(In order to avoid confusion created by the comments below, we would like to note that there were two fan-made videos of the event, and the one we chose to feature has music created by Orb Gettarr and Spiraling Cycling.)If you've never been to a popular Second Life event, you wouldn't have experienced the pain of a packed sim. The number of avatars in a single sim usually gets to around 70 or 80 before people start crying of lag, ruths, and missing images. However, those wacky Metaversatility kids took to Orange Island in an attempt to set a record for most avatars in a single snapshot. Jade Lily was shooting for 100 -- and it wasn't easy. As documented by Daneel Ariantho and Natty Foggarty in pictures, and Osprey Therian in this video, people wouldn't rez properly, floated away, and lost connection. After many minutes, they were able to reach their goal, but it took about two hours without SL before this blogger's computer felt right again! If you have machinima or movie suggestions from any MMO, please send them to machinima AT massively DOT com, along with any information you might have about them. Please note that due to the high volume of Second Life submissions, we would prefer submissions from other platforms.

You may previously know him as Chadrick Linden, Governance Team Lead at Linden Lab, or from earlier days as Adam Linden, before a lot of staff got a round of renaming. These days, he's Chadrick Baker of metaverse developer, Metaversatility, and now the newest member of the advisory board to the Association of Virtual Worlds.

We've seen a lot of interesting things at the Worlds in Motion Summit which took place at GDC earlier this week, we found this post-mortum of Scion's virtual campaign in There.com fascinating. While we tune out commercials and skim over print advertisements as much as anyone, but well thought-out interactive advertisements in virtual worlds still feel novel and interesting. (Well, okay, some of them aren't.) So what made Scion's campaign stand out? Read on for an analysis.%Gallery-16584%

Orange and metaverse developers Metaversatility started staging their Geekend event in Second Life today. Unfortunately, there have apparently been some difficulties, caused by Orange itself. Through the day we've been getting reports from European users of the Orange Internet services that they have been unable to establish or maintain connections to Second Life, and that traffic destined for those systems appears to be being throttled or discarded.

As reported here and here, Orange Island is committed to bringing Second Life residents great events and content, centered around the creativity of its users, and the Art Week event currently taking place is no exception. On the roster for Thursday and Friday are RacerX Gullwing's fireworks display, and musician Grace McDunnough with something intriguingly named 'musimmersion'.I heartily applaud the vigor with which the Orange team has entered SL, and the continued excellence of its events. This is the sort of thing we like to show off to naysayers of the platform. It's all about building community, guys. The wacky avatars, the wild buildings, the controversial animations, those are all merely window dressing. It's the people that makes SL unique. Check it all out here.[Thanks, Adri!]

Don't let the flippancy of my title fool you; this is a serious request. It's a well-known MMO-ism that a great many female avatars are driven by males. Why? The reasons are varied, but the most often-heard one is 'I'd rather look at a hot chick than a dude'. Well, if you've ever wondered if the reverse is true as well, now's your chance to find out!Metaverse development company (or 'MDC' for short, a term that refers to a real life company whose focus is virtual worlds) Metaversatility is asking real life females who play as males in Second Life to share their experiences and reasons for the purpose of a public discussion on identity and cross-gender avatars. If interested, please contact Haver Cole ( haver@metaversatility.com) or Adri Saarinen (adri@metaversatility.com). I'm more than a little curious about this myself; can't wait to see how this develops!
