  • Joystiq review: Fable 2's Knothole Island (DLC)

There's a man waiting for you at the Bowerstone docks. He's eager to stick you into his aquatic taxi and drop you off on the shores of Knothole Island. Like most helpful RPG citizens, he's been roped into a fetch quest: Find a hero and bring him or her back to the island community, which currently finds itself immobilized by frigid weather. At least, that's what you gather from the chief's note, gracelessly read to you word for word. Whether intentional or not, the sequence works as a cheeky parody of the add-on's Xbox Live Marketplace description. Is it worth the $10 asking price? Well, the truth is that your feelings on the main game will have already pushed you to the brink of a decision, and you just want us to push you that little bit further. We can tell you that everything you love (or loathe) about Fable 2 is on Knothole Island: the unwaveringly witty writing; the real estate opportunities; the charming townsfolk; and treasure. Oh, the treasure.%Gallery-38447%

  • Found on Knothole Island: Halo's assault rifle

Or rather, "Hal's Rifle." As many players of Fable 2's $10 Knothole Island add-on have discovered, the meteorologically confused island offers an anachronistic surprise within the "Box of Secrets" store. If you've got a pure experience extract potion to trade, this rapid-fire rifle (with an ammo capacity of 24!) is sure to complete that spartan ensemble in your hero's closet. Switch out those pesky Hobbes for Grunts and nobody will know you're playing a non-shooty game. Masculinity preserved!Another futuristic, albeit considerably less charming, addition to Albion comes in the former of an alleged animation glitch. According to a PushingPlay blogger, the DLC's addition caused his character to cease walking and simply slide everywhere -- appropriate for the Knothole's (sometimes) frigid climate, but something we've asked Lionhead to look into. Check back later for Joystiq's verdict on the new quests.%Gallery-42191%

  • Fable 2 Heros can now wield Hal's Rifle

Word on the web is that Fable 2's recently released Knothole Island DLC comes packed with a certain Halo'riffic surprise that'll not only tickle your inner Master Chief fanboy, but will also aid in eliminating any and all Hobbes. Available for trade at "The Box of Secrets" store is a new weapon that's, coincidentally enough, named Hal's Rifle. This new rifle weaponry looks a lot like the classic Halo Assault Rifle and its name, well ... it's kinda obvious what Lionhead is going for. Sporting a decent 59 damage per shot, a range of 50, 24 shots per clip and an augment slot, Hal's Rifle is a smart purchase. Especially for those who are sporting Fable 2's other Halo'tastic apparel.

  • Fable II Knothole Island DLC now available

For those of you who just can't get enough of the land of Albion, the Fable II Knothole Island downloadable content is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. We suppose that we should add that the DLC is only for those who can't get enough of Albion and have ten bucks to spare though, as the new content will cost you 800 Microsoft Points. The content contains new achievements, a brand new island to explore and a special Resurrection Shrine.A quick note of clarification: there is also a "free" Knothole Island download available, but it's not what you think. The free download will only allow players without the DLC to play co-op with players that have purchased it. And no, you can't download the free DLC and play the new content with someone who purchased the premium version. You can still play co-op with someone who has it, but you'll have to purchase the premium version in order to visit Knothole Island together.Quickie addendum: It looks like the free DLC does come with some free goodies. You can get them from Gordon the submariner (no, really) in the Bowerstone Market docks. Gallery: Fable 2 - Knothole Island DLC

To prevent the pain that is caused by millions of fanboys attacking us with wooden baseball bats, because they claim we "ruined their Fable 2 experience" by "revealing a huge spoiler", we'll say this: Spoiler alert! Now, for those who are daring enough to read further, onto the goods. Lionhead Studios just hinted that a certain "Resurrection Shrine" will be included in Fable 2's upcoming Knothole Island DLC. The shrine's resurrection abilities have only one use and, for those who completed their main Fable 2 quest and made a certain decision, said resurrection should be obvious. Got it?%Gallery-37841%[Via Joystiq]

Hmm, how to convey this without spoiling a crucial element of Fable 2 ...So, you know when that event occurs? The one involving the guy who wants to do the thing? Right, so, when he pulls out the thing and performs the act, you were undoubtedly upset about the change in status of that thing. Which you had but then didn't. If your hero chose the thing (but not the other things), you would then have been left unable to find certain ... things. You know what? Just go read this thing about Fable 2's Knothole Island DLC. Beware: This golden trail leads into spoiler territory.

  • Fable 2 expansion delayed until 'late January'

Lionhead is going to need a little bit more time before it starts accepting the 800 ($10) fare to Knothole Island. According to the Fable 2 expansion's Xbox.com page, the new land won't be available next week due to "unexpected technical difficulties." It's currently scheduled to arrive in "late January."We'd be more upset about this if we didn't already have a massive backlog of games (not to mention family) to deal with over the next couple of weeks.[Via X3F]

Lionhead's first Fable 2 expansion, Knothole Island, was set for release to the Marketplace next Monday, December 22nd. Sadly, that just isn't the case anymore, because "unexpected technical difficulties" have caused its release to delay into late January. According to the official Xbox.com page for the Knothole Island DLC, we're informed (in big red text, no less) that the late January time frame will be the Fable 2 DLC's new release. Exact date, yet to be announced. This delay is further proof of the longstanding rumor that Lionhead has been developing Fable 2 under an ancient Voodoo curse.

In preparation for the Fable 2 Knothole Island DLC's release next Monday, Xbox.com has been updated with a listing of Fable 2's new achievements. All unlocked (of course) through the Knothole DLC. The three achievements tally up to an additional 100 Gamerscore and, for the most part, are targeted towards the story progression. Side note: What's up with Fable 2's use of helping or seeing "another Hero do so" to unlock achievements? A bait tactic to encourage co-op play? The Collector (25GS) - Acquire all the mystery items in The Box of Secrets shop, or see another Hero do so. The Meteorologist (50GS) - Bring all of Knothole Island's weather problems under control, or help another Hero to do so. The Bibliophile (25GS) - Find all the books detailing the history of Knothole Island, or help another Hero to do so. [Thanks, ZEBRA NINER]

  • Fable 2's 'Knothole Island' DLC coming Dec. 22

The last launch window we'd heard for Lionhead's upcoming DLC expansion for Fable 2 was "mid-December". Naturally, we anticipated that the actual release date would be around the ides of the month -- however, Lionhead recently confirmed that the "Knothole Island" expansion (and ancillary bonus pack) would be landing on the Marketplace on December 22, an entire week after the month's mid-point. Being the fanatic hair-splitters we are, we're tremendously offended by this miscalculation. Not only will we not be purchasing the expansion (which is going for 800/US$10), but we're removing Peter Molyneux as a Facebook friend post-haste.

click to embiggen Lionhead has released a handful of new images from its upcoming Fable 2 premium DLC, Knothole Island. In addition to two more shots of the snowy tundra environment, the screenshots offer a free-floating (if they're not going to stop using it, why should we?) glimpse of the new leather-clad biker outfit. It's about as macho as we expected it to be. There's been no update on the release date for the 800/US$10 DLC, which was previously announced as coming in "mid-December."%Gallery-38447%

Free-floating news, everybody! Lionhead Studios has revealed the first downloadable content pack for its dichotomous role-playing adventure, Fable 2. The "Knothole Island" pack introduces an island encased in snow, it's only hope for warm resolution resting on the shoulders of your swashbuckling hero. Or obese, mace-wielding woman. The whole Knothole pack (detailed after the break) promises new quests, "wondrous" items and "bizarre" characters for a fee of 800 -- that's ten America bucks. If you don't have any of those to spare, you might want to look into the additional (and free!) DLC pack that promises "a show of gifts, including Knight's Boots, Assassins Gloves, a special Weight Loss Potion, collectible silver book and more." You'll also need it to play co-op with anybody who downloaded the Knothole pack (though you won't be able to partake in the new quests without downloading it yourself).Expect the content to hit Xbox Live Marketplace in "mid-December."
