Ahhh, the joys of being in the Apple press! We're constantly getting a stream of items, both hardware and software, to review. Here at TUAW, it is our policy to never keep anything so that we can't be accused of being "bought" for a review. So when a boxful of mobile-oriented goodies from Apple-friendly retailer Dr. Bott showed up in the mail the other day, our immediate thought was to give them away to some lucky TUAW reader! This giveaway is oriented towards those of you who have both a MacBook of some sort and an iPhone 3G or 3GS. Here's what's in the mix: Moshi ClearGuard MB -- this clear urethane keyboard protector is one-fifth the thickness of silicone protectors, and is completely washable and reusable. It works with any of the existing MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air laptops from Apple. It's valued at US$24.99. Speck CandyShell -- If you have an iPhone 3G or 3GS, you're going to love this case with the hard shell and soft center. This is the "green/green" version, which is very... green. The value of this yummy case is $34.95. ifrogz Voltz USB Car Charger -- iPods, iPhones, and other USB devices can be charged with this car charger, which comes with a Luxe Red finish. It's worth $12.99. Matias Mini Rizer -- this is perfect for those situations where you want to watch a TV show or movie on your iPhone or iPod touch, but you don't feel like holding it for a couple of hours. This clear plastic, credit card-sized stand is adjustable to two angles, and has a suggested retail price of $14.95. Skullcandy Rasta Sweatband and Skull Necklace -- Skullcandy makes some great headphones as well as iPhone and iPod accessories. You'll be bangin' with your Rasta sweatband and skull necklace, valued at $5.95 and $9.95 respectively. Road Tools Podium CoolPad -- This sweet little pivoting laptop stand will work with just about any laptop Apple has ever made, except for that old Mac Portable... This one is black, will probably work with your iPad, and retails for $29.95. ThemaPAK HeatShift Pad -- We saw these selling like hotcakes at Macworld Expo 2010. These pads use special heat-absorbing crystals and can lower the temperature of your MacBook by 6 degrees Celsius. This one is made for 13" MacBook models, and comes in black. The suggested retail price is $28.00 So there you have it -- a happy mix of goodies for your MacBook and iPhone (or iPod touch) enjoyment. To enter, all you need to do is leave a comment telling us where in the world you'd like to take all of your Dr. Bott mobile goodies (no, we will not send you there...). Here are the details: Open to legal US residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 and older. To enter, leave a comment giving us a location on Earth where you'd like to use your Dr. Bott mobile accessories. The comment must be left before Sunday, March 24, 2010, 11:59PM Eastern Daylight Time. You may enter only once. One winner will be selected in a random drawing. Prize: A selection of mobile computing products from Dr. Bott (see list above - $161.73 value) Click Here for complete Official Rules.

The show floor doesn't actually open for about 40 more minutes (as of this writing), but here you go -- we'll get you in, let you look around, and see what Macworld has to offer this year. From the indie dev booths to the towering Dr. Bott and IBM booths, to our own TUAW livestream studio (look for our livestream later today) and all of the different accessory manufacturers, browse through the gallery below and take your own pre-show walk around the floor. Stay tuned all the rest of the week for coverage from almost all of these exhibitors, as well as more pictures, video, and blogging direct from the show floor. Even if (like one Steve Jobs) you're not here at Macworld this week, we'll make it feel like you are! %Gallery-85255%

  • Review: ifrogz iPhone 3G case

The folks at Dr. Bott were kind enough to send us an ifrogz Luxe case for the iPhone 3G to review. We drew straws (virtually) and I won the opportunity to kick the tires, so to speak, and give you my impressions. Personally, I'm not a big fan of cases on my phones and PDAs; they go in and out of my pocket so often that anything that adds bulk or friction ends up being more of a pain than its worth. That pretty much eliminates any silicone-style cases for my purposes. Thankfully, the Luxe case is made of a hard plastic with a satin finish, providing more grip than a naked iPhone, but not so much that it's a pain to get out of a tight pocket. The ifrogz Luxe case comes in a number of colors. My review case is a deep wine red color, which looks understated and quite appropriate. The case colors in pictures online look too bright and gaudy for my taste, but I can say that I am quite happy with the look of the red version in person, at least. The case is a two-piece affair, clamping together with a little round button on the back. While this is a clever way to hold the two halves of the case together, it unfortunately makes the iPhone much harder to use on a flat surface, as it rocks from side to side as you tap on the screen. My only other complaint is that the case fits maybe a bit too well, in that it can be a real pain to remove it once you have fit your iPhone snugly into it. If you rarely ever need to take your iPhone out of the case this will be more of a positive than a negative for you.The screen protector was a real surprise for me. I expected it to significantly interfere with the accuracy of my iPhone's screen, but after just a few minutes I forgot that it was even there. It is easy to apply, and easy to forget, which makes it darn near perfect in my opinion. My wife is currently in the market for a case for her iPhone, and were it not for the rocking on a flat surface problem, we'd almost certainly be getting her the Luxe for her phone. To be honest, nothing else we've seen really stands out as better, so there's still a good chance she'll end up with a Luxe on her phone, even though the rocking is more of an issue for her than it is for me. I plan on going out to get one of these cases for my iPhone 3G.

This morning I finally shipped out the first round of swag-bag winners from our Talkcasts. Congratulations to those who called in, I hope you enjoy your junk prizes. Unfortunately our pre-Macworld t-shirt winners wound up with their t-shirts handed out at Macworld, and those were the very last of our version 1.0 TUAW t-shirts. Time and budgets will tell if we make more. Instead, I shipped the folks who responded to my winner emails some goodies courtesy Dr. Bott. And speaking of Dr. Bott, they've been generous enough to provide a big bag (or two) of goodies from the likes of Griffin, Marware, H20 Audio, ifrogz and other cool manufacturers. So be on the lookout for more giveaways-- my wife won't let me keep this stuff lying around the house forever! (Hint: we've got an extra MacBook Air poster hidden away)I'd also like to thank Equinux for the copies of Coverscout and Mail Stationery Packs, plus some show swag, which is also making its way out to you lucky readers.
