Today's extended maintenance, intended to last from 3 AM PDT until 11 AM PDT, has been extended further. As you can see from the picture on the right, the downtime has been extended until 1 PM PDT. We don't know the exact reasons for this downtime, but we were overdue for a chaotically bad maintenance day. To be honest I was sort of starting to miss them. The thrill! The excitement!Anyway, if anything further happens with today's maintenance or we find out the reason for the further extension, we'll be sure to let you know. Keep an eye on WoW Insider, my friends!

  • Some realms are up [Updated]

The wispy voice from the previous evening greets Osull as he begins to regain consciousness. "The realms... are up... the realms... are up..." it says over and over again. The mantra becomes stuck in his head like a mind worm as he wipes the sleep from his eyes. He looks around in a daze and realize that he's back near his home in the neighborhood's bar, A Hero's Welcome, sitting at table being served a drink by Marcella. "What time is it?" Osull ask the waitress. His voice is rough and it's evident he needs a drink to wash away the night's forced sleep."It just rang 11 not a short time ago, mighty Warrior," she replies. Placing a large flagon of mead in front of Osull, the smell of the hops fills his nose with a promise of further adventure tonight. But something doesn't feel right; it's almost as if the wizards of Dalaran have not released everyone from their sleeping spell."Marcella!" Osull yells franticly. "Where is everyone else?"

Unsurprisingly, today's maintenance has been extended an extra two hours. It's somewhat expected, with today being a patch day.All of us can cope with the little extension, I'm sure. If anything more comes out of this, we'll be sure to let you know. Whether it be further extensions or issues, or even the servers coming up earlier than expected, we'll be here to keep you informed!

You knew it was coming. Wipe that surprised look off your face. All realms will be down for maintenance tomorrow, February 10th, from 3:00 a.m. PST / 6:00 a.m. EST until 11:00 a.m. PST / 2:00 p.m. EST. The maintenance is coming about to release patch 3.0.9, which will contain a few modifications you can read about here. There is also a good chance the PTR for patch 3.1 will be released soon. Check out WoW Insider's Guide to Patch 3.1 for more information. If there are any problems with the patch or maintenance becomes extended, we'll let you know right away.

Tomorrow we'll be seeing maintenance for all realms between 3:00 a.m. PST / 6:00 a.m. EST and 11:00 a.m. PST. / 2:00 p.m. EST. Ideally these things don't go over, but as you know, they often do. Look to posts throughout the morning on WoW Insider for updates. We know that there'll be a few bug fixes, which we posted about earlier. There is still no word if this will be a server side only fix or if there'll be a client side patch, presumably patch 3.0.9. Again, we'll get the news up on the site as soon as we find out.

As expected, tomorrow will have extended maintenance on all North American realms between 3:00 a.m. PST / 6:00 a.m. EST and 11:00 a.m. PST / 2:00 p.m. EST. I'm told that hope springs eternal, so hopefully the realms will actually be up on time tomorrow. And it looks like there's a good chance that 3.0.8 will be live when the realms come up. But I'll not make any guarantees here. Well, who am I kidding. I gave it an 80% chance that the patch will go live. But I digress...If the extended maintenance turns into extended-extended maintenance, we'll let you know. And while we're planning some great content for you all during the down time tomorrow, there is something on TV you'll probably want to watch around noon EST anyways. So perhaps downtime isn't all that bad after all.

  • Realms coming online early

    01.13.2009

Today's extended maintenance has turned out to be not-so-extended, with many realms already online, and more coming up every moment. I suspect that this will become the norm from here on out, with Blizzard's maintenance window larger on average than it used to be, which is pretty good for us. Let's be honest, we'd much rather have them overestimate how much time they need than underestimate it, right? It kind of sucks to see an extra two hours tacked on late every week, but it's nice when you know it ahead of time. For those of you that were still hoping and praying that patch 3.0.8 was today, nope. Didn't happen, didn't think it would happen. Will it happen next week? Ask someone else, because we give up on the guesswork.Edit: Almost forgot! Thanks to everyone who sent in tips about it. I was busy headshotting zombies. Shh, don't tell anybody.

The login screen is announcing an extended maintenance tomorrow morning, from 3 AM PST until 11 AM PST. Will we be seeing patch 3.0.8 tomorrow morning? Well, I say no, probably not. My gut says the last PTR build was too recent for it to hit live realms, but Blizzard is fairly unpredictable when it comes to patch releases. I'm bad at predicting patch dates anyway, so listening to me is probably not the wisest thing ever either way.If we hear anything to the contrary, we'll be sure to let you know as soon as we see it. As always, patch or not, WoW Insider will be here for you all morning tomorrow if you're looking for your fix.

Well, while we didn't get a patch after all (looks like that big edible hat I bought for Adam's going in the trash) at least we have happy news in that our usual extended maintenance wasn't so extended after all. I logged on as a test to see if I would start downloading a patch, and instead I found myself presented with a plethora of servers to choose from! All my favorites were there! Even Azjol-Nerub, my original server, which I actually still have a toon on apparently. This is news to me.If your server isn't up, apologies, but a cursory scan seemed to indicate that most are up now. Yay for less extended extended maintenance! You may now continue your regular scheduled gameplay, already in progress.

  • Extended maintenance, some hints of patch 3.0.8

    01.05.2009

Maintenance will run "extended" tomorrow for all U.S. realms until 11:00 a.m. PST / 2:00 p.m. EST. The last few weeks we've seen the down time grow as Blizzard's worked out issues, so I wouldn't count on the servers being up at 11:00 a.m. PST. However I'll happily eat my words. However unlike Alex, I will not eat my hat.We also have heard a couple sources whispering in our ear that patch 3.0.8 will be dropping either tomorrow or next week. We'll have to wait and see on that one. Don't take what we're saying here as any more than a creditable rumor. However these rumors do have some added credence in that they coincide with comments from Ghostcrawler today such as "These [changes] will be in the next patch (3.0.8) even thought they were not on the PTR," and "We'll be able to share patch notes soon."No matter if 3.0.8 drops tomorrow or not, there will be downtime. Fable II anyone?

The login screen is now announcing another extension to today's maintenance, with servers expected to be down until 1 PM this afternoon. Is that really a surprise? It shouldn't be! When they say maintenance ends at 11 am, they really mean 1 pm. Period. End of story. You'll probably be doing the same thing we are for those additional two hours: Wasting time at WoW Insider. We'll be sure to keep you updated, whether realms come up early or maintenance gets another extension. Keep an eye on the site, and we'll keep an eye out for you, and thanks to everyone who did the same for us and wrote into our tipline!

Wrath has been out for about a month now. We were excited about the game, but boy were we angry. We had restarts, extended maintenance, server queues, and whole host of other anomalies. Blizzard's solution was to address as many issues as they could and give us each three days of credit. There are still problems with random disconnects, server lag, and some other bugs. There's still work to be done, but it's getting better. The one thing that I'm still very frustrated with is the evade issue. This seems to happen to me far more frequently than it did pre-Wrath. I hate it when a mob resets just as it would die, particularly when it's an elite. It always reminds me of Jester diving below the hard deck. I have nothing to do but try to kill the mob again or move on to another one that's (hopefully) not evading.Over all though, I'm happy with Wrath of the Lich King. There are some dreadful quests, but some awesome ones as well. A lot of things are reused, but many are new as well. I'm over being mad and back to enjoying the game. But Blizz, if you're reading: please stop the mobs from bugging out and going home. Now readers, it's your turn: Do you forgive Blizzard yet? What will it take to make you happy with WoW?

All US realms will now be down until 1pm PST / 4pm EST.I really don't know why Blizzard doesn't just change their times for extended maintenance to make it last until 1pm PST every time, or just push it back to 3pm PST and be done with it. That way there are no failed expectations when the servers don't come up.It's a relatively contradictory thing for them to say they'll wait push a patch to live until it's ready and never give a time estimate, and then turn around and give a time estimate whenever the severs are down. Don't you think? Perhaps they should just say the severs will be back up "soon."Of course, I'm probably just QQing because this afternoon my lazy butt is finally going to hit exalted with the Kalu'ak. I'm going to go get that sweet fishing pole first thing. I'm going to dance with it too, a pole dance if you will. But alas that'll have to wait until I can log on.We'll put up a post when servers are back up, or some other debacle happens. Stay tuned.

Realms are back up after a bit of extended maintenance this afternoon. There has been no communication from the blues or other Blizzard sources as to why the downtime was extended. But with that said, all the realms are working and things appear to be going smoothly. And by smooth I mean I still have the mail in my in-box from when the servers went down this morning. So that's a good thing, right?

Bornakk just posted that the downtime has been extended until 1:00 p.m. PST / 4:00 p.m. EST. This is never a good thing when maintenance gets extended, but at least Blizzard is hard at work on the servers. We haven't received any information that there are any new hotfixes being applied. So we'll probably have to wait to log in to see if any of the bugged quests are fixed or not.WoW Insider will update you when the realms are up... a few hours from now.

Good Tuesday morning, Everyone! It's a long bit of downtime today, 3 AM to 11 AM PDT. That means that you'll have plenty of non-WoW time ahead of you. As usual, I'm going to suggest that you devote some of that to catch up on this week's news from around WoW. Here's a few suggestions: Hot News and Cool Features Brewfest is ongoing. Be sure to read the latest news about Coren Direbrew's loot (and see the overview of his trinkets here as well), as well as our guides to getting the most of out of Brewfest and getting a head start on the new Brewmaster achievement title, as well our tips for tangling with Coren. 08.12.2008

Good Tuesday Morning, everyone! By now, I'm sure you're all aware of the amazing and frustrating odyssey that has been the attempt to secure BlizzCon tickets, as documented here by Mike. This writer finally managed to buy his ticket only at 9 PM PDT yesterday, despite having been poised at the virtual ticket counter since approximately 7 AM yesterday. The sight of the Fail Murloc and his cousin the Fail SCV (shown at right) have almost been burned into my very retinas. As of this writing, some of my colleagues still haven't managed to get through to buy a ticket. As a reminder, the store will reopen sometime this morning, and Blizzard has said that there are a lot of tickets remaining. Despite the hubbub, all this trouble hasn't (completely) dampened our enthusiasm for the wonders of BlizzCon. We've spent the refreshing time tossing around speculations about what we'll see on October 10th. See if our predictions match up with yours. In other news, it's an extended maintenance this morning, which means downtime goes from 3 AM PDT to at least 11 AM PDT, which means you should have plenty of time to read WoW Insider. There's plenty of news to catch up on, of course, especially with a new build hitting the Wrath Beta servers. Let's take a look at some of it:
