Be sure to check your teeth for cavities after this post, as Square Enix will bring an extra dose of saccharine sweetness to the Wii this summer by way of Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon. The game, designed for both RPG enthusiasts and fans who spend their nights imagining dressing up the company's iconic yellow birds, will ship on July 8, and its asking price of just $39.99 won't leave your wallet looking for a phoenix down.According to Squeenix, this overdose of cute will find Final Fantasy stalwarts Cid and Chocobo hunting for treasure while trying to solve the mystery of a strange town full of people who have lost their memories. The game will even take the cute online via Wi-Fi card battles featuring a darling "3D pop-up book style." Kweh![Via Nintendo Wii Fanboy]

In the showdown of Wii Mysterious Dungeon games, Chocobo's Dungeon has one major advantage over Shiren the Wanderer 3: the awwwwww factor. The adorableness of the Chocobo protagonist and pretty much everything else in the game may help sway roguelike fans who are on the fence about which title to buy.As if the game didn't already overload on the cute, these new screenshots reveal a new character named Dungeon Hero X. Where did he come from? Is he friend, enemy, or both? No one knows (although we doubt he's firing the "Mog Beam" at the poor Chocobo out of friendship). It is a mystery of the Mystery Dungeon. A cute mystery.

The folks in Chocobo's Dungeon may have lost their memories, but those of us outside remember one thing for sure: chocobos are simply adorable, and baby chocobos rocket right off the cuteness scale. This latest installment in the dungeon-based Final Fantasy spin-off certainly rocks the inherent charm, particularly since it seems to be pulling elements from the recent Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales. If the gameplay is as solid as that in DS game, Chocobo's Dungeon should be plenty to tide Final Fantasy fans over until we get something a little more substantial on the Wii.[Via GoNintendo]

  • Chocobo gets a job in the Labyrinth of Forgetting

This week's Famitsu sheds some new light on Chocobo's Dungeon: Labyrinth of Forgetting, Square Enix's randomly generated dungeon romp announced earlier this year for the Wii. It will apparently forego use of the nunchuck, but players will be able to choose between pointing the Wii remote at the screen and holding it sideways. The Final Fantasy series' Cid will join Chocobo this time on his quest to restore the memories of people in the labyrinth, created by a boy named Raphaelo. Chocobo will also venture into dungeons more familiar to the series, with randomly generated levels, enemies and boss encounters. The new Chocobo title will also feature a job system not unlike its Final Fantasy progenitor. Although Square is remaining tight-lipped on exactly which jobs will be featured, executive producer Shinji Hashimoto does mention we can expect to see around ten jobs in all, though he won't say which (but we can see both white and black mages from the magazine's screenshots). Jobs gain levels by collecting Job Cubes after battle, giving new spells and abilities, naturally. Be sure to check out more shots of the multi-talented Chocobo in action after the break!

Gaming site JeuxFrance recently got their hands on a teaser video from the Wii-bound Chocobo's Dungeon: Labyrinth of Forgotten Time. The roguelike dungeon crawler is packed with our feathery friends from the Final Fantasy series and looks as if it will continue the same game style as the PlayStation titles. Among the obligatory cut-scene-laden clips are a few seconds of gameplay, but no hint regarding Wii remote functionality. The video also raises an important question: "How many different ways can the chocobo theme be remixed before it gets old?".
