A short preview from the Sci-Fi channel special about Gears of War 2 has been released, showcasing the game's story with commentary from the game's creators and ... a basketball player? Suffice it to say that the gathering of people discussing Gears of War 2 is definitely different. A few game industry professionals seem fairly on par for such a video, but seeing Zach Levi (NBC's "Chuck") Aisha Taylor from The Ghost Whisperer and Luke Walton from the LA Lakers is just a bit odd. Granted, we're sure they're fans of the game, but it seems a bit out of place, like Charles Barkley showing up in a documentary about Gore Vidal. But hey, at least it kills a few more minutes while we wait to actually play Gears of War 2.

  • Gears 2 COG tags hidden around the globe

Microsoft's viral Gears of War 2 Last Day campaign - where codes found on real life metal COG tags are entered online to unlock Gears 2 related media - is heating up, taking the COG tag discovery to fans worldwide. When first "announced", the Last Day campaign was presented in a way where we figured that the metal COG tags were only given to select media members and the codes (CSIDs) would only unlock various wallpapers, icons and posters on the Last Day website. Well, things are a bit different now (and still confusing), because now COG tags are being hidden all around the globe and it's your mission to find them, enter the codes online and unlock video content on the Last Day website. COG tag locations are randomly popping up on the website in the form of longitude / latitude coordinates, which you can view right here. There's still a bit of confusion and lack of organization, but you can follow all the latest Last Day COG tag news by reading the epicforums, keeping an eye on Gears 2 community manager SixOkay's Twitter and by browsing the official Last Day website. Find those tags!Source - Official Last Day websiteSource - Last Day discussionSource - COG tag locations (updated frequently)

Fresh off Epic Games' editing room table comes the second new Gears of War 2 video featurette. The first video was all about the sounds of Gears 2, this second video is all about the weapons you'll be using to dish out death come November 7th. Check out the six minute "Weapons of War" video (embedded after the break for your convenience) to get learned about all the new and upcoming Gears 2 weapons, including the new Mulcher, Scorcher, Gorgon and witness some new bloody awesome executions including the Torque Bow head pop. Speaking of the Bow, Epic added extra dialog for the two second detonation delay (nice!) and be sure to look for the new detonation effects. Extra credit to those who can spot the new achievement progress screen and crazy awesome Predator-like enemy. He's the evil dude you see above ... how delicious!

click to embiggen We're still getting our Gears of War 2 reception at E3. We've gotten a chance to play the game's multiplayer. So far, it's good stuff, and we imagine Gears fans will be pleased. We need to soak up a little bit more before we write up our impressions. In the meantime, check out a gallery of the event itself. Sorry, we're totally barred from capturing any shots of the screens, so you'll have to settle for pictures of the swanky club, Ciudad, where the event is being held in LA. Enjoy. We'll add more pictures to the gallery when we get a chance.%Gallery-27640%

You see that? You know what that is? That's a Dustin Burg experiencing pure elation. We're at Microsoft's Gears of War 2 reception. We are playing Gears of War 2. Specifically, we're checking out multiplayer, including the new survival co-op mode called Horde. We'll have impressions up sometime tonight, along with a gallery of the proceedings. You've been warned.

So the media blitz begins. GameTrailers just put up quite a few new Gears of War 2 videos, kicking off the massive amount of video that's going to hit the tubes during E3. The above video is about 5 minutes of multiplayer gameplay complete with curb stomping and meat shields. The rest of the videos (posted after the break) consist of a single old-map new-map comparison (Gridlock) and map fly-throughs for River, Security, Gridlock, and Day One. Oh, and be wary, this'll use up some serious bandwith.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Well folks, the Gears 2 content that was promised to be on the final release disc of Unreal Tournament 3 for 360 has hit our inbox (despite the fact that game itself hasn't yet hit stores). Consisting of a mash-up of interview segments with the dev team and clips of gameplay, the behind the scenes video touches on everything from new game modes to player count to weapons. Heck, why are still reading this? Just watch the video already! Still reading? Well all that's left to really say is just how much of a bomb UT3 is likely to be, especially if the only thing enticing about it is this vid.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

  • There are no plans for a Gears 2 demo

There goes another bit of the UT3 tease. ShackNews has confirmed that Epic has nothing in the pipeline regarding any Gears of War 2 demo. Like Halo 3 before it, the big holiday Xbox release has plenty of hype on its own to sell well. Plus, as Epic notes, creating a demo removes that much more from design, QA, production (and more) from the main game's development. They are, of course, correct, further noting that the game's two year production cycle would have made a demo even more difficult for Epic to pull off. *Sigh* All for the best we suppose.

  • Rumor: Gears 2 to have Chainsaw VS Chainsaw?

Remember, a whole 3 days ago, when Epic announced Gears 2? Sure you do, there was the stylized trailer of Marcus Fenix and a locust engaging in an honorable chainsaw duel. Well, the rumor mill is working a bit slowly as of late, as it did take a whole three days for word to get started that the chainsaw versus chainsaw moment seen in the GDC teaser is actually an ingame feature now. According to a Variety blogger who spoke with several people close to the Epic dev team, a melee attack from a chainsaw can be countered, and even repelled, by the person being attacked. How this effects balance, or what it says about future locust weaponry is all speculative at this point though. All in all, true or not, this could possibilty be cool so long as it doesn't end up being a button-mashing mess.

  • A post about Gears of War 2 box art

Since Gears of War 2's brief GDC teaser offered very little in the way of new information (you know, aside from the confirmed return of chainsaws and vast amounts of testosterone), we now have to resort to box art analysis. Though the art from Microsoft's press site is labeled as "temporary," it should be more than adequate to fuel your imaginary trip to the store to pick it up.You'll also have to imagine yourself mulling over paying $60 or $70 -- as you'll see in the gallery, the Limited Edition seems very much inevitable.%Gallery-16567%
