LG has, in the most casual fashion possible, revealed the name of a new smartphone it intends to launch in the Korean market: the Optimus 2X. That brand name was buried deep in a release yesterday about exclusive Ennio Morricone content bundled with the Optimus Mach, though some studious folks have unearthed it and subsequently found YouTube content showing off the handset. Codenamed the SU660, the 2X looks almost identical to the LG Star we handled for ourselves recently, with the only differences being in product code (the Star was dubbed P990) and the button array at the bottom. Looking at the videos after the break, most of the onboard content bears LG's local branding of Cyon, leading us to suspect the 660 is just the Korean variant of the Star. Either way, that LG presser also notes that the Optimus 2X should be launching within the next couple of months -- just in time to take the Nexus S down a notch or two, eh LG?

While all of you Droid, Incredible and EVO 4G owners wait patiently for an official Froyo update to call your own, LG's wasting no time introducing its first phones based on the latest and greatest Android build. Over in the UK today, the company has decided to launch the Optimus Series, a family of smartphones that'll run "on a range of operating systems as well as Android." If all goes well, LG will introduce around ten new smart devices worldwide in the second half of this year under the Optimus label, though only two are being partially revealed for now. The Optimus One with Google and Optimus Chic will both ship with Android 2.2 onboard, with the latter being specifically aimed at fashionistas who just might appreciate the "sleek curves" that make themselves so apparent. Further details surrounding pricing, availability and specifications remain to be seen, but here's hoping this is just the beginning of the Froyo flood to come.

Were you shocked and surprised when LG put out a Christmas Edition of its Korea-only LG-SU630? Neither were we -- but we are mighty amused that a certain reader named James Roberson was cool enough to take us up on our (joking) plea for pictures of the handset when he came across one at the electronics market in Seoul recently. This isn't the Christmas edition, but it's all LG-SU630 -- as indicated by the Cyon logo and 8 megapixel camera 'round back. Get a closer look in the gallery below. And for our next request, do you think you could send us a Sciphone Dream G2? We hear they're pretty amazing. kkthanksbye.

Mark this day down folks, 'cause it ain't often that you see a handset released in the US of A months ahead of South Korea / Japan / elsewhere in Asia. LG's Incite -- the same one loosed on AT&T's network in November of 2008 -- just got official alongside the new Arena today in South Korea. As expected, it's launching with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, a full touchscreen, WiFi, a multimedia player and that all-important 3.5 millimeter headphone jack. It'll be made available in both black and wine red, and if all goes well, it should hit SK Telecom and KTF in the near future for next to nothing.[Via UnwiredView]

  • LG intros SH470 slider in South Korea

LG's recently introduced SH470 has a lot in common with the KF510, but the Cyon branding and dark motif may be all that's necessary for the company to unveil it under a different model name in South Korea. The ultrathin slider checks in at just 10.9-millimeters thick and boasts a metal frame, 2.2-inch display, 2-megapixel camera and an ambient light sensor to automatically adjust brightness based on surrounding light conditions. Mum's the word on a price or an exact release date, but both of those tidbits could probably be uncovered if you're fluent in Korean.[Via UnwiredView]

  • LG outs Cyon "Crystal Edition" for home market

We can typically do without the superfluous fancification of our handsets, but we've gotta admit, this one isn't half bad. Some dude by the name of Robert Ryan has apparently crafted the SV300S / LV3000S (depending on carrier) "Crystal Edition" flip for LG's domestic market Cyon brand, featuring a floral theme and the occasional crystal that manages to not go over the top -- a rare event for bejeweled phones, we'd say. We're not seeing a spec sheet, but the phone features a 2.2 inch primary display, external controls, and a "big size keypad," though we're not entirely sure how / if that plays into the fashion theme. Check it Korea-side for about 400,000 won ($425).[Via Slashphone]

  • LG's LG-SV300 Wine Phone showcased at SEK2007

We're still a bit bemused at why the LG-SV300 gets the Wine Phone moniker, but even cellphone connoisseurs can appreciate a finely constructed handset photographed while receiving white glove treatment. The mobile was opened up and shown to the camera over at SEK2007, and interestingly enough, it looks like the enlarged buttons (and font, too) could hint that this device will be aimed at those with aging eyes (you know, the stereotypical "wine crowd"). Regardless of speculation, be sure to click on through for the pictures you're surely salivating over.

  • LG's SV280 "banana style phone"

Well, well! Who's copying who now, LG? The Korean firm rethinks (or, at the very least, rips from the Motorola RIZR Z8) ergonomics with its new SV280, apparently inspired by nature's perfect food: the banana. When closed, this clean-lined white slider looks like any other of its kind, but once opened (or is that peeled?), the handset curves to better fit against your face -- and we can easily see the ap'peel' (we so had to get that in somewhere) in that. Features include a 1.3 megapixel camera hidden under the slider, QVGA screen resolution, flashing sidebars for message notification, and an MP3 player. The rest of the phone's spec sheet is a bit of a mystery, but one thing that did pique our curiosity was the mention of "aromatherapy" -- and hey, who doesn't want the subtle scent of delicious fruits wafting toward their nostrils while they're on a call? In light of the local-market "Cyon" branding, expect this one to launch stateside in your wildest dreams only.[Via AVING]

  • LG intros e-reader cellphone for the visually impaired

LG's introduced yet another cellphone under its Cyon banner in Korea, this one boasting e-reader functionality designed for the visually impaired in addition to the standard feature set. That'll give you the not-so-special ability to play back pre-recorded e-books stored on an SD card and, more interestingly, have books and other documents read to you using the phone's text-to-speech capabilities (let's hope the voice isn't too creepy). Apart from that, the phone packs Bluetooth capability and can also act as a walkie-talkie within a 100 meter range, all in a pearly white slider package.[Via Akihabara News]
