Halo 4 live-action web-series Forward Unto Dawn is up for an Emmy - no, not a tech Emmy, the real primetime deal. It's going up against the likes of HBO's The Newsroom and CBS' Elementary for this year's Main Title Design honor. The Main Title Design category rewards work that goes into title sequences, so we should doff our cap towards German 3D animator Polynoid, who collaborated with Halo 4 dev 343 industries on the intros for the five Forward Unto Dawn episodes. Machinima and Microsoft first released the series on YouTube last year, leading into the launch of Halo 4, before bringing it to Blu-ray and Netflix. If you've not seen it and you've got 90 or so minutes to spare, we'd say it's worth the watch, and not just for the titles. As for the Emmy, the winner will be revealed at this year's ceremony on September 22.

The first episode of the Halo 4 live-action tie-in Forward Unto Dawn is now live and ready for you to watch right here on Joystiq. The 19-minute opener introduces us to the cadets of the Corbulo Academy of Military Science, an institute that only trains the offspring of the United Nations Space Command's high-ranking officers. While it sounds and looks like a comfortable place, the Corbulo Academy is awash with the tension of expectation. In this first episode, we see just how onerous that expectation can be. We also see a live-action Warthog, which is pretty neat.Machinima's web series runs through to the launch of Halo 4 next month on November 6.

In this new trailer for Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, General Black ask his students if they're from Earth, or know anyone from there. We put our hands up, like, really high, but we don't think he saw us. Hopefully he'll notice us when the live-action tie-in kicks off on October 5,

Important cinematic lesson: Always go with the cyborg if you want to live. Master Chief's imposing appearance in this live-action trailer for Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, which precedes a full web series due in October, comes at just about the right time. Before that we almost thought it was the new Hunger Games.
