Mahalo spoke with DC Universe Online Executive Producer John Blakely at Comic Con this week and videotaped the conversation, along with a whole bunch of gameplay. The gameplay includes a player running around at lightning speed, scaling walls, picking up and throwing cars, and some gunplay. In the interview, Blakely said that to watch DCUO's MySpace page for updates about the release date and other news. Specific gameplay info was thin, but he did suggest that player skill will matter just as much as your character's abilities. They all say that, though, and unfortunately it's usually only half true. Mahalo also recorded video of a panel on which famous comic book writer Stan Lee glowingly talked about storytelling in video games. We've embedded both parts of that video beyond the jump.

Here at TUAW HQ we find ourselves watching Mahalo Daily almost everyday. Mahalo has this new thing they do with conferences and special broadcasts where they trim down the video to 60 seconds. So for the folks that don't wish to sit through the almost 2 hour WWDC keynote can just watch a 60 second clip that shows the main points of the keynote. Thanks, Conrad!

This Mahalo Daily-wannabe Lindsay Hamel's video entry made me laugh even though it seemed very similar to this old Emily Posts post about dating Apple Developers. "This is my boyfriend Kyle. He's an Apple Coder. Notice how he's facing his code and not facing me." If you're dating an Apple geek, get used to the way his back looks. The ring of truth. As for those tees? I mostly give away my Xcode t-shirts to my kids and yes they make excellent sleepware. [Via Mactropolis]

At the Independent Games Festival Awards, Fez took the award for excellence in art. Now, here's an opportunity to hear the developers chat anxiously about their game, prior to the awards show. Mahalo Daily and Veronica Belmont spoke to members of the art collective Kokoromi about their innovative platformer. Check out the video above for development details, and Kokoromi's explanation of why Fez pulls off 2D/3D better than Super Paper Mario.

  • The Joystiq Reader Meetup: Santa Monica, CA E307 edition

After rushing out of our own party at 9pm to catch planes to wherever it is we're from – and subsequently napping for twenty-four straight hours – we're finally ready to share pics from the first evar Joystiq Reader Meetup in Santa Monica, CA (sponsored by Mahalo.com). First, in a word: unmitigatedsuccess. Yes, we know that's two words, but we really wanted that adjective in there. Over 160 of you showed up with two days notice, ready to hang with your fellow 'stiqers, play some Guitar Hero II and Wii Sports, win swag (some good, some ... not so good), and remind everyone at Joystiq why we do what we do (whatever that is). Seriously, we were bowled over (and not in a Wii Sports kinda way). We'd really like to thank Mahalo (of course) for loaning us their awesome space, helping arrange the entire shindig, and making sure you guys didn't go hungry or thirsty. We'd also like to thank Mojo for providing energy drinks, Activision (hey, Frankie!) for bringing Guitar Hero II and an awesome poster signed by Slash, and Nyko for a ton of swag that wasn't totally disposable -- they gave us real products to give away! Most of all, we'd like to thank every single person that came. We met readers whose names we'd only read; we met readers who avoid the comments at all costs ("Comment name? Oh no, I don't go in there."); we met readers who are totally famous; we met readers whose work we ourselves read; and we met readers who actually make some of the games that we play. It was, to be sure, a humbling experience. It was also gobs of fun.Even if you avoid the comments, make an exception to say hi on this post. And if you've got any really good pics, you can get them to us by sending a note here and we'll assemble them all in a gallery. Again, thanks. And let's not wait another three years to do this again, k?%Gallery-4883%

  • Widget Watch: Mahalo

Today's widget is a simple one that lets you search Mahalo from your Dashboard. Mahalo, in case you don't know, is the new 'human powered search engine' from Weblogs, Inc co-founder Jason Calacanis (there is also another familiar TUAW face involved with Mahalo). Think of it as Google and Wikipedia's love child. A team of guides hand creates search result (they have already created 4000 out of the top 10,000 searches by hand) to give context to your search. The Mahalo search results also include results from Google, for all you traditionalists about there.Take a look at the Mahalo widget from Coding Robots and check out a few search results from Mahalo (may I suggest Steve Jobs and the iPhone?).
