Just like the title says: LG is going to stop selling tubes in Europe. Plan and simple. We all knew it was bound to happen eventually but, gosh, I didn't think it would be that quick. LG partners with Philips for many things and tubes are one of them. They stated that the reason for the dropping of CRTs is due to demand for them dropping 20 percent next year, which of course, will be followed, by an even bigger drop the following year. The only exception to this is they are going to continue to sell their thin tube models that just came out. I wonder if it is because the dropped so much cash into them and just cannot bear to take them off the market yet. Whatever the reason it is only a matter of time till they too are taken off the market.

  • Will your next HDTV be a Canon?

We knew that Canon is a primary developer of SED technology; previous reports indicated that Canon partnered with an experienced television manufacturer, namely Toshiba. Toshiba has already announced its intent to have these bright, super-high contrast flat sets on the shelves late in 2006. Looks like Canon will actually have sets on the shelves too, only they won't appear until 2007.The announcement was made at the last month's Canon Expo in Paris, which we apparently didn't get invited too. Fair is fair: I'm holding an HD Beat Expo in my basement next month and we're dissin' Canon. On second thought, we want one of those SED HDTVs so Canon: drop over any time. I'll even clean in advance.

Are your TV and stereo system giving you the absolute best performance you can get? No matter how fiscally responsible or irresponsible you are, you probably want to get your moneys worth out of your equipment just as much as I do. I adjusted my CRT set when I first got it, and I noticed a difference, but not nearly as much when I with his 50+ inch rear-projection set, "it was like putting on glasses" he said. Our own Kevin Tofel already posted instructions on how to calibrate your TV for cheap, but if you're willing to spend a little more money and time, InformIT has posted an article with details from how to calibrate your home theater with the AVIA DVD so often mentioned in TV forums, all the way up to recommendations on having your system calibrated by a professional. Are you watching your TV the way it came out of the box, or have you made changes?  Let us know.

  • Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden creator favors CRT's over LCD HDTV's for gaming

In an interview with the Japanese Xbox gaming, Famitsu, the...interesting leader of Team Ninja, Tomonobu Itagaki, shared his thoughts on Microsoft's next-gen system, and also on the TV's he thinks gamers should play with. Team Ninja is responsible for the Dead or Alive series of games, as well as Ninja Gaiden on Xbox, and the recently released Ninja Gaiden Black. Itagaki is known for his ego as much as the quality of his games, and is always a fun interview to read. He starts off commenting on how he wants gamers to play his games in a high definition environment and is glad Microsoft is including high definition cables (although not everyone is happy with their choice) with the console. He definitely prefers CRT TV's to LCD, not because of refresh rate, but because Team Ninja has high end LCD TV's in their office and he is unimpressed with their color accuracy. (He doesn't mention RPTV's or PDP technology, maybe he should check out our buying guide?)He understands how important sound is to the high definition environment, and mentions DOA4 is mixed in 5.1 in some parts. Finally, he explains that he does not believe in playing games with ugly black borders, and jokes that DOA4 is "fully SD compliant" for gamers with 4x3 TV's.For the rest of the interview summary, check out IGN.

Everyone is looking for something different out of a HDTV. Some people crave the best looking picture money can buy and could care less on how big it is. Others want to be immersed into the biggest picture they can squeeze into their living room. Yet, some just want the best of both worlds.
