Between tournament seasons is a good time to introduce changes to League of Legends, and Riot devs are adding plenty to the MOBA during preseason three. To give players a sneak peek of what to expect, Joshua "Jatt" Leesman and Ryan 'Morello" Scott host an eleven-minute video outlining various changes coming to items, masteries, and the jungle. Items received quite the overhaul in this patch. Not only were new items like the Muramana added, but others were removed (namely the Heart of Gold). Some items, such as The Black Cleaver, were reworked. The devs also discussed balancing the game to give support roles more gold and lessen their ward burden as well as make various jungle strategies more viable. Masteries have also been moved around, and the utility tree has been spiced up. Check out all the details in the video after the break.

  • The Summoner's Guidebook: Is League of Legends' grind too much for a competitive game?

League of Legends has had one of the most meteoric ascensions of any current e-sport. From the first tournaments of season one to tomorrow's MLG Summer Arena, LoL has made a bigger splash in the e-sports community than any title launched since StarCraft II. However, the long grind to get to summoner level 30 poses a difficult barrier of entry for players looking to someday join the pros. It isn't necessary to grind levels to unlock +3 infantry weapons in StarCraft, so gating runes and masteries behind a grind seems a bit ridiculous. I've thought that the forced grind was excessive since I started playing LoL. I'm not opposed to having a grind at all, but I've always thought it was silly that levels and runes can't be purchased with real money. Are levels and grinds bad for a competitive game like League of Legends, or does the grind actually improve the quality of player skill at the higher levels?

Welcome to Lichborne, your weekly source for news, guides, tips and opinions on the death knight class. With the latest build having just hit the Cataclysm beta test servers, this seems like a pretty good time to take a quick inventory of the changes, maybe say a few things about the direction that the class is heading thus far in beta. I can tell you right now that some of the latest changes are either confusing or just plain silly, and while some things are looking cool enough, we really are long overdue for another major change patch. However, before we get too hardcore into that discussion, let's look at the latest changes.
