Had to happen sooner or later, but our dearly precious Grand Theft Auto franchise has sold out. Yes, they've gone all Hollywood on us. Oh well, it was great while it lasted with our own little video game living in obscurity.Check out this Coke ad where our favorite mayhem maker has gone all legit on us and is handing out bottles of Coke and kindness instead of bullets and bitch slaps. What's this world coming to?

  • More magazine scans of GTA:VCS surface

Ever since Vice City Stories was first revealed, the magazine scans have been trickling in on a pretty regular basis. This week's victim of fanboy scanners is Games magazine. There are five new screenshots and a few new tidbits: A new rocket launcher. (Was there anything wrong with the old rocket launcher?) NPC behavior is affected by time. So, you'll see clubbers at night, and bums at the break of dawn. Missions won't be point A to point B drives (although they were pretty good for on-the-go play). Expect water to play a much larger role in the game. Read the full story to find out more.[Thanks, Adriaan!]

Rockstar Games and Medicom Toy Company have teamed up to release a set of action figures inspired by Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The limited edition set is part of the famous Kubrick line of toys. The set of five includes Tommy Vercetti, Lance Vance, Ricardo Diaz, Candi Suxx, and Ken Rosenberg, scruples-free attorney.Toys teach kids to kill? Barbie caught in hot coffee scandal? The bad jokes are limitless. The set will be available this fall, but you can pre-order now for $35 -- that's nearly one-fourth the cost of the Fierce Deity Link. How often do you get to say that a Sony (inspired) product is vastly cheaper than a Nintendo (inspired) product?[via PSP Fanboy][update 1: Misread the sales page; the entire Grand Theft Auto Kubrick line has been in development for two years, not just this Vice City set. Snark removed.]

Grand Theft Auto in your hands... sounds too good to be true, right? If for some reason, you want to ignore the impending release of Vice City Stories for the PSP, you can pick up these Kubrick toys. The set of five includes Tommy, Lance, Ricardo, Candi and Ken so that you can re-enact your favorite GTA scenes in the palm of your hand. Imagine how cool you'll appear to your co-workers as they see you screaming "It's time for the Lance Vance Dance!" while playing with these figures. They're available for only $35, a real bargain considering how some of my own most-wanted figures cost much, much more.[Via QJ]

What's this "Grand Theft Auto" game that I keep on hearing about? What does it mean that GTAPortable.com has even more pictures and scans from the UK Official PlayStation Magazine? You start the game off pretty damn broke: you start the game in an all-new trailer park. The city has actually gotten bigger. Higher resolution textures, so that you can really appreciate the billboards in the game. Biker gangs return. Best thing ever: better looking palm trees! Many have proclaimed that Vice City was by far the best of the modern 3D GTA games, so a return with Vice City Stories is more than welcomed. Let's hope for more details soon. amazon.com is offering pre-orders for $48 shipped.[Via QJ]

  • Gangs of London code leaked, Sony not amused

An internal beta of Gangs of London, a forthcoming spectacle of urban violence on the PSP, has been leaked onto BitTorrent sites across the net. After vowing to never again take firewall advice from Gabe Newell, Sony Computer Entertainment UK urged gamers to avoid downloading the game -- not because it's illegal or morally reprehensible, but because the game is so full of bugs. "It is not the complete game and it has anomalies in the code since it hasn't been through our QA process yet."Content with having spared code kleptomaniacs the inconvenience of encountering technical anomalies, Sony's David Wilson goes on to condemn piracy, noting that "there are proven links that exist between counterfeiting and organised crime and that has some serious consequences (and victims) that people should give due consideration."Be sure to give this issue your due consideration before purchasing the game later this year and running about London, stealing and killing things.

  • GTA Vice City Stories: first screens, details exposed

GTAPortable.com has posted the first screenshots, scanned from GamePro (Australia), of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. In addition, the GamePro article reveals a number of new gameplay details, including the game's lead role, Victor Vance. Remember him?Vic, Lance's brother, is a 28 year-old Marine, and unlike Tommy Vercetti, he can swim (hint, hint). He was gunned down in the beginning of Vice City. So, as speculated, VCS occurs before the original Vice City. In fact, VCS is set in 1984. Expect subtle (and not-so-subtle) differences in the city you conquered four years ago on PS2.

GTA: Vice City Stories is a game that's so important, that we're willing to do box art stories on it. Every single morsel of info that trickles down to us seems so very precious. Well, it appears that the Australian version of GamePro has a cover story on Vice City Stories, and thanks to the beauty of the Internet, all of us can share in the details: The game takes place two years before PS2's Vice City: 1984. The game will feature multiplayer, similar to Liberty City Stories. VCS is "much bigger than Vice City." Helicopters now join the list of usable vehicles! Unlike Tony, you won't drown instantly in water: you can swim! New weather effects, including hurricanes. Better graphics: more crowded streets, better animation, greater draw distance, more variety of character models. I have to admit, just thinking about all these features makes me giddy with anticipation. You can read more at PSP Hacks, and then check out screenshots here.

Our Aussie friends at My360.com.au got a chance to playtest a near final build of Saints Row. In short, it sounds like great fun."Gamers will be pleased to know that Saints Row, from what we saw from the preview code, is far from a GTA-clone. It offers so much more in terms of customization and interaction that it really makes a run for the best GTA-type game out there, considering GTA is pretty much a genre in itself."Some of the high points:
