  • The Game Archaeologist: Neocron and Neocron 2

It's the distant future. The high-tech battle armor you wear sharply contrasts with the ruins of civilization that you traverse. You spot an enemy and raise your pulse rifle, firing off shots as you strafe to cover. Technology hasn't solved the issue of war; it's just made it that much more bloody. PlanetSide 2? Nope -- this is Neocron, the quite-forgettable MMOFPS from the way-back era. I like to call it "that game with the most regrettable cover art in the history of video games," but that isn't quite as snappy. Going into this article, I have to admit that I previously knew absolutely nothing about Neocron other than the fact that it was a sci-fi MMO that vaguely reminded me of Anarchy Online. Oh, also the fact that nobody I know or perhaps ever will know played it. Is it just a myth? A practical joke to make us believe in a MMO phantom? Only sifting through layers of dust and grime would produce results, so I rolled up my sleeves and started digging.

  • Daily iPhone App: Judge Dredd vs. Zombies

There have been a few strangely licensed games on the App Store this year (Army of Darkness Defense jumps to mind), and Judge Dredd vs. Zombies is one of those. There's no Judge Dredd movies in production as far as I know, and the comic is still rather obscure, despite the Sylvester Stallone movie. But it doesn't really matter, because sometimes zombies, catchphrases and a good shotgun are all you need. Judge Dredd vs. Zombies is pretty spare and is definitely a road we've run down before, but that doesn't mean it's not fun. A steady upgrade system keeps you jumping through thirty levels, and fun multiplier mechanics (hitting more zombies at a time will up your score) keep things interesting as you mow baddies and one-liners. It's a dual-stick game but these are actually single-stick controls as well. Just move with one virtual stick, and hit a big (red, duh) button to fire away. It's fun stuff, and Game Center integration and the fact that it's a universal app for just 99 cents make this one easy to recommend. It's not anything new, but there's nothing wrong with playing through old kinds of gameplay done just right.

  • Ryno Motors self-balancing, single-wheeled scooter test ride

We've had the opportunity to ride some crazy contraptions over the years here at Engadget, like the skateboard-cum-tank Shredder and the self-balancing two-seater from GM called the EN-V. Today we carry on that tradition with another thing that can keep itself -- and its occupant -- perched upright. It's called the Ryno, an all-electric single-wheeled scooter that looks like something Judge Dredd would throw a leg over before bringing justice to some nefarious evil-doers. It's the pet product of mechanical engineer Chris Hoffmann and, after five years of tinkering and development, it could be finally making its way into peoples' garages by next year. Join us for a wobbly first ride. %Gallery-136084%

It looks like that Judge Dredd sticker pack for LittleBigPlanet may contain more than just stickers after all. Two costumes from an upcoming 2000AD DLC pack have been revealed on Media Molecule's website, with more being revealed each day until the pack is released on Thursday, May 28. Accompanying Judge Dredd, who can be seen above, will be Judge Cassandra Anderson. You can catch a glimpse of her costume after the break. No doubt we'll also be seeing the release of the Jarlsberg patch this week, which was listed on the Media Molecule patch whiteboard and has some connection to this 2000AD pack. It's probably nothing more than a patch that adds the content to the game, but you never know. Keep checking back for more costume reveals over the next few days.

So that's what that mysterious whiteboard was about! Judge Dredd is getting his own sticker pack in LittleBigPlanet, one of many upcoming packs to LittleBigPlanet. According to Edge, a number of graphic artists are collaborating with Sony's community-driven platformer. Jon Burgermann is one of the first artists confirmed to be designing a few stickers for the game.Media Molecule has approached a number of artists as well, such as Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and French artist Claire Wendling. Users who download stickers will be able to get a lot more functionality in the future as an upcoming patch will allow players to create items simply using stickers. "They are so empowering those bits because you just stick them on the materials, cut it out, and you've got like a handmade character."
