  • Nintendo phasing out white, silver DS Lites in UK

The UK will gain two new DS options in April, but two current options are on the way out. Nintendo has "ceased" production of the Polar White and Metallic Silver models, which have been available since launch and October 2007, respectively. We would expect those more "neutral" colors of DS to be the most popular, but apparently UK consumers like their DS Lites to say "Hey everybody, this guy's got a DS!""Nintendo can confirm that going forward, we will be focussing our supply of the DS Lite range on the range of exciting colours that have proved most popular since launch: Black, Pink, Red, Green and Turquoise," a Nintendo UK representative told CVG. The company also said that it would increase the number of DS Lite bundles.

We've seen the Nintendo DS Lite dressed up in an entire rainbow of questionable colors, but basic silver has only been out in Europe and Japan until now -- we'll be getting this classy number stateside on September 7th. Anyone going to top off their collections?[Via Joystiq]

Even though evidence for its arrival had become overwhelming, Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Metallic Silver DS Lite will become a dazzling, shiny reality in the U.S. on September 7th.Not including limited editions, this will become the seventh color in the North American DS rainbow, though it has been available in Europe, Japan, and South Korea for around a year; and very nice it is too, in this European blogger's opinion. Any of you lovely people got an eye on this?[Via press release]

A scant few days before E3, we saw signs that the Metallic Silver Lite, long since available in Japan and Europe, would be available in North America next month, but since then, we haven't seen so much as a scrap on the subject. Thanks to the latest Best Buy sales sheets, savvy gamers were able to suss out that the snappy new (to us) shade will be sold beginning with the seventh of September. Will you step into the silver spotlight, or will you practice a smidge of sensible self-restraint and stroll on by?

  • Rumor: USA to be awarded Silver

The Gloss Silver DS Lite has been shining in Europe and Japan for some time now, but it hasn't made an appearance in North America as of yet. Well, that's not entirely true: half of the Metallic Silver DS Lite makes up the Guitar Hero: On Tour special edition system. But we never got the back part.An unspecified "source" has suggested to GoNintendo's RawMeatCowboy that this tragic omission will be corrected this September, with the release of an all-silver DS. That sounds perfectly plausible to us, especially since its partner in shininess, the Metallic Rose, has been released. It's nice to have such a low-impact rumor so close to E3. We may get a new color, and that would be nice; if not, that's okay too! It's certainly a lot tamer than all those other rumors we've been dealing with.

Your DS just got less cool. Sorry! We're suffering from the effects as well. What has de-awesomogrified the world's supply of DS Lites? Club Nintendo. From July 1 to August 31, Nintendo of Japan will give away 1,000 Premium Silver, 1,000 Premium Platinum, and 1,000 Premium Rose DS Lites to Club Nintendo members who register two new games in that period, with winners determined by random selection. We don't even have the regular silver DS Lite, and Japan gets a super shiny version for free. Wiping off fingerprints every time you look at the thing is really the only downside.Could this mean that Nintendo won't be announcing new hardware at E3 (since they'll be giving away Lites in that period)? We think it may mean just the opposite: Nintendo is clearing out some of their existing DS Lites by throwing shiny parts on the outside and making prizes out of them.

Before you guys in the U.S. (like us) get too excited, by "here", the ad means "the U.K." Nintendo sent out these e-mail advertisements for the new, shiny Metallic Silver DS Lite, reminding European shiny-stuff fans that their DS has arrived. "Effortlessly stylish," the ad copy reads, "the DS Lite Silver is just one more good reason to join the 14 million other people across Europe who have already got their hands on a Nintendo DS."Depending on your geographical location, your current DS Lite ownership status, and your color preferences, this email could be a welcome blip in your inbox. But we have to wonder-- who that isn't already enough of a Nintendo fan to possess a DS would be on their mailing list? The ad copy sounds like it's aimed at new DS gamers and not upgraders. Check after the break for the whole ad image.
