In the newly unveiled Might & Magic: Heroes 7, fans can vote on two of the six factions to be included. In other words, they get to have a direct say on what is certainly an important component of a turn-based strategy game. As creative director Erwan Le Breton told me at Gamescom, Ubisoft and developer Limbic Entertainment are concentrating on giving the fans, many of them longstanding, a quality entry in this venerable series. According to Le Breton, fans on the series' VIP forum were unanimous about particular key changes they wanted from Heroes 6, such as the separation of spells from other skills, the revamping of the skill system, and the move from five factions to six. Le Breton said his studio's goal with Heroes 7 was twofold: make sure the higher-ups internally at Ubisoft are happy with the game, and make sure the fans are happy, too.

Ubisoft announced Might and Magic Heroes 7 this morning, the latest installment in its long-running turn-based strategy series. Details are limited beyond a press release and a new trailer, but Might and Magic X: Legacy studio Limbic Entertainment is confirmed as the developer, as is a 2015 release window for Windows PC "exclusively." While it's the seventh entry in the series, Heroes 7 is going with a six nation (or faction) army; six different fantasy factions are fighting for power in a civil war that left a broken empire without a ruler, and everyone else fighting to pick up the pieces. On that note, Ubisoft is inviting fans to vote on two of the six factions that'll appear of in the final game, which they can do by joining the online Shadow Council. While the Shadow Council doesn't congregate secretly to plot world domination, Ubisoft says fans can use it to chat and pass comment to devs and "infuence the content of the game." After that, world domination. Check out the debut trailer below the break.

The recent resurrection of the retro-style role-playing game is exciting for many reasons, particularly an increased variety of different, new games. But trying to create new "old-school" games has tensions of its own, notably having to balance old-fashioned RPG conventions – user-generated parties, a heavy emphasis on both combat and exploration – with modern conventions like accessibility and more detailed character stats and skills. Fortunately for the state of the genre, Might and Magic 10: Legacy manages to find that balance extraordinarily well, and could serve as a model for other games dealing with similar issues. Unfortunately for Might and Magic 10, it struggles with many other things.

Limbic Entertainment's Might and Magic X: Legacy will launch on January 23, publisher Ubisoft has announced. The game will be available for PC, through both digital distribution and retail channels in Europe; in North America, it'll only be available as a download. Rather than follow the events of Might and Magic IX, Might and Magic X: Legacy is the direct sequel to Might and Magic Heroes VI, set in the world of Ashan. The turn-based first-person role-playing game has been in Early Access on Steam since August and utilizes a class-based system for its characters. Update: Ubisoft has amended its announcement to note that the game will launch on January 24 for the UK, but will still see a January 23 release for the rest of Europe.

Might and Magic is coming back. Not Heroes of Might and Magic or Clash of Heroes, but straight up vanilla Might and Magic. Three days after teasing an announcement, Ubisoft has announced Might and Magic X Legacy (we're claiming dibs on the abbreviation "Might and Magic XL" right now), developed by Limbic Entertainment. In the classic tradition, Legacy is a single-player, first-person RPG with turn-based battles. The story puts you and your party of four characters in the city of Karthal, which "on the verge of secession, is prey to competing factions vying for its control," presumably vying through the placement of monsters everywhere.Brave adventurers who dare to enter PAX East will be able to see Legacy at the event this weekend.
