Flight Simulator X lands on Steam at an 80 percent discount
Dovetail Games' updated, Steam-friendly version of Microsoft's seminal Flight Simulator X only just reached Steam yesterday but is already being swept up in one of the digital retailers' seasonal sales. For the next 24 hours, Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition is available on Steam for $5. At the end of the day, the game will jump in price to $12.49 (which is still only half of its regular $25 price) and will remain that way until the end of the Steam Holiday Sale on January 2. Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition includes not only Flight Simulator X, but also all of the content found in its official expansions. Dovetail's agreement with Microsoft precludes the developer from updating the game's graphics, but the studio has added new multiplayer functionality reliant on Steam instead of the now-defunct GameSpy service and has made it possible to run Flight Simulator X under the Windows 8.1 operating system. Flight Simulator X cleared for landing on Steam next week
Train Simulator 2014 publisher Dovetail Games has announced plans to bring Microsoft's seminal flight sim Flight Simulator X to Steam on December 18. Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition features the same meticulously designed aircraft physics as its original, 2006 incarnation, but also boasts more than 20 planes ranging from giant commercial airliners to cramped private planes, over 80 missions to test the skills of virtual pilots and geographically (if not technically) accurate recreations of 24,000 real-world airports. The Steam Edition also includes enhanced multiplayer functionality (it no longer relies on GameSpy) and support for the Windows 8.1 operating system. While the agreement between Dovetail Games and Microsoft won't allow the former to upgrade the graphics of Flight Simulator X, Dovetail is planning a line of add-ons to be released for Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition throughout 2015. Train Simulator dev lands Microsoft Flight Sim license
Dovetail Games, a developer best known for its work on the unexpectedly popular Train Simulator franchise, has announced an agreement allowing it to create new entries in Microsoft's storied Flight Simulator line. Under the terms of the agreement, not only is Dovetail now able to create new Flight Simulator games, but the company is also licensed to distribute 2006's Flight Simulator X on Steam. Dubbed "Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition," the late-2014 re-release will include both Flight Simulator X expansions, as well as the base game. "When it comes to licensing our simulation engine, Dovetail Games is the obvious choice for us to work with," stated Microsoft executive producer Kevin Perry.
