Alright, let's talk about dying lights, grim fandangos and how life is strange. No, not that recent rumor, silly-billy! We're totally referring to this week's new releases on the PlayStation Store, which include Techland's Dying Light ($60), the Grim Fandango remaster ($15) and the debut episode of teen drama Life is Strange ($5). All three of those are on PS4, while you'll also find Life is Strange on PS3 and Grim Fandango on Vita. By the by, Grim Fandango is cross-buy; if you buy it on PS4 you'll unlock it on Vita for free, and vice versa. Meanwhile, Life is Strange won't be available until Friday, January 30.

In a brief update to its website, publisher Idea Factory International has revealed that three of its roleplaying games will be released on the PC using the Steam digital distribution platform. The games include Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth2: Sisters Generation and Fairy Fencer F. Unfortunately, that's the sum total of Idea Factory's announcement. The publisher offers no information on when these games will reach Steam, nor any word on changes they might receive while being ported from their native Sony platforms. Fans are instructed to "stay tuned for more details." [Image: Idea Factory Intl.]

  • Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory sequel coming to PS4

A new entry in Compile Heart and NIS America's game industry-parodying JRPG series is coming to the PlayStation 4, Gematsu reports. Hyperdimension Neptunia VII -- that's "Vee Two" -- is a direct follow-up to last year's Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory on the PlayStation 3. Storylines in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series parody the real-world video game industry, with playable characters representing console manufacturers and publishers in an ongoing "console war." No further details regarding the upcoming sequel have been revealed beyond the subtitled video above, which manages to be both cryptic and deeply confusing. A North American release has not been announced. [Video: Compile Heart]

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re:Birth 1 is coming to North America and Europe thanks to Idea Factory, as the company's International branch ups its publishing drive in the West. The Japanese studio launched its California-based International branch last year with an eye to release its own games in North America and Europe, and first on the list is Vita RPG Monster Monspiece. We now know the second is Re:Birth 1, the Vita remake of PS3 game Hyperdimension Neptunia, and Idea Factory International says it's due to hit North America and Europe in the "late summer." Hyperdimension Netpunia mk2 is the next game in the "Console Wars"-parodying JRPG series, and its PS3-to-Vita remake just hit Japan last week. There's no news yet, but it now seems likely Idea Factory International will also bring it to the West at some point. [Image: Idea Factory International]

Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, a PlayStation 3 Japanese role playing game developed by Compile Heart and Idea Factory, is making the leap to Sony's Vita handheld as Hyperdimension Neptunia Re; Birth 1. Though this should be welcome news to fans of the original game, Dengeki Online offers no further information on Hyperdimension Neptunia Re; Birth 1, nor any word on when it might make its Vita debut. For that matter, it remains unknown whether Hyperdimension Neptunia Re; Birth 1 will receive an English-language translation, though the series' cult popularity in America (and especially Europe) makes this a likely outcome.

Compile Heart's weird Neptunia series of RPGs starring game consoles that happen to also be young anime girls, is branching off from its PS3 home to Vita. Hyperdimension Idol Neptune PP is even weirder than its base material, as it takes the setting of "Gamindustri" and puts an idol simulation in it. As producer, you put together a team of four CPUs (game console girls), build up their stats in an adventure mode, and train them as a performing group. Announced over the weekend, Hyper Goddess Faith Noire: Extreme God Black Heart, a spinoff starring the PS3-inspired Noire character, as she appears in Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory. At the same Dengeki magazine event, Compile Heart teased a game called Neptunia "Re;Birth 1" for Vita. No information was provided, but that sounds like it could be a portable release of the original game.

NIS America is aiming to bring Persona 4 Golden and Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory to Europe on February 22 and March 15 respectively. Though the official release windows for both remain Spring 2013, a PR representative for NIS America confirmed to Joystiq these are the dates being aimed for, and each game will be released "around that time." Official dates will be announced nearer the time, we're told.Golden, the Persona 4 re-release on Vita, is unlikely to come to Europe in more than a standard release, according to the PR rep. In contrast, North America is getting the Solid Gold limited edition set when the game releases on November 20.Regarding Victory, the third Hyperdimension Neptunia entry, North America has the same Spring 2013 official release window as Europe. We wouldn't be surprised if the North American date NIS has in mind for the PS3 game is in the same week. Finally, we learned The Witch and the Hundred Knights "should" also be coming to Europe. The PS3-exclusive action RPG is confirmed as heading to North America, but following its delay in Japan there isn't an official release window for its arrival here. We were told we'd know whether or not it's coming to Europe when the NA release date is announced. The game features the art style of Takehito Harada, of Disgaea and Phantom Brave fame, which can probably be deduced from the cover art alone. As for what's going on in that cover art, your guess is as good as ours.

  • Keiji Inafune is shooting lasers out of his face in an RPG

Well, it's official: Keiji Inafune has the best life ever. According to this week's issue of Dengeki PlayStation (as translated by Andriasang), the former Capcom head will appear in Idea Factory's upcoming PS3 RPG Hyperdimension Neptunia mk-II -- a bizarre outcome of an even more bizarre marketing partnership between Inafune and the game's publisher, Compile Heart. The real magic comes from the descriptions of his character's special abilities, such as the "Donnahandanda Nova," in which Inafune opens up his mouth, and vomits out an assumedly potent laser beam. We can't decide what's more wonderful: The aforementioned power, or "Creator Sword Inafune," in which Inafune wields an actual photograph of himself, much like one would wield a sword. Nope! Wait, forget what we said. That's obviously the most wonderful thing we've ever heard.

Are you in love with the idea of game consoles as anime girls, fighting against the evil "Arfoire"? Go on, admit it to yourself, and to GameStop. NIS America announced the Premium Edition of its PS3-exclusive strategy RPG Hyperdimension Neptunia, which will be available from GameStop "and other retailers." It comes with a hardcover art book, packaged along with the game inside a "premium"-sized box. One of those "other retailers" is NIS itself; pre-orders of Neptunia's "Premium Edition" from NIS America's online store (for $59.99) will include an exclusive deck of Neptunia playing cards, which you're pretty much guaranteed to be too paralyzed by shame to break out during the weekly bridge game.

Just in case NIS America's Hyperdimension Neptunia wasn't weird enough, this newly released trailer highlights some of the classic Sega characters that inexplicably make an appearance. Also, don't ogle too much over the scantily-clad anime girls; you do know that they're video game consoles, right?

We thought Idea Factory's bizarre strategy RPG Hyper Dimension Neptune was too, well, bizarre to localize, given that it's about game consoles (in the form of girls) fighting against the scourge of piracy. We should have remembered that NIS America is on call to localize weird strategy games that probably have no business in America. NIS is localizing the PS3 game as Hyperdimension Neptunia, in which you take the role of the title console/goddess in order to save the land of Gameindustri from the evil Arfoire, using summon spells based on other games. Unlike the dead Sega console for which it's named, Neptunia has a release window: spring 2011.%Gallery-106204%
