My World, my screens
While the DS Fanboy audience seems divided on Atlus's My World, My Way, we're feeling pretty positive about this one. Atlus has brought forth pleasing and ridiculous female leads before, and we always welcome the change of pace. The bits of dialogue we see here, and have seen before, look just a little predictable, but we're talking about Atlus here, so the end result will probably include a fine dose of hilarity. For now, we've got faith in weirdness. My World, My Way was just dated -- expect it in early February.%Gallery-39614%
Atlus announces world-changing RPG My World, My Way
Atlus has officially revealed the RPG, My World, My Way, that was previously spotted on the ESRB database. As suspected, it's a localized version of Global A's Sekai wa Atashi de Mawatteru (The World Revolves Around Me), and it sounds totally hilarious and great.My World stars Elise, a princess who tries to impress a handsome adventurer by going out on her own adventure. Her greatest asset is her own selfishness: she can use "Pout Points" (seriously) to alter the environment, add and remove monsters, and change other aspects of the game to her advantage. She also has a slime pal who can mimic monster abilities!This game looked interesting before, and now the Atlus Effect is totally working on it. This is aided by an actual, measurable Atlus effect: we can already tell from the website and the announcement email that the localization is really clever. We will be following it closely as it approaches its February release!
ESRB leaks new Atlus game: 'My World, My Way'
The ESRB has listed a rating for an unannounced Atlus game called My World, My Way. While this could be anything, Siliconera's Spencer conjectures that this is a localized version of Global A's Sekai wa Atashi de Mawatteru (The World Revolves around Me), an interesting RPG from earlier this year in which the player controls a "selfish princess" who alters the landscape in order to complete objectives.Supporting the belief that this is the mystery game is the fact that just released another Global A DS game: Master of the Monster Lair was published in Japan by that company. We'd be happy if this turned out to be true, because we thought Sekai wa Atashi de Mawatteru looked really interesting, and, of course, having Atlus attached would only make it seem more so.While we're on the subject of ESRB ratings, a few more DS titles caught our eye as interesting: Atari's The Chase: Felix Meets Felicity, which we totally don't know anything about, and the very cool My English Coach para hispanoparlantes.[Via Siliconera]
E308: Screens of the Monster Lair
Atlus has unleashed further shots of its dungeon-building RPG Master of the Monster Lair. Mostly, these depict some of the rooms that will be available to players from the get-go, including a musty cellar (apparently, hobgoblins are drawn to these), a warrior's dojo, a king's bedroom, and rooms featuring a hearth or water features. No jacuzzi in which orcs and goblins can unwind yet, but there's still hope, right?There's also a brief glimpse of the game's local wireless mode, in which players can share their dungeon creations with friends; we're only sorry that none of our friends are likely to buy this. New screens of Master of the Monster Lair, or Dungeon Maker, or both
It seems quite likely that Atlus's release of Master of the Monster Lair and Marvelous/Rising Star Games' European release of Dungeon Maker will share the same English translation. In that case, these screens of Dungeon Maker should also be screens of Master of the Monster Lair -- and even if they aren't, we can accept the possibility of seeing the same Japanese phrases translated two different ways, if only in the name of international accord.Of course, our understanding of the game is that it's about a kid who uses a magic shovel to create dungeons, which fill up with monsters that he then kills. Who could tell when something like that has been translated accurately?
DS Daily: The Atlus Effect
We had basically totally forgotten about Dungeon Maker until yesterday. For that matter, when Global A first revealed the game, we were (personally) unfazed by it -- it seemed to be just another dungeon RPG. Yesterday, however, Atlus announced that they intended to release Dungeon Maker in the U.S as Master of the Monster Lair. For whatever reason -- either our appreciation of Atlus, of games whose text we can read, or of Monster Lair, we found the news rad.Atlus games are generally great. But until yesterday, Dungeon Maker wasn't an Atlus game! Are there any publishers for whom the act of publishing a game improves that game's standing in your mind?
The World Revolves Around a selfish princess
Global A's Sekai wa Atashi de Mawatteru (The World Revolves Around Me) is an RPG with a fairly unsympathetic lead (even more than Tidus!) -- a "selfish princess." She actually has power to be selfish as well: she can use "selfish commands" to change the terrain within 8x8 areas of the map. Using "selfish points" she can change the landscape, the kinds and numbers of monsters that appear, and even item frequency.While out rebuilding the world, the princess can also enlist the help of "partner" creatures to help her fight the other monsters. We don't exactly know how this game is going to work, but it looks like an interesting cross between and RPG and a god-game.
Kururin Doughnuts randomly appears on Gametrailers with English subtitle
Is Kururin Doughnuts getting localized? You probably don't remember this as the donut-starring platformer with bonus dessert recipes that we highlighted back in March. It was released in Japan last week, and now some gameplay footage has appeared on Gametrailers.The mere existence of the video on Gametrailers isn't conclusive proof of anything, since undeniably Japanese clips of Stock Trader Shun, Let's Try Fortune Telling DS, and our favorite, Doki Doki Majo Shinpan, were uploaded on the same day. But what piqued our interest was the subtitle given to the game: Enchanted Pastry. It's not just a translation of the Japanese subtitle, Okashi na Recipe (Recipe for Sweets)-- so where did Gametrailers get it? Either they made it up or there's a US trailer involved.
