This whole global economic crisis, and its resulting massive loss of jobs got us thinking. We here at Engadget didn't want to stand helplessly by, announcing every new round of misery without giving anything back -- so we decided to take the opportunity to spread a little positivity. We'll be handing out a new gadget every day (except for weekends) to lucky readers until we run out of stuff / companies stop sending things. Today we've got a hardcover copy of iWoz by Steve Wozniak on offer, and yes, it's autographed by the famous dancer himself! Read the rules below (no skimming -- we're omniscient and can tell when you've skimmed) and get commenting! Check after the break for some photos of the prize!Special thanks to the Geek Squad for providing the book! The rules: Leave a comment below. Any comment will do, but if you want to share your proposal for "fixing" the world economy, that'd be sweet too. You may only enter this specific giveaway once. If you enter this giveaway more than once you'll be automatically disqualified, etc. (Yes, we have robots that thoroughly check to ensure fairness.) If you enter more than once, only activate one comment. This is pretty self explanatory. Just be careful and you'll be fine. Contest is open to anyone in the 50 States, 18 or older! Sorry, we don't make this rule (we hate excluding anyone), so be mad at our lawyers and contest laws if you have to be mad. Winner will be chosen randomly. The winner will receive one signed copy of iWoz. Approximate value is unimaginable. If you are chosen, you will be notified by email. Winners must respond within three days of the end of the contest. If you do not respond within that period, another winner will be chosen. Entries can be submitted until Monday, March 9th, 11:59PM ET. Good luck! Full rules can be found here.

Think your guild is one of the best in all of the World of Warcraft? Have you dominated your server since vanilla WoW, or run a packed RP event every week for years? Are you leading one of the biggest guilds in the game, running group after group through Naxx without any drama or wipes? Think your guild is awesome? Prove it!WoW Insider is proud to present our brand new Guild of the Month contest. Each month, we'll be choosing a guild from the game who impresses us through performance in raiding, originality in what they do as a group, or just plain old community (because casual guilds need love, too). And the winner will not only get profiled here on the site as our Guild of the Month, but they'll also get a $100 gift certificate to Warcraft.Swagdog.com, where they'll be able to pick up custom-made guild shirts for the top members of the guild. To nominate your guild, just send a short message (no longer than 200 words, please) to guildofthemonth@gmail.com stating why your guild should be chosen as a winner. Make sure to tell us why your guild stands out from the rest -- you don't have to have conquered all of the raid content, but you do have to be doing something extraordinary and special with your little ingame community. Every month, we'll choose a winner from those entries, and profile them here on the site (so don't enter if you don't want to get profiled), as well as award them the gift certificate from the kind folks at Swagdog. More rules after the break:

  • WoW celebrates four years in the EU

Slorkuz posts that yesterday, February 11th, marked the four-year anniversary of World of Warcraft's release in the EU, and Blizzard is throwing a few contests to celebrate. You can see all of the giveaways over on their site -- there's some nice Swagdog and Dell gear to win for coming up with a great t-shirt slogan, a piece of fan art, or answering some lore questions. Unfortunately, participation in the contests is limited to only a few countries, due to local rules, but if you're interested and able, have at it.Congrats to Blizzard and the EU for four full years in Azeroth! North America had our anniversary late last year, and WoW Insider put together a look back at what it was like for us. We all (including the EU) got the anniversary pet as well, so apparently, other than these contests, Blizzard is just giving this date a nod rather than a big in-game celebration. But there's always the ten year anniversary -- we'll see you in 2014!

You know, we were going to write about how NEC is cutting 20,000 jobs, and Hitachi's plan to possibly slash 7,000 workers -- but this stuff is getting kind of depressing. After a meeting of the minds between our crack team of editors, we've decided there's a better way to handle this recession: giveaways. Starting today, we're going to be giving away one item a day for as long as we can (until we run out / the companies stop giving us stuff). That means that at least for the foreseeable future, you can expect a teensy sliver of economic relief in these trying times. We're going to start out with some games -- Skate 2 and The Lord of the Rings: Conquest for the Xbox 360. Check the rules below, and get to winning! The rules: Leave a comment below. Any comment will do, but if you want to share a tale of heart wrenching economic strife, that's good too. You may only enter this specific giveaway once. Have you seen the WoW Insider Show live yet? You've probably heard it, through a subscription over on iTunes or even on our sidebar (we post the new episodes there every Monday morning), but if you haven't come to see it live, you're missing out on half the fun. We're going live again on Ustream tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm Eastern (as we do every Saturday), and we're starting off 2009 with a bang: Turpster is back after all of his holiday hijinx, we'll have one or two WoW Insider bloggers to talk about the news of the past week, we'll have a brand new intro (you can create your own as an mp3 file and email it to us at theshow@wow.com), and one more thing: we're giving away an Authenticator. That's right, straight from BlizzCon, we've got a limited edition Authenticator to give away to one lucky listener of the live show. They're out of stock and hard to find, but you can win one just by tuning in on Saturday. And of course we'll do all of the usual stuff -- answer your emails, chat with our live chatters, and talk about the most popular posts on WoW Insider from the past week. It's sure to be a great time, so if you've been a regular in the chat room from day one or have never heard the show live before, definitely tune in. We've even placed the Ustream feed right after this break, so just tune in right here at 3:30pm Eastern tomorrow (here's a time zone calculator if you need it) to hear our podcast the best way you can: live.

Yes, it's that time of year again. Door busters, price breakers, money stabbers. It's all happening again, for real. Of course, we like to get into the holiday spirit here at Engadget, but instead of trampling down unwitting children and old ladies at the mall, we're taking another path -- hanging out and giving away a bunch of gear. So look, you can go out there and brave the cold and the crowds, but we think if you're really smart you'll stay in with us and win something awesome. Tune in tomorrow all day long for the good stuff (AKA a series of giveaways), and don't worry, we'll be rounding up the best deals we find around the internets, so you can do some of that important holiday shopping, too.

  • Announcing the second annual WoW Insider BlizzCon meetup

Yes, folks, it's almost October, and that means it's time to start making those big plans for BlizzCon. And when you do, don't forget to include us -- just like last year, we're having a blowout reader meetup right near the Convention Center in Anaheim. Save the date for the second annual WoW Insider BlizzCon Meetup: Thursday night, October 9, at 8pm PST in The Lost Bar near the Disneyland Hotel (1150 W. Magic Way, same place as last year). If Blizzard does things the same way they did last year, badges will be pick-up-able that Thursday, so we'll all be awash in our goodie bags and passes already, and excited about what the rest of the 'con holds.Just like last time, we'll bring lots of prizes (and you may even get another round of trivia questions from me), plus you'll get the chance to meet and greet all your favorite WoW Insider bloggers (and commenters). And as you know if you were there last time, The Lost Bar has lots of great food and drink. And little boats to race!So if you're headed out to BlizzCon and will be in town on Thursday night, October 9th, at 8pm (or are in town anyway and want to come say hi), definitely come by our second annual reader meetup. And stay tuned for more -- we're planning on having at least one more live event at BlizzCon (we have to record the WoW Insider Show sometime that weekend, right?), so we'll let you know more about our schedule there soon.

After all, it is the weekend, and we'll have a new contest soon. Buck up! And congratulations to MrSodium on his new games.
