Access denied? Some Lord of the Rings Online players have felt as though they were being kept out of the Middle-earth club lately as connectivity issues plagued the game. Turbine has been investigating log-in issues and came back to report that the problem is outside of the studio's direct control. "This morning we have received word that one of our affiliated connection providers is taking steps to re-route services around certain areas of the internet that are experiencing issues we believe are the root cause of the reported issues," CM Rick Heaton posted. Turbine says that the issue should be resolved shortly, but in the meantime the studio encourages players to try many of the workarounds that the community has come up with.

Many folks this afternoon playing on EU servers have tipped us to the issues going on with Battle.net. It seems that they are unable to logon, with all accounts being stuck on the "Connecting" phase. This is really bad timing for this to be happening, as it was just announced yesterday that on November 11th in the US and November 12th in the EU all accounts will have to be converted to Battle.net accounts. Many people are concerned that these problems will persist through the conversion, although it's important to remember that these issues have existed before Battle.net came about as well. There has not been any official word from Blizzard on today's EU problems, but that hopefully be coming along shortly -- along with an idea of when it all will be fixed.

As Fat Princess fans have already realized, Titan's portly PSN exclusive is plagued with connection and balance issues; but a fix is on the way. While Titan Studios has yet to put a date on the upcoming patch, it has revealed a list of some of the issues that will be addressed. According to a recent post on the dev's blog, the patch will tackle connection issues, lag, hosting problems, scoreboard errors, dead hat machines and scoring exploits -- to name a few. The plump princess's dev team has also compiled a growing list of balance changes and feature requests based on player feedback for future updates, including the addition of new modes, maps and classes to an already rotund release. Titan promises an online FAQ will be made available soon to address upcoming changes in greater detail -- a full listing of issues and future changes can be found after the break.%Gallery-28044%[Via PS3Center]

  • EA admits to errors in FIFA 09 online code, promises FIFA 10 fixed

FIFA 10 line producer (for the Wii version) Sid Misra has told footy fans that troublesome connection issues found in last year's edition are being addressed for the 2010 version of the game. In a forum thread on the official EA Sports site, Misra admitted that online connection problems encountered in FIFA 09 were due to errors in the game's code and are currently being ironed out for silky-smooth online gameplay in FIFA 10. That is great news ... unless you're one of the many people who bought FIFA 09 and were unaware of your unofficial status as an EA Sports beta tester. According to Misra, EA is confident it can sew up holes in FIFA's online system -- citing an impressive 95% completion rate during internal testing. We think that's swell, but seeing as though there is a major difference between testing in a controlled environment and the real thing, we're waiting to see how it performs in our own home before we get excited. There have been a lot of login server related issues lately with Battle.net accounts, and from all indication they don't all seem to be for the same reasons. Tom may not have the same issue as Sally who isn't necessarily getting the same error message as Jimbo. As much as the problems are annoying me, the more widespread problems tend to clear up pretty quickly. Usually. For some of the odd, lingering issues you may run into, Blizzard's Support page has added a section for Battle.net connection issues within World of Warcraft with some common solutions. Note that these won't necessarily fix every issue that crops up with the login servers, but it should solve some of them! The most common solution that seems to work out for people is the suggested edit to the realmlist.wtf file, using something like Notepad. Look for the Data folder within your World of Warcraft folder, open it up, then open Realmlist.wtf with a simple text editor. Check to be sure all four of these lines are contained within:

  • Home connection fix coming Dec. 18

Ah, Error C-931. You're like a Wal-Mart greeter gone mad with power, picking and choosing who gets into the store. Well, buddy, your days are numbered. According to a post on SCEE's official Home support forum, you'll be out of a job soon. Happy Holidays.Tomorrow's patch is "the first step in tackling the connection issues that you'll know as C-931 errors," according to the post. Wait – first step? "Its just a first step and we'll bring you more information this latter (sic) this week." Evidently, C-931 is legion and has one goal: keeping you from connecting to Home. Hopefully, thwarting you won't distract the Home team from its other tasks ... like giving people more to do once they get in.[Thanks, stargateheaven]

  • Patch day resources from Blizzard

Vaneras over on the WoW EU forums put up a post today listing Blizzard resources for WoW players when the patch drops tomorrow. While the post doesn't say "Patch 3.0.2 is tomorrow" it does have the title "10/13 Patch Day Paradise!" But the fact that 3.0.2 is dropping tomorrow isn't really anything new.The Blizzard resources he provides includes an FAQ on connection and patching issues. Topic covered include being stuck on connecting, having problems with your firewall, game version validation, corrupt patch files, blizzard downloader issues (see our patch mirrors for a quick and easy solution to that), and general patching advice for your operating system of choice. He also points out the technical support phone numbers (US EU), but usually the fastest solution is to post on the technical support forums (US EU) and you'll get a response very quickly from a fellow player or from a blue. Thanks to Trevor for the scoop

  • Time Warner Cable customers experience World of Warcraft trouble

Many of us with cable internet connections are well aware of the problems that arise when cable companies specifically block certain applications, such as the recent problems with Comcast blocking Bit Torrent. It looks like there may be a similar problem with Time Warner and Roadrunner Cable, as many of their customers have found to it difficult to impossible to play due to lag and latency issues for some time, reports the New York Post. To some extent, both TWC and Blizzard have been blaming each other for a while, with Time Warner claiming they have done nothing to block any packets or traffic related to World of Warcraft, and Blizzard pointing out that all of the players on the east coast with these problems are Time Warner/Roadrunner cable customers. It's difficult to say if Time Warner is being genuine in their confusion, since other ISPs have lied about similar issues in the past, but there are signs they are taking this seriously. They have contacted Blizzard's ISP, and players are saying that they have been contacted by Time Warner representatives looking to fix the problem. Seeing the issue making it into print media, perhaps, will give them the extra initiative they need to get it completely sorted.

Update: According to the Xbox.com support page, Xbox Live is up and running but some users may encounter issues with matchmaking and voice communication. Apparently technicians are working on the issue as we speak ... uh ... I mean type.Reports are coming in from readers that Xbox Live is currently encountering intermittent connection issues, by that we mean playing online, voice communication and even connecting to the service seems to be touch-n-go. The support page for Xbox.com has verified the service has hit a snag, while Major Nelson updated the situation at 11PM EST letting Xbox Live users know that "[the] team is updating [the support page] as conditions change."While we understand the frustration our readers are feeling we'd like to echo a comment made when Live was down on Monday, better it be now than on or after April 29. No excuse we know, but we're trying to find that silver lining.

Yesterday Xbox Live was scheduled to go online at 1:00PM EST after an 8-hour hiatus for maintenance. However, like any guarantee, Xbox Live suffered from staggered connection issues well into the evening. According to the Xbox.com support page and Major Nelson, Xbox Live was back to business early this morning. Today, in a rare poll, we wonder what your experience is like. Fire up the Xbox 360 and connect to Live, play a game or two online and let us know what your experience is like now that the dust has settled on the connection problems.%Poll-13094%

Bornakk announced today on the general discussion forums (why he didn't do this on the tech support forums, I don't know...) that they are having a number of realms randomly drop people. Indeed, this happened to me over on Eldre'Thalas this morning. If you are having issues, remember that you can go to the Blizzard's tech support forums and ask a question there. You can also check out our guide for solving all these connection issues, if Blizzard doesn't come through with a solution for you. We'll keep you updated on this weekend hiccup – stay tuned to WoW Insider for the latest!

Many of us, both in and outside of the United States, have been having serious connection issues with the game recently. Not only can we not connect to the game, but we can't even get on the main World of Warcraft website. This can be particularly infuriating because we can't go and find help. When I got dropped in the middle of Kael'Thas (the real fight, not the weeksauce one in Magisters' Terrace), I wanted to take my computer out to a field and yell obscenities at it about PC load letter.WoW Insider feels your pain! After all, imagine having to write about WoW only to find out you can't get into WoW.I wanted to answer a lot of the comments about what people can do. First and foremost, we're not Blizzard. So we can't really say for sure what's going on. We can make educated guesses through. Continue reading after the break for what you can do and where you can go to solve this problem.
