Our friends over at Mmorpg.com have revealed an exclusive new video for CoX Issue 12: Midnight Hour! The video tells the story of the Midnight Squad, the secret cabal of magicians and scholars whose home - the Midnighter Club - we recently visited here at Massively. The Midnighters are only now building their numbers back up again, after the invading Rikti dealt them heavy losses. The video's narrator, Montague Castanella, is the contact who gives out the Midnighter mission arc to heroes, ultimately giving them access to the Club. Percy Winkley, besides being a specialist in abductions from the receiving end, is also well versed in the various origins of power and will help heroes gain a greater understanding of theirs. The other Midnighter mentioned in the video, Ashley McKnight, will be found at the Cap Au Diable University over in the Rogue Isles. She serves as a villain contact, also giving eventual access to the club. As for the shadowy gentleman at the end, he can be found in Sharkhead Isle and goes by the name of Darrin Wade. His missions are strictly villain-only, and have one of the best (and most truly villainous) finales of any arc to date.Watch the video here! Face down the forces of evil! Give good a quick jab to the jaw! Massively has all the CoX Issue 12 news you can handle. Make sure to check it out!

Senior Designer Joe Morrissey, otherwise known as "Hero 1", has a lot of enthusiasm for the upcoming Issue 12 patch for City of Heroes. Not because of technology, though there are some great additions on the way. Not because of the new epic archetypes, though those are completely awesome. No, Joe is really excited because the City of Heroes story is going places it's never gone before. The designer/writer for NCsoft's superhero title sent us over a great developer diary to explain some of those places.Following up on the Rikti invasion highlighted by Issue 10, the magical group known as the Midnight Squad is stepping out the shadows. The aliens, always a pain for good-hearted earthfolk, struck the magical community hard and fast. The aliens may have advanced tech but, as Morrissey points out, they tipped their hand a bit. Now the powerful time-traveling boffins of the Squad are recruiting, and your character is very much on their list.To cap things, off, the designer runs down a few of the plot arcs we can expect in the next issue, as well as touching more on the fascinating plot thread feature coming to contacts. Read on below the cut for the entire discussion.%Gallery-18214%

The folks at NCsoft, as their first major act stewarding City of Heroes/City of Villains, have dropped news of a HUGE new patch to the game. Issue 12: Midnight Hour will introduce a swath of brand new content to the game, along with an enormous array of new features: A brand new faction called the Midnight Squad, a group of mystics and scholars. Missions from levels 10-20 to support the new organization. Time Travel missions, from level 35-50, tying into the earlier Midnight Squad content. As you may have guessed from the above image, you'll be tangling with the best that the Roman Empire has to offer. New Roman-themed costumes will be unlocked as a result of your time-traveling escapades! Villains will have the chance to create epic archetype characters after they make it to max level, much like the heroes have the archetypes the Warshade and the Peacebringer. The villain epics will be called Wolf Spiders and Blood Widows. Both heroes and villains will be getting more powers added to their archetypes! It doesn't sound like these will be all-new powers, but that archetypes will have some new options from already existing powersets. Tons of additional goodies like a revamp to the Hollows zone, a "Level Up Bonus" and displayable stats! Additional information is available in CoX Lead Designer Matt Miller's letter to the community. There he outlines some things that have been going on behind the scenes since the NCsoft acquisition, as well as his hopes for the outcome of Issue 12. This is fantastic stuff, and to me seems like a thrown gauntlet now that Marvel is out of the picture. With DC still quite a ways away, City of Heroes is going to be the only superhero game on the block for some time. Are great updates like this enough to get you back into the game?%Gallery-18214%
