  • Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero: May DLC

It's the beginning of the month, which means it's time to run down the list of Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero DLC. In May, we're getting three separate track packs -- the last week of the month seems to be void of anything new, for some reason. Like alternative pop ensembles like Snow Patrol and Alpha Rev? How about classic rock troupes such as Steve Miller Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd? How about Love in an Elevator? No, we mean the Aerosmith song, not that time you were trapped and -- forget we said anything. Head past the break for the full list of DLC for May.

  • GDC09 Rumor: Rumor is a Battlefield, new Pat Benatar Rock Band incoming

Amidst the drunkenness at the Harmonix Rock Band party, we learned that Pat Benatar's "other really popular song" is headed to Rock Band 2. If you rule out "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" (Guitar Hero 3 launch and Rock Band via DLC) and "Heartbreaker" (Guitar Hero: World Tour), that pretty much leaves "Love Is A Battlefield" as the likely contender. Either that, or they'll go for something super obscure like "Somebody's Baby" from her 1993 "Gravity's Rainbow" album. Uh ... not that we knew that off-hand or anything. [Update! Our drunken source was COMPLETELY WRONG! The new Rock Band song is indeed "Heartbreaker." So how about it, music gods? People are crying out for Love is a Battlefield, and a lot more Bena-tunage. What's next?]

MTV Games, Harmonix and EA have announced the May 19 release date for Rock Band Track Pack: Classic Rock on Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, and Wii for $29.99. While GameStop revealed the same date and price a few weeks back, following an ESRB listing a few weeks before that, today we have official confirmation, along with the full setlist (which is set in stone after the break).Additionally, purchasers of the Xbox 360 or PS3 version can download -- free of charge -- the on-disc tracks onto the console's hard drive (via Xbox Live or PSN), integrating the songs with any preexisting Rock Band DLC. It's worth noting that the Track Pack offers a reduced cost per song ($1.50) when compared to the $1.99 single-track DLC price. Of course, if you're as impulsive as we are (we done bought all these classics -- twice), then this entire post isn't really worth noting at all.

Without a doubt, the "Classic Rock" Rock Band Track Pack is real. The ESRB clued us into its existence, but a recent listing at GameStop reveals a price and release date: May 19th for $29.99. A PlayStation Network Trophy list also reveals additional details on the contents of the Track Pack. If it's anything like the previously released Rock Band expansion disc, players will be able to enjoy the disc with or without an original copy of Rock Band or Rock Band 2. We can expect 20 songs on the disc including: "All Right Now" -- Free "Can't Stand Losing You" -- The Police "Closer to the Heart" -- Rush "Holiday in Cambodia" -- Dead Kennedys "The Joker" -- Steve Miller Band "Peace of Mind" -- Boston "Rock and Roll Band" -- Boston "Take the Money and Run" -- Steve Miller Band EA and Harmonix still haven't officially confirmed the Track Pack, but we expect it to will available on all Rock Band platforms: PS2, Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3.

  • Guitar Hero: Beatles Edition a possibility

Aerosmith is one thing, but a version of Guitar Hero packed with Beatles songs would be the holy grail for many classic rock fans. Unfortunately, that possibility has seemed as ephemeral as the holy grail itself, as Sony/ATV has been extremely protective of digital distribution of the Fab Four's back catalog (it's not even available on iTunes). There is some reason to hope though, with L.A. Times reporting that Sony/ATV CEO Marty Bandier has said putting Beatles songs into a Guitar Hero game is "something we have talked about and something I'd like to pursue." Whether that possibility is something Activision would also like to pursue is not yet clear, but if the companies can Come Together, they'd both have a Ticket To Ride right to the bank. Come on Activision, Please Please Us and make this thing happen!
