iriver's new Mplayer stash raids the rainbow
Maybe we're not Korean enough to catch the appeal, but it seems like somebody is buying these Disney-branded Mplayers from iriver: the company just released ten new colors for the player in addition to the existing five available. Despite our stodgy form-factor reservations, we've gotta admit that it's a pretty sexy palette. No word on prices or capacities, so we'll just assume they're still sporting 1GB capacities and a $50-ish pricetag. There's another shot after the break.
iriver clix 2 plus DMB equals clix+
In the natural evolution of any self-respecting, South Korean product, the iriver clix just sprouted a DMB receiver. The iriver clix plus (or clix+) is the clix 2 media player we already know and love with the welcome addition of DMB mobile digital television. Available in Korea before the new year. [Via cnet]
iriver's W7 media player and D27 dictionary loose in the wild
iriver just took the wraps off their D27 QWERTY dictionary and W7 personal media player they teased us with last week. The D27 if a full-size, electronic dictionary with plenty of audio and video support. It features a 480 x 272 display, FM tuner, 2GB of flash, and up to 27 hours of battery life depending upon usage habits. More interesting for westerners however, is the W7 touchscreen (finger or built-in stylus) media player which shares the industrial design of the W10 -- in fact, it may well be the very same WiFi device with Skyhook positioning only now sporting a W7 moniker for domestic S.Korea release. Video of the W7 in action after the break, plenty of pics and more video just beyond the read link. Update: More details in. The W7 goes on sale next week and turns out to be a WiFi-less, Skyhook-less version of the W10. The rest is pretty much the same: up to 8GB of storage with miniSD expansion, 480 x 272 WQVGA display, and 4-hour battery for video.[Via iriverfans]
Another iriver teaser: the Clix Plus?
Another iriver mystery courtesy of a marketing teaser campaign. This little guy appears to share the hinged, electronic dictionary stylings of iriver's other D-series offerings. However, another MIC-leak (think FCC for South Korea) tells us that iriver is working on a new Clix Plus model in 2/4/8GB capacities and a rumored 3-inch LCD. Could this be it? No one knows, but it's apparently delicious with coffee.
iriver teases again -- is this the W7 with WiFi and 8GB?
When iriver teases, our gadget reflexes go all pointy. Mind you, we know absolutely nothing about it except for what you see in that picture. However, there's plenty of speculation on the iriverfans site suggesting that we're looking at the packaging surrounding a new flash player. In fact, South Korea's FCC-equivalent, the MIC, just certified a new W7 iriver player today. W, as in WiFi, with either 4GB or 8GB in tow. Please iriver, just a bit more info before we commit to our gift giving guide?
iriver teases with D27
No details were provided, just this, a new splash image on iriver's Korean home page. That "D" in the model number, however, likely stands for dictionary like the D5 before it. We're also expecting a QWERTY beneath that hinged surface. Color up, contents up? WiFi, HSDPA... who knows. Really, who knows?
iriver's P10 shipping in December? gimme gimme gimme
Get ready for it kiddies, iRiver's P10 appears ready to bust free. According to the forum jockeys frequenting iriverfans, the P10 is set for launch in December. With its biggie, 4.3-inch display and iriver's meticulously applied mechanical and software engineering prowess -- we'll be chomping at the bit for dibs on this mysterious media player.
iriver's B20 gets hands-on treatment
iriver's nicely featured B20 may only make us Americans envious, but for those able to take advantage of DAB / DMB, what's not to love? The folks over at CNET were able to get ahold of the aforementioned device and not only brush over some of its most notable qualities, but also offer up a nice selection of photos for you and your comrades to look at longingly. Check out a couple more angles after the break, or hit the read link for the full spread.[Thanks, Andy H.]
Brando brings iriver's S7 "choat" DAP to the States at last
It's all suddenly so clear. We've never been able to find true satisfaction in a domestic DAP due to the dearth of choat-based interfaces. Scroll wheels and touch screens are all well and good, but where's the magic? Well our problem has finally been solved by Brando, who is importing the iriver S7 -- which showed up in Korea about a year ago -- to the States as the "USB Chocolate MP3 Player." There's 2GB of memory, MP3 and WMA playback, 4 LEDs and a $40 pricetag, but none of that really matters in light of the fact that there's a chicken-goat hybrid gracing the volume up button, while a peeing dog shushes the DAP. We've finally found true love.
iriver goes slumming with Siren DP350
It actually makes us a wee bit nauseous to see all these low-end Siren devices come from iriver's team of design slayers. Nevertheless, we'll hold down our angst-kebab long enough to tell you about their new DP350 media player. Your ¥17,800 (about $153) takes home 4GB of storage, a 1.8-inch 128 x 160 pixel display, and support for MPEG-4 and WMV video and AAC, OGG, MP3, WMA, and WAV audio. It also features an FM radio which, along with your voice, can be directly recorded to WAV/WMA files. Ironically, the big name players in this category offer devices at the same price with arguably better specs (or at least ecosystems) in DAPs half as thick. So sorry iriver, but you've got us scratching our collective heads over this release.
iriver's G10 WiBro gamer reborn as the Postdata G100
iriver's G10 / Wing handheld game console has been a pretty serious flame-out for the company -- while the concept of an 8GB 4-inch touchscreen handheld that rocked wireless multiplayer features over WiBro and WiFi seemed like a winner, endless delays eventually resulted in the device falling off the radar, and eventually just falling off the company's plans. It looks like the G10 is about to get another go-around, however, as Postdata (iriver's development partner on the G10) is showing off a revised played called the G100 at the WiMAX World conference. The G100 features a 4.3-inch touchscreen, WiMAX, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a slightly modified keypad. No word on availability, but at this point Postdata's way ahead of the game by just showing off actual devices.[Thanks, Brian]
iriver W10 WiFi media player with Skyhook positioning ready in November?
Man, we've been painstakingly following iriver's development of the W10 media player since it was first rumored back in July of 2006. Well before touchscreen DAPs were all the rage. One hands-on and several postings later, iRiver seems prepped to push their baby out in November to what will assuredly be an adoring public, in S.Korea anyway. What's the fuss? 3-inch, 480 x 272 TFT touchscreen interface; WiFi with Skyhook's GPS-like positioning and NAVTEQ maps; VoIP; FM tuner; AOL XM radio streaming; 2/4/8GB capacities with miniSD expansion; and support for MP3, WMA, OGG audio and MPEG-4, WMV9 video all riding atop an iriver tuned WinCE 5.0 OS. Thing is, those NAVTEQ maps and POIs are "only suitable for US" -- a hopeful sign that we'll see these Stateside in time for the holidays.[Thanks, Al]
8GB iriver clix 2 now available in US
Yeah, we know our overseas brethren have been toying with their 8GB clix 2 DAPs for awhile now, but as these things usually go, we Americans are celebrating late. Nevertheless, the US iriver store is now offering up the 8GB clix 2 for purchase, and it still touts that lovable 2.2-inch AMOLED display, an FM tuner, integrated voice recorder, up to 24-hours of battery life, and USB 2.0 connectivity. All yours for $239.99.
iriver's first Siren DAP: the DP250
Merely four months after acquiring Siren, iriver has just unveiled its first DAP under the new brand: the DP250. This pocket-friendly (and admittedly stylish) player will be available in 1GB or 2GB flavors, black or white color schemes, and include an FM tuner / transmitter, a built-in speaker, voice recording functionality, and a minuscule display to keep track of what's spinning. Additionally, you can expect around 18-hours of playtime on a single charge, and those parked in Japan can pick the 1GB edition up next week for ¥9,980 ($86) or double their capacity for ¥5,000 ($43) more.[Via AnythingButiPod]
iriver's B20 mini-TV features DAB / DMB in a familiar format
It took a little while to get it out of Korea, but iriver is finally giving the B20 DMB TV some circulation come September. With the still-sexy looks of the original Clix, plus hot DAB / DMB / FM tuners and full-fledged PMP function, there's a lot to love about the new DAP. The 2.4-inch screen does it up QVGA, and there's a pop-up antenna hidden in the back. It comes in 2GB and 4GB flavors, and includes an SD card slot if that's not enough to satisfy. We're hearing 27 hours of battery life, but no precise launch date or price info just yet.[Via PlayerBites]
iRiver's NV PMP / navigator hits Korean shelves
As far as elegant design goes, it doesn't get much classier than the iRiver NV, the oversized jog wheel havin', GPS sportin', DMB streamin', music and video playin', Swiss-army-knife of devices. Apparently, the NV has gone from geek-lust fantasy to pocketbook-lightening reality this week, as iRiver officially released the player / navigator to Korean audiences. In case you've forgotten the details, the NV rocks a 7-inch, 800 x 480 screen (plus a small PMOLED display on the wheel), a 1.3-megapixel camera, utilizes a "dual core" processor, runs on top of Windows CE 5.0, and does all the typical media playback (OGG, MP3, WMA, XviD, AVI, AAC, and so on). The player also boasts T-DMB, a SiRFStar III GPS chip, two SD slots, stereo speakers, and USB connectivity. The wonder-device is on sale now in Korea for 498,000 Won, or about $536. Cross your fingers and maybe (but probably not) we'll see this puppy Stateside. For now, check all the NV's angles in the gallery after the break. %Gallery-5836%
iRiver's Mickey Mouse Mplayer gets unboxed, reviewed
We know you've all been waiting with bated breath for someone to get their hands on iRiver's Disney sanctioned Mickey Mouse Mplayer music jockey and unbox the hell out of it. Well, luckily for you, Pocketables is just as excited about the tiny, cartoon-shaped DAP as you are, and they've given us a full breakdown of the school-girl's dream gadget. Point yourself to the read link for a proper box thrashing and semi-unimpressed review.
Siren's PN100 GPS navigator: a first from iriver's new low-ender
Here we go, the PN100 is the first product to be birthed from iriver's acquisition of Siren in Japan. The WinCE-based PN100 sold under the Siren branding is a first GPS navigator for Siren and features a 3.5-inch, 320 x 240 touchscreen LCD, SD slot, standard 3.5-mm audio jack, 3-hour battery, and support for plenty of audio and video playback including MOV/AVI/MP4/3GPP/ASF (SD-Video) and MP3/WMA/WAV file formats. Unfortunately, it lacks the refined design we've come to expect from iriver gear. Still it's early days so we'll assume (and hope) the PN100 was already in the production pipeline before the acquisition. Available in Japan starting August 3rd for about ¥39,800 or about $335. Iriver's Clix bumped to 8GB in S.Korea
While the rest of the world struggles to get by with their 2GB or 4GB gen 2 Clix, those lucky S.Koreans will see an 8GB unit drop tomorrow. No word on pricing, just the simple full-page, minimalistic tease we've grown accustomed to from iriver "announcements." Fortunately for us, this update (unlike so much of their gear) will likely make its way westward in due time.[Via Misticriver]
iriver and Real team up for clix Rhapsody
It always warms our hearts to see some solid device / service integration on the non-Apple side of things, and now iriver and Real are getting all cozy with the new clix Rhapsody player. Based on the gen 2 clix PMP, the player includes Rhapsody-specific functions such as album art and editorial reviews, along with features to let you to rate songs on the device and discover new music via personalized channels that get loaded each time you hook up to the service -- similar to what can be found on the Sansa Rhapsody. The player costs $190 for 4GB of storage and is available now online, but the best news is a firmware upgrade available at iriver's site that brings all these functions to your current second-gen clix for free.
