a Chocobo-scarred hero, who must figure out how to reach accord with the birds while also saving the world from an ancient evil (or something); or the brave leader of the Chocobo faction, who, in an RTS-like scenario, mobilizes his flightless charges while keeping morale up with yummy Gysahl Greens.
